The appearance has been improved, especially by using template 8. But a lot of expected features haven’t been delivered, e. g. the pictures for template 8 are not included and contact types are not always separated (only one subcategory: "Social & Messaging").

Whatever the reason may be for no newsletter or delivery of all features, I think we can agree that the Telnic team has been hard at work getting the Designs delivered. The development lifecycle for an effort like this in addition to their current workload had to be grueling.
Based on work with the Telnames platform, I do not think that it will be long before we see additional features added.
We have to keep in mind that Telnic is now in a Post Implementation phase that includes defect analysis for a diversity of Continents, Countries, Languages and Technical Platforms (mobile, PC, Mac, Tablets, etc).
A stabilized platform beats a buggy and problematic feature rich solution any day. We all have to deliver solutions to our customers whether we are developers or investors.
The question now is: What are we going to do with what we have? At what point do we all start working together on collaborative solutions that make this engine run.

Surely this is the right attitude, since we can accomplish the success only together with Telnic.
I only hope Telnic will include the .tel community more in the future.

Phew! This news we had to wait for more than a year! We needed this urgently!
And even the templates don't include all wished details; finally it will give Telnic's customers the possibility to arrange an advanced and proper business card now.

Today is a great day:
- Finally we know Telnic will proceed supporting the old control panel.
- Even Telnic reduced the communication a lot, now we know they are still working hard.
- Most importantly .tel owners have the possibility to create their own style of website to set a contrast for their own business now. Not all .tel websites will look the same anymore!

The large image on template 8 uses the same image record as the other images at the top of the templates, just with different dimensions (468x351).

When considering this is the third tranche of templates (after 2009 and 2010), the next tranche probably will bring us advanced features, so we are not restricted to contact data only anymore.
After we finally can add text, pictures and videos flexible sorted and without the current strict limitations, .tel could provide an adequate website for most people.
Perhaps in 2 or 3 years .tel will convert into a competitive product! We just need a little bit of more flexibility!

Unfortunately the development speed during the last 3 years was too slow to catch up with market demands.
Have you ever had direct contact to Telnic to provide them development support to tweak just a few things with little effort, but huge benefit?
I'm convinced if Telnic would let you in (even only for a few days), it could give .tel a real push forward.

Even Telnic is not willing to let external developers help them - what they would do free of charge; please at least take advice from Mark! It would pay off for sure!

Whilst I welcome the 3 new Telnic templates released today, and I know many are currently playing around with them ( I may also do so myself), I think the point is being lost from a business perspective.
If you are selling to "Joe Public" you need to include EVERYTHING needed to create the end result IN THE PRODUCT HE PURCHASES.
"Joe Public", in his millions hopefully, has no interest in searching around (he may not be a member of a .tel forum) for 3rd party tools to achieve the desired effect - it's all right for the techies on this forum but not for him.
So you need an easy way (i.e. via a Control Panel) to input Video, Images and ideally Background Image as well.
There is a .Tel product that does all this NOW - available from http://www.Telnames.com - the 8 Telnic templates unfortunately do not (it looks like they never will) and therefore will have limited appeal to the mass public.
So if I was a newbie getting involved with .Tel for the first time I would ignore the Telnic templates and focus on the offering from Telnames as shown by http://YourBusiness.tel
The general public are not interested in fiddling - they just want an easy-to-use Control Panel that allows them to input all the Text, Video and Images they need quickly and easily.
Which probably explains why all the current .Tel marketing is for the Telnames template, not the Telnic ones !

Examples:

Because of the many delays during this progress they couldn't add additional or reasonable tools which weren’t conceptualized.
So unfortunately we have to choose the template we like the most and pass other options.

They'll probably roll out tweaks and updates later, I like Template 7: http://aled.tel but I don't like the url at the top left of the top bar it seems out of place, shouldn't it be like the other templates under the header text?

Yes Jonathan, template 7 is the best by far!
Template 7 (and 6) comes close to its draft, too!
After the contest I thought template 8 would be better, but after seeing it live I've changed my opinion:

- Template 8 can't fold the sections as intended.
- Template 8 can't compress related content as intended.
- Template 8 doesn't use new icons as intended.
- Template 8 doesn't separate folders and contacts as intended.
- Template 8 doesn't allow flexible sorting of text as intended.
So unfortunately it doesn't look as great as planned:

hi i cant work out these new templates at all how do you add video and big picture they look pritty much the same thing its the control panel they should spend time on no newbie going to spend any time on that load rubbish.

BTW Telnic announced in April 2011 (!) the possibility to upload pictures, videos and ads directly, but nobody knows when it will be realized:
