domain names

    Hello all,
I have been an active reader of all of the .tel boards. I have seen hundreds of names and a lot of them are very catchy. I have a few decent ones myself. My concern is how do people find them. If you have plumbers.tel and someone is looking for a plumber, it seems pretty easy to see them finding you. If you own kaboom.tel and have plans for making it a site for (whatever) how will people figure out that is what your site is all about. The geo's seem to be the best .tel play that I can think of. When you are is Seattle, you go to Seattle.tel. I love bonfire.tel as listed above. I am trying to figure out how we put those names into the mind of the web surfer.

    Gav06-27-2009 10:39 AM

It is very difficult to get the idea across on some .tel anyway has lots of people still don't get it.

It will be a lot easier for owners of geos and products to build directories and get visitors.

But as for words like bonfire it will be a lot more difficult as people will not visit as the word potentially no service springs to mind.

Im not knocking the word at as I also think it is ok, its just generating that traffic that will be the problem.

    Regards

    Gav

    Shahid06-27-2009 12:11 PM

Thanks for your comments on here, i personally feel that its not what you own ( as in geo or word )
but its how you express it or present it, as you should see .tel is a super tool for SEO

lets say you a word.tel may be anything in subject or off subject

    Plumbers.word.tel
    Carpenters.word.tel

so the sub domains which you put makes it more easier for the
directory to be advertised and indexed in google easier.

as you have to notice currently all the traffic that comes to .tel

    1) Search Engines
    2) Word of mouth

so it will go far way Longlive.tel

    Shahid06-28-2009 11:09 PM

    Just grabbed

    popalock.tel
    unlockme.tel
    lockedout.tel

    daytonac06-29-2009 08:16 AM

hi guys just bought these interesting dot.tels in the last couple of days.

    inasia.tel
    ineurope.tel
    inusa.tel
    intokyo.tel
    inmexico.tel
    inafrica.tel
    inbeijing.tel
    inhollywood.tel
    inaustralia.tel
    telebetting.tel
    4trades.tel
    4business.tel
    4apartments.tel
    ezloans.tel

i'm liking what i'm hearing about sub-leasing, hence why the in(series) dottels.

these and more for sale on http://dottels.tel

    enes07-01-2009 08:55 AM

    hotelistanbul.tel
    hotella.tel

    Shahid07-01-2009 03:55 PM

    nice ones :)

i like ezloans.tel i think it would be advisable if you try to set up some financial instituions or banks that can be indexed by google well and pay u in long run.

    hotelistanbul.tel is good

try to list as many hotels posible there as google indexes .tel domains faster that would be
    the key point .

like EG : princess.hotelistanbul.tel ( someone looks for princess hotel you have more chances of being on top in long run )

    Shahid

    enes07-02-2009 07:30 AM

    Shahid

Have a look at hotelistanbul.tel. I did just what you are saying.

    Shahid07-02-2009 08:20 AM

very nicely done, you will see the result of this keywords in the next 2-4 weeks and be happy about it as well.

one thing i would like to suggest is. make a heading for your hotel Istanbul, something like

Welcome to Hotel Istanbul, here you will find ...list of hotels ..and little bit more information

    why ?

    1) to attract your visitor to click in more
    2) to index in google with keywords

then go down and try to enter as many keywords you can like

    Cheap hotels in Instanbul
    find hotels in istanbul
    luxury hotels in istanbul

Etc it will do you good

    enes07-02-2009 10:41 AM

    I will
    Thanks Shahid

    Shahid07-02-2009 02:34 PM

your welcome hope it does you good in future Enes

if anyone of you have any problems kind of problems or need suggestion or help in buidling i up your .tel just ask me here and will try my best to help you out, i know i m not pro but you wont get a bad suggestion for free either :)

I really need to start to setup my .tel domains, I have just left most of them.

Just had a call from a girl this afternoon asking if It was lakeside shopping center.

She must have used lakeside.tel which I purchased and have just left my home number on there.

At least people are finding it

    Regards

    Gav

    Shahid07-05-2009 09:18 PM

wow thats good, atleast shows people are trying to use, i think it will be better to list all your .tel accordingly as google tries to index them and you have more chances of being listed with your subdomain as well

nice one there maximka, i m glad people are taking interest in posting their new .tel here

i hope this becomes a good point to showcase / Discuss your new .tel and gives a lot of potential for an end user finding you to buy it.

Also got hold of www.onlinelearning.tel ( Online Learning .tel )

loads of people find it difficult to travel so they opt for online learning
and examinations as well a perfect for such kind of a thing

    RonMunson07-27-2009 11:37 PM

Good name Shahid with -> OnlineLearning.TEL

I would create some type of mobile online learning tool such as downloadable audio education. Properly constructed it could be a powerful .TEL

    Shahid07-27-2009 11:43 PM

Thank personally i m not good at programming so i have to wait, unless i find a good end user i might sell it off

    RonMunson07-28-2009 12:00 AM

Maybe we could work a trade out once I get some of my .Tel projects rolled out.

    Shahid07-28-2009 12:03 AM

sure, i even noticed you had a lot of taxi related domains in usa it good to develop them
and also put under one umbrella usataxi.tel

    RonMunson07-28-2009 06:38 AM

Just to comment on this thread. To understand what domains are most valuable you must look at the three different values domains have:

    1) Search Engine Potential Value
    2) Brand Potential Value
-How easy is it to remember
    3) Traffic Value
    -Link Traffic
    -Guess Typein Traffic
    -Spelling Mistake Typein Traffic
    -Brand Typein Traffic

A name such as NewYorkLawyer would have strong search engine value, some brand value and Guess Type-in value. While a name such as bonfire or flicker could have brand potential value.

