Location based services come to .tel

Problem: Navigating a large tel directory to the folder that contains contact information relevant to your location is cumbersome! Most end users would give up long before they actually get to the folder that interests them.

Solution: Our new tool deployed as an image ad or link on your tel domain, detects the location of the user and when clicked jumps the user direct to the relevant folder within your tel directory.

Try our beta location based tel site now!!!

Just click the image ad or the text links to jump to a folder based on your location. For locations that do not match any subfolders, the tool offers the opportunity to add custom geo directories or redirect to a tel specific search engine!

Problem: I want to give my user relevant and local information, advertising and coupons!
Solution: Our tool allows you to deliver image ads relevant to the users CURRENT location.

The tool requires no development experience to use or configure. Simply add an image ad or link on your tel pointing to our URL. If anyone is interested in trying this on their own tel, please PM or email me for more information.

We will be shortly rolling out:
    1. Smarter cross linking of business directories. If a user has made their way to a directory that doesn't serve thier need, rather then lose the traffic we will be build a network of global geo directories and are reaching out to Geo or Directory based tel owners with populated tels based on Geographic regions to contact us.
    2. Visual maps showing where your users accessed your site and whether from a mobile device or computer and whether they followed the jump to links
    3. Nearby matching to jump a user to a folder for a location 'near' them

Look forward to feedback from the community....

    Enjoy!

Impressive. My location came in as Aurora Illinois as opposed to Aurora Ontario. However, neat idea. Will explore.

    Excellent tool. I'm interested.

Also I'm up for being part of the directory projects.

    Waikiki.tel, Hanoi.tel, Hochiminh.tel, and Lisbon.tel could be part of the project/alliance.

Anyone selling Geo names please contact me.

    Regards-

Dottel.net, I also have Ratings.tel similar to rated.tel, we may be able to work on this as well.

Looks interesting, my location came in correct, some good stuff happening amongst a number of forum members.

Perfect - that's exactly the kind of tel's we're looking to partner with.
Goal is to get this map covered with populated dottel's all linked via the location tool to drive traffic to one another depending on the location of the user

    Imagine that....

Will PM you regarding how to get started... anyone else interested, please PM, post here or email me![/size]

    dottel.net, we just added Bosnia.tel, Herzegovina.tel, and Danang.tel...

Bosnia has a population of 4million, and Danang rounds out our holdings in Vietnam- Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh, and Da Nang the 3 largest cities.

Đà Nẵng is one of five independent (province-level) municipalities of Vietnam. It is classified as an industrial zone and has port facilities to handle container traffic. Some 4,900 factories/production facilities and a number of light industries are located in the city. In 1997, Đà Nẵng exported around US$55 million worth of goods.[citation needed] Đà Nẵng accounts for a good portion of Vietnam's agricultural food production, including rice, tea, dried fish and fish sauce (nước mắm). Other goods exported include various types of seafood, furniture, household goods, and clothing. (source: wikipedia)

pm sent - apologies for the delay[/size]

    dottel.net04-10-2011 04:48 PM

the tool and instructions on how to add are now posted here: http://nearherenow.com

just finishing up the visual representation of who visited from where and whether they followed the location tool jumps for each domain on the network. Stay tuned....

    dottel.net04-11-2011 10:06 AM

should have made it perhaps clearer - but you need to replace with your actual domain i.e. rated.tel in the URL's

    dottel.net04-12-2011 05:17 PM

tool updated to now attempt more fuzzy matching on the folder names against your location.

common question being asked: how do I add my tel to the location tool?

you simply need to JUST ADD the image ad pointing to the location tool (see http://nearherenow.com for instructions).

Once added you will see your tel show up in our various maps as traffic begins to trickle in....

if you have a google account you can easily create such static maps - there is a google maps option in your account. let me know if you need further help.

problem with static maps is they paginate at over 200 markers (only show 200 markers on the map at one time).

    dottel.net07-04-2011 03:19 PM

We've just modified our services and added some additional links you can use to allow users of your tel site/directory quick and easy access to relevant & local tel references.

If you want to provide a user a quick 1 click link to any local taxis in your directory simply add the following link to your tel domain:
    http://nearherenow.com/[YOUR DOMAIN]/taxi/tel/

If you want to allow them to find a local taxi within the dottel 'sphere' just leave out the /tel i,e,
    http://nearherenow.com/taxi/
This returns results of any google indexed tel pages that have taxi information and matching local data.

You can also perform the same google search outside your tel domain as follows:
    http://nearherenow.com/[YOUR DOMAIN]/taxi/

    Example links:
http://nearherenow.com/borough/taxi/tel/ - Will look for local taxi details in the directory borough.tel & show results within the .tel domain itself
http://nearherenow.com/taxi/ - Will look for local for taxis in the tel 'sphere'
http://nearherenow.com/borough/taxi/ - Will try and look for local taxis in the borough.tel domain first, but failing that will show local taxis from the tel 'sphere'

Sample tel site that links to an external results page: http://DS.tel (Directory Services)
    Instructions also added here: http://NearHereNow.com

    * tel 'sphere' basically means dottel sites indexed by google

in preparation for launching our new ad system - just updating some of our geo location code and added a new service:

    http://nearherenow.com/near-

The ultimate goal of the service is to actual map to directories servicing each location and build a connected network:
i.e. http://nearherenow.com/near-trinidad once live instead of searching and offering a listing of options, will take you to http://trinidad.tel or another populated location directory servicing that area.

for all those community members using the existing services, we'll continue supporting them as is and will not change or modify their existing behaviour. New urls will be published for the new services.
