OK that works redirecting to a .com site.

So how EXACTLY did you do that ?

I'm sure forum members would love to know !

OK I've worked it out how http://sysoon.tel is set to redirect to http://www.sysoon.com - wasn't too difficult really !

Check out https://www.easywhois.com/?domain=sysoon.tel and look at the nameserver addresses.

The registrar NETWORKING4ALL B.V. has not implemented the check that Telnic requires its registrars to do i.e. ensure that the nameservers addresses cannot be altered from those specified by Telnic.

So NETWORKING4ALL B.V. is allowing it's own nameservers to be used instead of the mandatory Telnic ones - so a .tel domain can be set to go anywhere !

Not sure how long NETWORKING4ALL B.V will be allowed to get away with this breach of the terms and conditions of being a Telnic .tel registrar ?

If they continue to offer this flexibility - and Telnic doesn't stop them - then I would expect many of the other 122 Telnic Registrars will want to do the same - maybe this could be the saviour of the .tel project ?

I wonder how many .tels would be registered in a year's time if this use of non-Telnic nameservers was generally allowed - effectively making a .tel as flexible as any other extension -  perhaps as an option to "DATA IN THE DNS" - WHICH NO SOFTWARE DEVELOPER IN 4+ YEARS HAS ACTUALLY DECIDED TO EXPLOIT !

Instruction to build fully developed websites with a .tel:

1.) Register a new .tel at or transfer your old .tel to Networking4All (€ 9.50) or OVH (€ 8.29).

2.) Change the name server to the default server of your chosen registrar.

3.) Redirect your .tel to any other website.

You can redirect your ShortDomainName.tel to your LongDomainName.com or to MyFreeWebsiteBuilder.com (whatever you prefer).

    You can use these tools:

    http://www.domainforum.online/t94-the-best-online-website-builders-for-free

Then you don't have any other costs except the .tel registration fees.

And a mobile website is included at many services, too!

The Registrar numbers table above (May 2012) gives the following info:

    Networking4all B.V. - 16 .tel domains

OVH Sarl  - 8547 .tel domains

So whilst Telnic may feel they can afford to risk upsetting Networking4all B.V. with its 16 .tels by demanding changes be made to their registration/renewal system, I'm not so sure about OVH Sari with its 8547 .tels !

So I would also be interested if there is any proof of .tels registered at OVH Sarl successfully using non-Telnic nameservers ?

    Thanks in anticipation.

But the most redirected .tel domains are registered at Networking4All.

    Having checked out https://www.easywhois.com/?domain=monetique.tel
it seems as if 2 Registrars (apart from Telnames & China) are currently able to use their own nameservers - and so treat .tel as an ordinary extension !

So come on Telnic, THINK BIG, and consider how many .tels would be registered in the next year if you allowed ALL REGISTRARS to offer this facility ?

Those who wanted to stick to the current .tel approach would of course be allowed to do so, but you can't get away from the fact that:

AFTER 4+ YEARS NO ORGANISATION HAS SPENT THEIR TIME AND MONEY DEVELOPING A COMMERCIAL PRODUCT THAT SUCCESSFULLY EXPLOITS .TEL's UNIQUE "DATA IN THE DNS" CONCEPT !

    http://MikeSeaton.tel

PS. I presume there is nothing in the Telnic/ICANN agreement that prevents .tel being offered as a "normal" extension in addition to its current usage ?

HOPEFULLY this will NEVER EVER happen!!! The SECRET POTENTIAL the masses did not realized so far lies in the uniqueness of .tel domains. Since we will get now hundreds of new extensions in the next years, this will be crucial for a future success of .tel

Although there is a lot of frustration with .tel I am still keeping my trust in the .tel success, especially in the uniqueness of .tels...
    Who needs another ordinary extension??

    @cubitel

Whilst I have always been an advocate of .tel's uniqueness with it's "Data in the DNS" concept you cannot ignore the facts that over 4+ years since .tel's launch:

    - "JOE PUBLIC" HAS NOT COME ACROSS .TEL IN  THEIR DAILY LIVES !

    - "DATA IN THE DNS" HAS BEEN OF INTEREST TO ZERO ORGANISATIONS - NONE HAVE SUCCESSFULLY DEVELOPED A PRODUCT THAT USES IT !

These are the facts - as unpalatable as they may be to all of us - so what exactly is going to change to alter things, given that the last of Telnic's $35,000,000 investment will be used up in the not too distant future ?

    http://MikeSeaton.tel

PS. My post never suggested doing away with .tel's "Data in the DNS" concept - just making it optional - and let the marketplace decide !

    Think about this:
A website xyz.tel works always on mobile devices. A xyz.com does not
As soon as users get more familiar with this "new" .tel they build a certain "mobile trust" in this extension. If a redirection would be allowed in the future this important advantage and valuable trust could be totally destroyed since not all redirections will point to mobile optimized websites...

In the Acceptable Use Policy of telnic you can find under section 4.4:

"In the event the Domain Name Holder or Registrar changes the Address Record, DNAME Record or CNAME Record values assigned to any registered Domain Name, the Sponsoring Organisation and/or the Registry is entitled to take such immediate action as it or they deem necessary, including but not limited to revocation of the Domain Name held by Domain Name Holder or revocation of the Registrar’s accreditation with the Sponsoring Organisation. I am not surprised at such a clause being present somewhere in Telnic's Terms and Conditions - something TelFan and NETWORKING4ALL B.V. need to consider !

Since Telnic has an ICANN agreement to prevent the adjustment of the CNAME for a .tel, Telnic has the following options:

    • Renegotiation with ICANN to allow redirects
    • Integration of parts from other domains (.com, etc.) in a specified area
    • Programming a control panel that allows timely design and integration of content into a .tel, so .tel could survive in times of a modern internet

After this important information from "cubitel" I don't think anything will happen soon:
    http://www.teltalk.org/t1370p16-redirected-tel-domains#8305

    Two possibilities are imaginable:
    • The .tel operator will understand that the currently available templates need to be improved and will create a CMS for .tel (probably the best option for all participants).
    • The .tel operator will renegotiate with ICANN and will allow redirects.
Surely we have to wait several years until then.

section 4.4 does not include NS records, so if we change NSes we do not change A and other records on telnic name servers - we create new ones on our or registrar name servers

    ILY, technically you're right!
But the background is clear that Telnic wants to prevent redirects.
Telnic would intervene and revoke them afterwards.