If I promote the ice cream out of one of my dot tels and people start to recognize it it would start to build up Brand Type-in traffic and people would link to it creating Link Type-in value. If I took the site down and sold the name it would still provide this value to the new owners that buy it.

It is easier to compare domains when you point out the value the domains have.

One final note that I noticed in this thread that I must comment on is the bit about how it doesn't matter what domain you own but rather how you express it. The example was 'Plumbers.word.tel' where word=geo city.

I must correct this. It does highly matter what domain you own when it comes to search engine optimization. Getting mearly listed on Google really is worthless unless you are on the two pages for a good keyword search. There was another thread where we talked about .Tel's and what order they would rank on search engines for a local geo search.

Keep in mind if you own a top level geo such as 'New York' you would require the user to do a bunch of searching and clicking before he were to find a plumber. I would rather own NewYorkPlumber.tel or something similar to that.

    Shahid07-29-2009 10:34 PM

    Thats a good post ron,

i just grabbed USTAXI.tel and previously owned USATAXI.tel

    Hi Shahid

I was going to buy ustaxi.tel last week after purcahsing ukcabs.tel and uktaxis.tel.

Decided it was a to large a project for me but wish you every success in the world.

There is also another great one that I am tempted by for the uk, but again it looks just to mush at the minute.

    Just Grabbed

Endangered.tel ( perfect domain for any organization working on Endangered species )

    what do you think ?

    Shahid

    RonMunson07-31-2009 12:15 AM

Another good scoop. I could picture this being handy on the road if someone wants to see if something they are about to buy is on the endangered list. DotTel would be the perfect solution for this since it should be in a quick, directory style setup.

I would have three main folders 'Endangered List', 'Top 50 Endangered', 'Donation Sites'

    Shahid07-31-2009 12:21 AM

Thanks, will work on it in a few day kinda lazy right now, but i personally thought to do it this way

animal.endangered.tel ( then over there we could take it geo that will help both the seo and user friendliness )

    like Tigers.endangered.tel ..

    Gav07-31-2009 12:25 AM

    Hi Shahid

Im sure when I looked last week that ustaxi.tel was free to reg but officialy not if your friend owned it. It has got me thinking now what I must have typred in.

Best of luck with it Shahid im sure you will do well.

    Regards

    Gav

    Shahid07-31-2009 12:33 AM

sometimes registeries play you for a fool, grabs your money and then say
oh its gone so buy another one instead haha i always multi check.

if you check the who.i of ustaxi.tel is registered on 23rd march i think

hopefully it will turn out good as usataxi and ustaxi so no competitors

If you take it geo it will probably be harder to maintain down the road.

    Shahid07-31-2009 12:52 PM

True but, normally if it goes like

    Endangered.tel =>
Information.endangered.tel ( Websites based on information on various endangered Species )
Donation.endangered.tel ( Organizations looking to help preserve these animals and get them to their real habitat )

Wildlife.Endangered.tel ( can consist of various organizations both on land and marine )

Do look at www.endangered.tel now and let me know what u think

    Hello Daytonac,

as for your .tel i would say the following

Single Charts.tel ( unless you know of any sites that will pay you to list there sites there its not worth it )

albumcharts.tel the same goes for this one as well.

publichospitals.tel ( is a very good one and can be used for listing all kinds of public hospitals around the world )

safetyglass.tel can be good for safety glass companies listing

sharebroker.tel if it was stock broker very nice share broker doesnt sound much
    sharebrokers.tel
surfwatch.tel hard to say anyone will look for surf waches unless you meant it for weather alert to watch the surf the way it hit Tsunami
skiwatch.tel hard to find market as watch.tel and watches.tel might beat u to it

then again its just a suggestion i might be wrong :)

In your list PublicHospitals.tel is by far your best name. It's actually kind of memorable but you better hope that Hospitals.tel and Hospital.tel don't do the same thing you plan on doing with it.

Development would be a directory style .tel listing all of the public hospitals in the world. The rest of the names I'm not keen on.

    Shahid08-07-2009 10:07 PM

Agree with you there Ron, but its always good to make a neutral feeling about what one gets as he won't be able to get a refund unless he ordered it from dynadot :)

    good luck anyway daytonac

Definitely not. For a variety of reasons.

I'm certain that Google will be penalizing domains with dashes very shortly since many people buy these domains to cheat the engines.

    henri10-09-2009 06:15 AM

Dashes should be considered spaces. I don't believe there will be a penalty beyond the fact that "som-ething" won't appear on a search for "something", only on "som ething".

Penalizing for having a '-' in the domain?
    LOL thats a wrong statement.
There are more number of domains with '-' because of non-availability or other reasons.

Google will not penalize a site just because it has got '-' in it.

Atleast from domainers point of view you get more money for candybars.tel or .com than candy-bars.tel or .com

Glad to know about "-" thing but if i was given a chance to type a .tel on my phone i would surely type it
wordword.tel instead of word-word.tel so i personally do not like the dashes i hope i don't have any in my list hahaah

just wanted to share i won SportsBars.tel could be a good directory for Sports Bars full of fans for footbal/soccer/baseball/basketball and many other sports

Google will correct the spelling in this case leading the person back to the 'something' search. Even then if a company were to call itself Som EThing they would run into a serious branding problem.

