Yelp Opens First International Sales Office In London

By Matt McGee on 10th July 2012

Yelp’s international growth took another step today with the opening of its first ad sales office outside the U.S.

Prince Andrew, The Duke of York, was on hand for the announcement, which the company says will involve more than 100 new advertising and marketing jobs.

As part of the launch, Yelp’s Jed Nachman, the Senior VP of Revenue, has relocated from Yelp’s San Francisco headquarters to the new London office. He’s been with the company since 2007.

Although this is Yelp’s first international sales office, the company has staff in 17 countries overall.

Yelp just began selling and showing ads on its UK site during the second quarter of 2012. Yelp ads have previously only shown in the U.S. and Canada.

Any tie-up with a "Yellow Pages" organisation should really be using .TEL for what it was designed for, i.e. a single point of data entry with all your details entered only once (into the DNS) and any service requiring that data reading it in real-time, eliminating the problem of duplicate and inconsistent data as often occurs now !

I know Telnic did several deals with YP organisations over the last year or two - not sure if any actually operated like this - if they did they should be shouting from the rooftops:

".TEL ELIMINATES DUPLICATE AND INCONSISTENT DATA FOREVER"

I recently proposed to Telnic a dynamic record type which would cause content to be read from a source .tel domain and displayed on another .tel domain. This would solve the problem of stale data in online directories given critical mass. Basically just provide a link from your page to another and say I want to render phone number for example. For the time being this record type is not going to be developed, but hoping that in the future they will reconsider.

Mark, I sometimes wonder how you keep the enthusiasm going ?

So many good suggestions you make to Telnic, yet so few actually get implemented !
