I Made it into DMOZ I didn't make it into being featured by Telnic, but I submitted it to DMOZ a while ago and finally got added ¬.¬ I'm pretty happy as you can imagine :p http://www.dmoz.org/Society/People/F...ersonal_Pages/ http://www.dmoz.org/search?q=furrie.tel http://furrie.tel So in conclusion I win teh Internets! as they say..... & now I have more reason to pay this up for 10 years, which is max at DM. Category /Society/People/Furry/Personal_Pages/ which is what Telnic originally developed them for personal contact profiles. Now I think I meet most of the requirements to be featured by Telnic, and have submitted to be featured & of course rejected which I'm not as bothered about now as I'm in DMOZ |

What it gives if somebody is added to DMOZ? |
A box of Chocolates Plus a bunch of other stuff that will help with your ranking, it's also a little prestigious as not everyone will be accepted, I'm sure someone else on the forum will explain in more technical terms, in a mean time I hope Bunjie enjoys his chocolates. |

Congrats Bunjie, quite an achievment. However, not sure of relevance of dmoz today, seems to me there are more bad things than good written about them today - but still considered a good link to have, can't wait for my free box of chocolates cees.:) |
Thanks all, I think http://blekko.com is the evolution (3 years in the making) of DMOZ, and we'll likely see the same effect that DMOZ used to have on webmasters but towards individuals adding their website to certain category's. Of course the most important ones being listed under http://blekko.com/user/blekko Still if DMOZ was to die tomorrow because of http://blekko.com or other such things, it's always good to be the last one accepted if even for a short while. But I'm sure more are still being added DMOZ will live on. Being in an obscure category likely worked for me as did having Find The Furry Fandom inSL™. link at the top of sub domain which looks kinda the same when clicked on as my profile does, so it probably made the editor decide it was interesting enough to be added. And like you said some see it as some kinda prize, I'm guessing the same will happen with http://blekko.com/user/blekko perhaps this is why they evolved DMOZ into a search engine that you categorize stuff yourself, because power was in the hands of a few? I have noticed sites talking about corrupt editors and how to buy them off, but I don't believe that I know people online always have beefs with others. So yea Blekko said they didn't want to do all the tagging so I guess that's due to the fact they made DMOZ I believe, and have watched it devolve into some prize to fight over with editors. |

Mike, this is about the best article I've seen, with quote from Google's Matt Cutts. http://www.webpronews.com/topnews/20...lace-in-search There's a lot of negative dmoz articles, which do seem to say dmoz is corrupt and no longer used by search engines, but a link from dmoz still has lots of juice. Googles algorithm changes all the time as we know, but all things being equal a link is a link, some links are more equal than others. Have you ever used dmoz to find a web site other than your own, it's a bit outdated, a lot of the most popular sites aren't listed, and a lot of the listed sites, no longer exist, add to that the aol search it uses and you'll see why it's no longer considered vital in search engine optimisation. |