    A quick search produces www.something.com

    http://www.google.ca/search?hl=en&so...meta=&aq=f&oq=

In my opinion I would never recommend a person to buy a domain with a dash unless they have short term aspirations for the domain. :o

How many large websites can you name that use a dash in their domain name? There is a reason why you get more money for candybars.tel or .com over candy-bars.tel.

When .info was released there were many people that said Google would rank these names well on the search engine. The problem is that they should the .info lower than all other domain names and so a lot of fly by night sites and phising sites grew on these domain names. Google banned this domain from search results for a period of time preventing all legitimate .info businesses from growing.

These days .info domains hold no value and there isn't a poor sole who will base a business around it. The problem with .info is that .com was already doing what it was designed for.

The usability of the domain name is the key to the success of new domains. Dot tel offers a very unique and powerful usability which will encourage investment and construction as new ideas are based around it.

When I say penalize, I should have been more specific. I don't mean that Google will drop a company with a dash just that it won't give it same same weight as one that doesn't have the dash.

If we were working for Google and making the decisions wouldn't we do the same? As has been mentioned before on this forum, Google is in the game of producing the most accurate results for what people are looking for. If we have two domain names, as listed below, what result weight would you give for the search term 'New York Lawyer'

    NewYorkLawyer.com
    NewYork-Lawyer.com
    New-York-Lawyer.com

If I'm a betting man I'll bet that NewYorkLawyer.com has the most applicable result for what I was searching for. Why? For two reasons:
    1) NewYorkLawyer.com could be owned by someone that registered it years ago and has had a well established business.
    2) NewYorkLawyer.com could be owned by someone that has recently purchased this domain name for a lot of money. Seeing that this new owner was willing to give a lot of money you can bet that he is putting the same money into making sure the site is well done and pointing to a service.

Now looking at the results with dashes we can say that someone scouped them up for next door to nothing and may or may not have a decent resulting website. There is also a higher probablity that the person that scouped up the one with the dashes is trying to cheat the search engines with the words in the domain.

If you did another search for another industry would you bet the best result wouldn't be the one without the dashes? I wouldn't.

Google's algorithm is about finding the best possible results and any clue of this in the domain will give weight accordingly.

    Triton NW10-09-2009 09:33 PM

All great points. I decided to get hot-sauce.tel to go along with hotsauce.tel just to avoid a potential conflict. That is the beauty of $10.95 for a .tel

is this enough big site? http://www.merriam-webster.com/
and yes it a BIG site

The discussion here is not HOW MANY. The discussion is around whether Google penalize a domain for having '-' (as you said it will).

Yes you should be VERY specific in forum discussion because there are many new members who are new to .tel and very new when it comes to seo/sem/internet marketing.

Google does not give more weightage to crappydomain.com and less weightage to crappy-domain.com

It will depend on how the domain is built and how it is promoted, its popularity.

Google's algo is about finding the best results that match the user perception (it changes regularly to fight spam).

Google WILL NOT penalize any domain just for having a '-' in it nor it necessarily give less weight-age to a hypen domain.

Guys remember there are many sites with hypens that rank well than a similar domain name without hypens.
Remember you can always beat your competitor if you build a good domain and promote it ahead of your competitors.
If you could source a domain without hypens then its fine and if you get a domain name with hypen then also fine because Google WILL NOT penalize a domain just for Having hypen in it.

    No problem mate

advantages and disadvantages of hypen and without hypen does exist but search engines do not blindly devalue a hypen domain

just got to this forum after a long break working on a nice site i got today

www.myquran.tel ( Quran is the holy book for Muslims and .tel will play an important role in it too )
no offence to any religon here :)

it can be visited now and you will find out its not even done 2 % but it can show you the structure on how its laid out and how it can turn out to be beneficial to anyone in long run the best part is i plan to launch it multilingual

coming back to the "-" or no '-" i really dont know much about how its played i have seen many sites with "-" one of the most famous i know is www.easy-forex.com where i lost over US$ 1.5k on gold yesterday so there are quite a number of high ranked sites but the main purpose of .tel is not only search engine but how the user adopts it.

now everyone has his/her concepts to look at things we all might do something but not all will like so the same thing with "-" many people might not want to use it on there phone if they can use brb for be right back or lol for laugh out loud they might stick to the exact words or sentences they place to type.

some people do like smaller extensions like L-V.tld for Las Vegas

anyways its good to know and inform people about various things on .tel and how it can benefit us in long run have learnt sum important facts that i did not know before so kinda happy about that too

in the mean time if anyone needs an idea structure on how to setup their .tel i can help you free of cost.

and keep those .tel registrations coming in we need to see more .tel on fresh tel of the day, i even forgot i had opened this thread and its doing so well

    Thanks

    Shahid

Thank you, yes indeed personally i have so many i haven't even completed one but as they say beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder so many people don't really know what they own before i used to buy anything but now with time one develops quality picking or rather it has to pass through the QC

HelpLine.tel is not this small to develop as you think it is, for a right person any .tel or domain is a diamond but for person who does not know what to do with it its like a rough gem waiting to be explored

i just thought of buying it for resell, not development i have no time to develop my own but incase i would ever want something like this it would be like

    AIDSHelpline.tel
    FluHelpline.tel
    SwineFluHelpLine

these are some good domains incase anyone thing i hope someone registers any
    after my post

    Hottub.tel

    Reseller buys

    mactel11-15-2009 12:48 AM

    .
If I where not familiar with the dot tel domain: For example:

I would think that "hottub.tel" is a single contact business card of one small business, providing hot tubs to buy, or to use (hot tub club).

