Everyone and everything will have an identity We have yet to unlock the real power of the .tel domain. Part of my 'keeping the faith' has been a belief that .tel will play a big part in The Internet of Things - or more colourfully described this AM by Gigacom as the "new Big Bang: The IoT's identity onslaught" - in an article well worth reading. For anyone not familiar with the Internet of Things and how .tel can be at the heart of this, it is also worth reading a Telnic post about this from four years ago. |

My fridge is worried about these predictions of the future - fearful it will lose it's privacy, and thinks that an option in a .tel to search only defined sites is a good idea. Then it can continue it's ménage à trois with the washing machine and the dishwasher, without the freezer finding out. |

Indeed, probably ! Although basic business models and supported daily life services have still to be set up and advocated to Joe Public (while also embedding .TEL ) In real life, possibly the today trend for Off The Shelves new building blocks based on ARDUINO and RASPBERRY boards , and Service Providers or Service Enablers related to them in markets like Home Automation, Connected Car or Connected Motorcycle , both in B2B , B2C & DIY environment could participate to introduce "First reference" of use of dot TEL in such project while dot TELs could then be deployed through RadioShacks or Velleman / CONRAD or through Automation HW & SW components distributors for B2B2. Already , branding Bluetooth Wireless names ( SSIDs) of any mobile device of yours with a dot TEL might build practical awareness about .TEL to serve as a Wireless Name easy "friend or foe" public recognition flag, before triggering whatever further connectivity exploration process with private tokenisation hosted in the secret zone of TELfriends (valid in Bluetooth as well as in WiFi connectivity ). Anyone aware of some first pilot scale or commercial scale usecase can let www.SSIDs.TEL or www.INTERNETofTHINGS.TEL be aware that this is right time ot promote .TEL usage for IoT by supporting large scale applications and reference . |
The FT is reporting this morning about Apple's plans for the internet of things and how its developer conference on Monday will focus on how mobile devices might control intelligent home gadgets such as termostats or locks. However, it's one of the subsequent comments that drew my eye. The poster raises the question of privacy. (it makes one long for the anonymity of a pay phone..) Is this an opportunity for .tel to get on board this emerging market with its encryption features? Comment "the acceptance of "smart devices" and any use of the Internet for the transmission of personal data from these devices is put at risk by big data and even worse big gov't and their insatiable appetite to know everything about us. do you really want GOOGLE crawling the barcodes in your refrigerator and selling that info to food companies. or insurance companies hacking data from implanted health monitors to get the raw data only your doctor should see. the loss of privacy on-line will kill the goose that laid the golden WWW. it makes one long for the anonymity of a pay phone." |

1 day all of us will be rich the day that we can dial cinema.tel and answer the phone a cinema company, or you dial to ipad.apple.tel and answer in the ipdad office at apple, etc, etc Just think for 1 moment a real phone directory using .tel just click you.tel and your phone ring. http://movie.tel http://4g.tel |
@Tony_Mayo IMHO if there are good application, these would ease people with big data threats. if people do not see any benefits but feel their data are used for other purpose, even Joe public will start be concerned by big data threats. So the important step is to have some example on the field in daily life for IoT, all the better if using dot TEL to pass public and private information between "things" candidate to IoT.... and presumably most likely between some moving device (a smartphone) and some fixed connected objects, or between some smarpthone and local network of beacons (shopping malls etc) , or between a connected car and.... gaz station associated to your loyalty plan , etc . Also, promoting TEL in general and some of your own TELs BY BRANDING your own Bluetooth SSID on your smartphone , your home wifi server, or your companion Watch , etc with this TEL ..is an easy start . www.SSIDs.TEL Want a proof ? During an annoying convention or conference,, at airport or waiting for your train , just scan regularly Bluetooth IDs around you , you will see stupid labels for SSIds, while other will see your nice Bluetooth name under dot tel, and possibly will attempt to mobile browse to it to know more .. @supercyberheroes why not starting doing it NOW using ... power of voice search ? Applied to TELs, and TELs offering with Embedded click-to-call phone numbers... SEE new thread started on the forum about voice search & TELs |
I can suggest this to one of my restaurant clients if they have public WIFI. Mark |
