...just noticed this new switch setting (default = "Off") in the My Account / Account Administration part of the Telnames Control Panel.

Anyone know what changing the setting to "On" will do - there doesn't appear to be any explanation about its effect ?

    3rd Party Marketing

By indicating that you wish to receive marketing from third parties, you are consenting to our providing your contact details (including phone number and email address if provided by you) to carefully selected third parties who may contact you about their products and services. You should note that this may include making telemarketing calls to you and sending you SMS.

Please note that we do not control the privacy practices of these third parties and we encourage you to review the privacy policies of these third parties if you want to understand how they use your contact details. If at any point you wish to change your marketing preferences and opt-out of receiving marketing from third parties, you can do so by accessing the Control Panel and changing your preferences. We will use reasonable endeavours to communicate any changes in your preferences to third parties. However, you should also contact the third party to notify them that you wish to opt-out of receiving their marketing.

Please read our Privacy Policy if you have any questions about the way we use your personal details.

@Telnamer - thanks - where did you get this from ?

BUT that's NOT the way .tel is supposed to be with the LIST ONCE PUBLISH EVERYWHERE concept !

The above is simply a fairly standard business practice of asking if your details can be forwarded onto "carefully selected third parties" who will then phone or text you.

What selecting this option should do is CREATE AN AUTOMATIC LINK so that all data on your .tel which maps onto the 3rd party's directory etc. is setup/updated every time you make an entry into your .tel - no phone calls, no texts, just seamless publishing of your .tel data by 3rd parties.

As it stands, the Telnames 3rd party option seems to offer nothing more than that already offered by millions of organisations worldwide who hold customer data that they seek permission to sell on !

@Telnamer - OK got it thanks - I didn't realise this non-underlined text was a clickable link until I put the cursor over it.