But maybe "hottub.tel" wants to be a directory for loads of businesses about hot tubs.

I think it would be clearer to me, if the name was:
    "hottubs.tel"
    "hottubdirectory.tel"
    "besthottubs.tel"
    "hottubclub.tel"
    "hottubintimeclub.tel"
    "hottuboutlet.tel"
    "hottubdiscount.tel", etc.

I believe, that if people would know, which .tel domains are directories, they would use them, to look up a contact address or contact phone number, or just info about companies in that business field or sector.

I guess, the idea of directories, is new, in world of domain names (besides dot org and dot net domains).
And so, a lot of people may not always expect to find a directory under a .tel domain name. Only, when it looks obvious, like "hotels", "taxi's", "hollidays", "tours", "vodka", "beer", "wine", "fish and chips", etc.

Plural might be easier, than singular.
Maybe "hottub.tel" for a intime club/bar/erotic club, and "huttubs.tel", for a supplier of hot tubs, and hot tub accessories and parts.

Of course, one could name the header:
    "Hot Tubs -Directory" / hottub.tel"

Just be sure, that the users get the propper message and information.
    .

    Shahid11-15-2009 09:06 AM

True but guess what HOTTUBS.tel is gone and i didn't bother contacting him as i got Hottub.tel at a steal price.

    Hi Shahid,
how much where you able to get, for "hottubs.tel"?
What are the prices you get for selling your domain names?
Can you give us a few examples/ideas/hints?

If you are good at selling, you maybe could sell a few of my domain names, and get a nice commision (10% of the price payed by the buyer). Plus a extra bonus, depending on the individual sale.

    Thank you.
    .

    Shahid11-15-2009 01:34 PM

    Hello Mactel,

Thank you for your message, to answer your questions

    1) i did not contact hottubs.tel so i am not sure how much he wants for it
but since he bought it in Landrush ( not general ) so he paid over 380 for it
where as mine costed me way less then that even if i renew till 2012 its
    still less then 100 US$

    2) i personally dont mail anyone about .tel all are listed on sedo if anyone
feels they need to buy it there is a link where they can bid and make an
offer if i am in a good mood they will be lucky or else i can wait

    3) examples and ideas about what ?

    4) i dont have time to market my own domains why would i want to approach
people to sell others, i own over 280 .tel which makes sense or are atleast words
which can be build into directories i guess sedo is a good place to sell your domains
and they will be more then happy to take ur 10% :)

incase you have any more queries your free to post

    Shahid

By saying "grabbing", do you mean "registering", or buying a existing domain from a other domainer?

But I guess, those names are your own creations....

    Thanks.
    .
    .

    Shahid12-20-2009 01:18 PM

Grabbing can refer to both snatching or registering its more or less an expression of excitement, i could not believe it was available.

from other domainer i have Snatched

    InsuranceRate.tel
    buyInsurance.tel
    Equity.tel
    PreciousMetal.tel

and many more ( 2 on the way will share it when i get them )

    mactel12-20-2009 01:31 PM

    .
It is always a pleasure to read your reports upon your purchases.

Nevertheless, it would be interesting to know, which domains you got by snatching (the creations of ohters), and which ones by registering (your own creations).

Otherwhise, it might not be very meaningful and informative to the reader.

    Cheers.

Going to use it for promotional voting, the most popular furrie in the community will get to use it exclusively for the first 6 months of the year, and someone else for the next 6 months e.t.c.

    Continuous voting = Continuous traffic
    Most popular = Continuous traffic

Which will help market my other .tel keyword specific domains with populated data and mobile complient data, pdf e.t.c and help make referal sales from others who want there own name.

I decided to take it as I want to make local directory for advertising one herb product for hair. yea sure, its good to take things step by step since the demand at present is 1% and supply is 99%
but hopefully with time things should be normal and people would want to buy domains

    Hi Guys

I have just regged 2 more .tels.

Really pleased with them and really surprised they were both still available. Nearly every other extension regged on both.

I know some some don't like domains with an e or i but I personally do.

    Just got

ecity.tel - will make this into a large city directory - probably take me years, lol

efly.tel - not sure for this one yet.

It is a good sign to have a first client. So first client should have a huge discount. How much to ask? Perhaps at this moment, nobody will know this. I personally would asked 5-10$ in a month - as for the first client. Additionally I would say, that Iater, when the client will want to change something in his contacts info, this action will require my additional job in managing domain's content, so then he will need to pay 3-10$ for each content changing.

    Just got

    FijiRealEstate.tel

I am not sure why are you trying to talk about valuation of domains here when this thread is just to discuss a new domain on what one gets and how intends to populate it and would be happy if the members here can help in giving ideas then warning each other.

more or less i would say one thing at thing point .tel can not be appraised it might be worth 10$ or 10Billion ( ) only time will tell so stay cool and giving wrong ideas to people will only make things worse ( Mactel refrain from giving wrong ideas of prices you might have a domain which might be worth 50,000 but in others eyes it might not even be worth 5 $

do let me know what you guys got in last couple of days :)

    Thanks

Perhaps this could be used to link to a bulletin board to address comments/questions to the President. Obviously a moderated non-partisan bulletin board as I wouldn't want unappropriate content.

It is several times registered as a trademark, that is why I wonder how some people here switch their opinions overnight.

    Undermoose04-03-2010 06:56 PM

What's the context of the trademark?

What's this "change opinion overnight" you refer to?

I'm no lawyer, but I'm very sure a generic name like TheOvalOffice is public domain. If it's trade marked then I can't infringe on their use of the words would be my read on it.

The best example of this is as you said, if something is several times registered as a trade mark then it's a clear example of multple parties having their own specific use for it. It is close to impossible to register any commonly known public domain word(s) and not find a trade mark.

    JLouisBiz04-03-2010 07:04 PM

To understand what I am talking about, read this:
    http://telnic.org/forum/showpost.php?p=7561&postcount=3

    Then read this:
    http://telnic.org/forum/showpost.php...&postcount=253

And see that "OVAL OFFICE" and "THE OVAL OFFICE" is registered a trademark:

I cannot know why some users change their opinion over night.

But I am 100% sure confident that registering TEL domains which ARE trademarks (of others) is LEGAL, as long as there is no infringement of other people's rights.

One does not infringe on trademark by using the same trademark in various other areas.

TEL domains like all COM and other domains are there to be registered, and TheOvalOffice.TEL, although clearly registered as trademark, can have many good uses and can be also sold to trademark owners -- all being legitimate and legal.

    Undermoose04-03-2010 07:51 PM

Well I'm sure you've been reading up on current events so you know there is much leeway on use of domain names today, for any pupose that isn't in bad faith or infringement. There are just to many extensions now to grant entitlement to every trademark owner for every extension, and we have a clear authority to resolve any problems that do come up. I support the system.

I think what we are going to see in the not to distant future is trademarks being extension specific. Apple.com will not have rights to apple.cc and apple.biz, etc. Someone will be allowed to have apple.me and sell apple computers with it, and why not as long as they don't mis-represent themselves etc.

I would not be surprised if the major players all soon have their own extensions to solidify their branding. I.e. .IBM .Apple. .Microsoft, .whatever.

Trademarks are not permits to entitlement. They are very specific.

If you try to avoid all trademarks for every domain extension ever to be created it'll be one heck of a tangle and highly profitable for the lawyers.

This is precisely why business today does not pursue domains using their trademark unless they find them to have an actionable offense, fraud, mis-representation, whatever. Businesses that do pursue on grounds of entitlenment alone are losing.

Now that you bring this specific name to the table Theovaloffice.tel, I looked the trademarks up just now. I can assure you I have no plans to enter the booze business, paper shredder business, bath towels, lol. I don't know their company names, but I'm betting they are not The Oval Office, and rather these are products. There is actually a Oval Office, LLC but their mark is Oval Office Gentlemen's Club... Not to close, and their actual business name, Oval Office LLC, has their OvalOfficeLLC.tel still available....

Enough with the "Wrath of The Trademark God" speaches. Get any word(s) you want and use them in any way you see fit EXCEPT in the way the trademark holders are already using it, and not for the purpose of targetting the trademark holder for resale.

Also, don't do anything stupid like register non public domain words, Microsoft, etc... I think that is one of the most common trademark confusions out there, the difference between specific uses of public domain words vs highly branded uniques "Samsung", "Microsoft", etc, or household names like Apple.

    Register Public Domain Words Only.

    JLouisBiz04-03-2010 08:50 PM

Absolutely, I agree with that and strongly oppose anyone bashing people for registering TEL domains.

Further, I specifically, don't care at all if anyone targets trademarks when registering TEL domains, that is on businessman to decide, and on the courts to judge in case of anything being illegal.

You are right on trademarks being very specific, I would also like to add: specific to jurisdictions as well. And specific to class of goods and services.

Company names are not trademarks, and company names are under companies' laws.

BTW, For "THE OVAL OFFICE" I have found 2 live trademarks, did not look whom they belong. That also shows that same trademark can be registered by various companies in various classes of goods and services.

Registering a domain name which is also trademark does not constitute "cybersquatting" -- as anyone is free to use same trademark in different jurisdiction, further, anyone is free to use same trademark in the same jurisdiction for different class of goods and services.

Short example: you can have Chiquita trademark for trade of bananas, but nobody prevents you to sell software named "Chiquita".

Some naive, uneducated amateurs may accuse TEL domain holders to be "cybersquatters". Nothing more ridiculous have I found on that subject. There are many factors which relate to the term "cybersquatting", and those are determined by court, not by anonymous characters.

    Undermoose04-03-2010 09:31 PM

I don't understand this comment then.

Your comment here seems in contradiction to your last post. I'm confused. It seemed you were objecting to my registering TheOvalOffice.tel, which is a domain I find so amusing, and with potential.

    JLouisBiz04-03-2010 09:53 PM

My position is very clear: ℡℡℡.

My research of what is trademark and what is not a trademark, is not irrelevant that I like seeing TEL domains registered.

And I don't like when amateurs proclaim any domain name holder to be "cybersquatter", like here:
    http://telnic.org/forum/showthread.php?p=7561

    Undermoose04-03-2010 10:19 PM

So your comment was directed at MKolb. This is not the thread for this.

Moreover, comparing TheOvalOffice.Tel to Mactel and your issue is entirely inapropriate and inacurate. I've not targeted a company.

The only valid point you made was echoing the fact that there can be multiple parties with similar or identical trademarks, and you expanded on that information. Let's be clear though, those entities didn't trademark their company or product to compete or sell to their competition. We must also follow similar rules for public domain verbage.

    JLouisBiz04-04-2010 02:43 AM

Surely, my comment is on those which bash other people, which they don't like, based on unfounded research.

Do you again mention "Oval Office" as "public domain"?

There is no such thing as "public domain" for trademarks. And this mentioned domain name constitutes trademark:

    THE OVAL OFFICE COLLECTION
Bath towels; Beach towels; Bed sheets. FIRST USE: 20051003. FIRST USE IN COMMERCE: 20051003

    OVAL OFFICE GENTLEMEN'S CLUB
entertainment services, namely, live show performances by dancers. FIRST USE: 20080515. FIRST USE IN COMMERCE: 20080515

    THE OVAL OFFICE
Prepared vodka alcoholic martini cocktails made exclusively from OVAL brand vodka

    OVAL OFFICE
Paper Shredding Machines. FIRST USE: 20030613. FIRST USE IN COMMERCE: 20030613

    THE OVAL OFFICE
RESTAURANTS, CARRY OUT RESTAURANTS, CATERING SERVICES, AND BAR SERVICES

Basically, if YOU are in United States, and you use http://TheOvalOffice.Tel for any class of goods or services above, or similar class of goods or services, you may get trouble with the above companies having those trademarks. Even without usage of the domain, the domain is subject to easy "take over" through the UDRP procedure

That is certainly comparable!, and comparison is appropriate and accurate.

Same person has one opinion in regards to one domain name holder, and completely other opinion in regards tohttp://TheOvalOffice.Tel -- while, funny to observe, almost none of those trademarks are valid trademarks in his country.

    Undermoose04-04-2010 08:03 AM

What you are saying is 100 percent wrong, and this is not comparable to registering business names with direct intent to resell to them. Apparently you don't see this still? Perhaps if the business names were soooo generic there were 100 or a 1000 of them all over the place, ok I'll bite, it's a good resale plan.

Anyway to reiterate, I have no intention of using TheOvalOffice.Tel in any of those classes of goods or services, and you are just repeating what I previously stated. This part is well defined.

To repeat myself again, I don't think you understand where the state of the Internet is today. Extensions ad infinata... Trademark owners are not entitled to them all LOL, and I don't agree that this domain can be stripped from my possession through UDRP. One very clear requirement is proof that it was registered in bad faith, and so specifically, how does one demonstrate that when the word(s) are so generic?

If we were to follow your logic then nobody could register the word Sugar. LOL Take a look at the laundry list of trade marks there! 50 LIVE Trademarks.

You are not going to convince me the word Sugar isn't "Public Domain", and you aren't going to convince me that the supreme commander's personal office in the White House isn't public domain verbage.

This is exactly where one must understand the issue when trademarking generic words, they can only protect their class of service or goods, not the use of the word(s). That's why company's spend large sums of money to create and defend unique words. Samsung is a classic example Samsung = "Massgun" "production to the masses in concept"- So Samsung is not a name, it's a fictitious word and as such highly defendable as a trademark.

It never hurts to read up on trademark law, I'm certainly not an expert, but I'm surrounded by Trademark lawyers all day who deal with tangible trademark domain issues constantly. The bottom line for them is that unless someone starts using a conflicting name in a bad faith mannar they don't care about it.

    JLouisBiz04-04-2010 09:12 AM

    Everything you say, I understand.

But don't forget, the "intention" which you talk about is not established on public forum, not by me or by you or by Canadian experts.

The "intention" is always established at the court.

And there are so many factors, that you or Mactel would ever fall into the category of "cybersquatting". Mactel is immediately excluded because he is not in the U.S. jurisdiction, but in Switzerland. The U.S. law does not apply to Swiss residents. As simple as that. Companies concerned have their recourse through the UDRP and the law system.

But again: I have zero care of which domains you or anybody registers. There is no need for too much justifications.

Your examples in regards to "SUGAR" simply do not build an argument for you to say that "SUGAR" is public domain. The word "SUGAR" cannot be registered for sales of sugar, that is clear, but none of the above examples shows "SUGAR" as trademark, all are very distinctive trademarks containing the word SUGAR -- and not only SUGAR

Word "SUGAR" alone, is free for everyone, that is clear, but not based on the above arguments.

While "THE OVAL OFFICE" and "OVAL OFFICE" are clearly distinctive trademarks.

I agree with you in regards of free registrations of domains, but not in regards of "establishment of bad faith or intention" by means of public forum jury.

    Undermoose04-04-2010 02:40 PM

You do make a good point about no single use of the word Sugar.

Anyone could register the word Sugar and use it for Sugar sales, it's 100 percent generic that's why no Sugar only exists, however there are many words or phrases that fall into the category of generic or public domain.

    ----------------------------

Let's look at the UDRP, registration in bad faith is a requirement for decision to strip a domain from the present owner. To demonstrate registration in bad faith, this is the text from UDRP:

    b. Evidence of Registration and Use in Bad Faith. For the purposes of Paragraph 4(a)(iii), the following circumstances, in particular but without limitation, if found by the Panel to be present, shall be evidence of the registration and use of a domain name in bad faith:

    (i) circumstances indicating that you have registered or you have acquired the domain name primarily for the purpose of selling, renting, or otherwise transferring the domain name registration to the complainant who is the owner of the trademark or service mark or to a competitor of that complainant, for valuable consideration in excess of your documented out-of-pocket costs directly related to the domain name; or

(ii) you have registered the domain name in order to prevent the owner of the trademark or service mark from reflecting the mark in a corresponding domain name, provided that you have engaged in a pattern of such conduct; or

(iii) you have registered the domain name primarily for the purpose of disrupting the business of a competitor; or

(iv) by using the domain name, you have intentionally attempted to attract, for commercial gain, Internet users to your web site or other on-line location, by creating a likelihood of confusion with the complainant's mark as to the source, sponsorship, affiliation, or endorsement of your web site or location or of a product or service on your web site or location.

    ---------------------------

To meet these conditions is no less than a GIANT LEAP of conclusion regarding common phrases or words, and none of these conditions are met in OVAL OFFICE or THE OVAL OFFICE.

I am convinced this is the specific text that protects the general public and allows them to use common prhase domain text (words or phrases) in anyway they see fit as long as they do not fall within this UDRP bad faith context.

From my perspective this is one foundation for why new extensions allow for growth on the Internet. It's close to impossible to register anything without crossing a trademark in some way, it's the use of the domain that matters.

I don't believe you or Mactel are excluded from this text. ALL REGISTRARS must follow ICANN and the UDRP. I've done no research on his names, so I'm not sure if they are trademarks, but If his words or phrases target trademark holders they would be stripped via decision in minutes based on his own statements alone, he acknowledges intent to resell. Correct me if I'm mistaken, but this isn't US law vs Switzerland - this is internet law and registration policy - and Telnic follows these guide lines.

    JLouisBiz04-04-2010 04:41 PM

Well, no need for judging on public forum. UDRP rules are elsewhere published and known. I have read much of the UDRP cases and we provide services for people with domain name problems.

Your domain is perfect example of a domain which consists the trademark.

Many such domain name holders have argued with the same arguments which you make now, but futile.

    Sorry, read UDRP cases.

    Undermoose04-04-2010 06:25 PM

Link me one example of a successful complaint involving common words or phrases.

    hello,

happy to be back here on the thread, many .tel owners are not aware of telnic forum to post or they are least bothered to know about it and are hanging on to what they got, but mind it many do come and read without registering so incase next time you see numbers of views on the thread or post its not just google bots its normal people like you and me too.

    i got domains like

    Decor.tel
    Write.tel
    Erikson.tel
    karlsen.tel

    and a bunch more :)

wanted to buy some idns but then again i had no clue what i would be looking for so gave it up.

Believe if used as a name, its of French origin, derived from Eloi, used a lot in England as the surname Loy, also popular in Fujan province of China Shahid (not joking).

    Thanks Cees & Steve.

since .tel is so much being concentrated now it's time to look for nice one word names
that really are quite common who knows when someone comes knocking on your door ( Email )
but at the end all depends on your patience i might be wrong but i feel this name is going to be
    worth a lot.

i have already had offers for shahid.tel and shahid.me which is not even that common

    Cees12-19-2010 11:18 AM

    Shahid,
My name isn't all that common either, except in Holland where it use to be very popular, however I am more than pleased with its ranking, usually on page one sometimes first on page one, it's the only name I bought in the sunrise period.
    cees.tel

That was indeed a good one, but like i say you might have the best of the word it depends on how you monetize it or work it for you. a .tel does not have value until you see the value in it yourself.

Dailaroom, Thanks yes your are, infact anyone can use the statement as long as they are on positive side of .tel :)

Good luck with it maximka, i have plenty of .tel for investment too but to be frank if i go to sell them none want it even the sales of .tel you have seen in past bounced off ( people don't talk about it ) but this is reality.

i was very enthusiastic about .tel at first and wanted to start of with many projects but what i learn't in long run is ( work on one project ) even if you use other .tels for redirection rather then start of with 100's and none gets completed.

for example check for the following.

    order fresh exotic meat ( page 2 ) meat.tel

so not bad for something i did not even concentrate on

    i have words like

    Decor.tel
    SpareParts.tel
    Automobiles.tel
    Traveling.tel
    decoration.tel and many more

still even looked at properly but will in near future once i finish with my other .tel

Great names there Shahid, Sheikh.tel should be a high earner. Perhaps you could do a post in the sales, it would be interesting to hear your thoughts on whether .tels are re-selling and have a list of topsellers etc.

Thanks, yea Sheikh.tel is something i was after for 2 years finally the seller needed
money and i guess i got the name.

will see how it goes, i paid good amount of money for it so not looking at selling cheap and alot of people do not come to telnic forums i posted some names recently no one took interest removed them

if people don't like names like

Touring.tel or Holy.tel i am not sure what names they after haha

    Shahid,
Where you have "Might be for sale" I think you should change that to Night be for sale,
the message remains the same but ads a slight touch of humour IMHO.
    Cheers and Good luck.

    dottel.net04-09-2012 05:55 PM

depends on what you had in mind for developing them out? as shown, simply buying to hold .tel names doesn't seem like a sound investment. its important to have a use for the .tel, populate it and promote it to see a return on your investment.

considering your other sites, i'm sure you have a plan in mind to populate.

Took a bookmaker, made it a little promo site. Maybe someone knows the topic and doing affiliate-banners sportsbooks where you can take (that you could to .Tel place or where it is permitted to change the code in the banner)?

    Mark Kolb (Kprobe)04-26-2012 02:38 PM

@serg there are some very high paying CPC terms for bookmaker. You should expand your site big time. If you want to use Bulk Import I can give you a sample of what you can expect.

    Thank you Mark!
I know, Adsense sites are not - why such sites have the problem of monetization. I wanted to make a directory on the web site, affiliate theme a lot. Faced with the fact that almost everywhere you can not (disabled) code to change banners. The problem with monetization .Tel through the affiliate program known to all.

    dottel.net04-26-2012 03:21 PM

google does indeed support gambling ads.

Here's my Goals Betting site with google adsense running.

NOTE: you CANNOT combine adsense and gambling affiliate programs. If you run any gambling affiliate links on your site while serving gambling ads through google, your adsense account with be flagged and blocked.

    Now understand nuance.
So, if you remove the affiliate program and do not put links to such sites, you can set the Adsense? - It's good!
But it still does not dare to put, why leave until the affiliate.

Think about it some time to develop a site that is still the first half of the year the site should stand in the index, to actively promote in search engines new sites useless.

Thank you for the support, we have big plans for it.

It will allow you to be an Advertiser for your .TEL domains or/and a Publisher of both
affiliate programs and other .TEL advertisers.

So, say you have a local Business -

They get their .TEL and a TELmercial video for their .TEL domain and their .TEL looks great.

Only now they want to spread the word about their .TEL domain, so they do so wherever.

Well, I believe "wherever" should also include those other .TEL owners in the area who
would like to partner with them to earn a share per click or impressions, instead of just
Adsense displayed ads. This keeps the .TEL community as a vertical effort with Ads.

If all goes according to plan, .TEL may have this advertising platform available in the future.

As for geo-targeting, yes, down to the postal code, with campaigns as you desire.

We hope to provide language support, how extensive is to be determined.

    telrific04-27-2012 05:52 AM

Wanted to also mention that the user interface is a complete platform
with support for Advertisers and Publishers to manage ad uploads and reports.

    Well,

I was the guy who picked up the following at Dynadot.

    Smartphone.tel
    Cards.tel
    Foreclosure.tel
    Rate.tel.

I am not sure how things will proceed between the original platform and the new Telnames, but I believe that domains like the ones here have to have a future.

    Any thoughts appreciated!

    Michael

    dottel.net04-29-2012 05:26 PM

in my view, the pick of your buys was smartphone.
a great buy, am amazed it went so cheap considering:
    1. the price smartphones went for
    2. the fact that the singular is more searched (has a higher keyword tool stats)
    3. its a great name considering the .tel extension

i honestly thought the same buyer had bought both smartphone and smartphones last night.

    Mark Kolb (Kprobe)04-29-2012 05:33 PM

Yes I didnt understand the focus on smartphones and I was 2nd highest bidder on smartphone, just couldn't get that last proxy bid in quick enough while managing three other bids.
    Mark

    Michael04-29-2012 05:35 PM

    Thank you,

I am very pleased to have smartphone.tel and was also bidding on smartphones.tel, but had to decide to try for both or go for cards.tel. So the trade off for me was to either have both try to pick up smartphone.tel and cards.tel. Seems to me cards.tel offers great possibility also.

I think Public.tel was a nice pick up.

    Michael

    dottel.net04-29-2012 05:39 PM

Thanks, well i guess i will be holding on to it as well then. have already been offered by a few people but looking at manila.

    70% are educated
    70% are on facebook
more than 30% have mobile access to internet so why would it fail if the SEO is good.

    Tshirts.tel

Picked up http://Tshirts.tel yesterday - also picked up http://CustomTshirts.tel a while ago - so need to sort out populating and monetisation on both of these in the next few days.

nice, hope it turns out good.

alot of people are pickup up .tel even though they don't feel like bothering with it.

just like i picked up Rank.tel ( sounds funny ) but looking at potential if i could rank
someone on google that for sure rank.tel was a good buy.

if you can make your money form .tel apart form the adsense or banner ads then for
sure .tel is working for you.

http://Hire.tel was an excellent catch - according to dottel.net's historical sales figures it's the second most valuable .tel sold ever - fetching $3,000 at Sedo in April 2009 - see http://www.dottel.net/historical-dot-tel-sales#sales

Well done - now you just need to add value to it and resell for greater than $3K !

Thanks, hopefully in the near future. currently i am utilizing all my effort on .tel for my business which is promoting me not anything to do with any generics or geo.

but hopefully hire.tel should do well considering the amount of searches.

    Picked up Agriculture recently

    mikeseaton05-09-2012 10:20 PM

    @Simon

How do you intend to monetise http://Agriculture.tel ?

13,600,000 Global Monthly searches on Google gives you a lot of options !

    Simon G05-10-2012 12:26 PM

Mike either as a UK Agriculture directory or as a single page contact for another domain I have. (pm sent)

If anyone is interested I have cancelled a few back orders at domain monster.
    These are:
    oil
    montecarlo

They are available to back order just now.

when looking at google searches, always use the exact figure.
it's still an impressive 165k giving plenty of options for development.

Agreed and I always consider what it is at a country level if its use with in that region.
But for Scotland alone these facts stand
-65,000 people are directly employed in agriculture in Scotland
-Scottish Agriculture produces output worth around £2.3 billion a year

Its the industry I work in so its got significant value to me.

If Scottish agriculture is doing half as well as farming in Ireland right now which is also making huge inroads into China you definitely have a winner.
I've got farmmachinery.tel altough I don't know the first thing about the agri world - but where there's muck there's luck!

Well done Mark (I wasn't playing on Friday) - http://Oil.tel is just about up with http://FX.tel in worldwide business domination possibilities !

Now the task is making sure the world knows about and desires .tel - no point in having something for sale if no-one knows about it or wants it !

I am just wondering who is going to undertake this essential worldwide marketing of .tel - and when ?

Got journalist.tel on a drop just last week and populating using Mark's TelMasters Tools

I would urge tel domain owners to give a little thought to populating their domains using these tools.

You can earn a little AdSense cash, help pay for domain renewals, and showcase .Tel.
