Telnames Generic Domains Empty Telnames Generic Domains

Post by mikeseaton 2012-08-12, 11:19 am

Here's a recently registered example of a Telnames domain which manages to be both a generic keyword term and also forms part of the company's name.

    http://Snaps.tel - registered 2 days ago (see http://www.easywhois.com/?domain=snaps.tel)

    Here's another Telnames Generic domain:

    http://HolidayCottages.tel - registered 1 day ago (see http://www.easywhois.com/?domain=holidaycottages.tel)

Generic domains usually work well with the Telnames format - not so sure about Geos though with just a single page available ?

Those are good ones. Surprising that names like this are still available.

There are a lot of good generics still available or being dropped - many domain investors are letting all but their premium .tels drop in the absence of worldwide marketing of .tel actually happening.

After 3.5 years waiting for this worldwide marketing to happen they have taken a pragmatic view of the current situation.

Let all but your best .tels drop and you can probably re-register 80-90% of these in the future should .tel finally reach the masses.

If Telnic/Telnames gets its marketing act together and "Joe Public" desires and register .tels then I expect a lot of re-registration to take place of these dropped .tels.

In the meanwhile domain investors are saving a substantial amount on .tel renewal fees by adopting this approach - probably using this saved money to invest in the massive number of new .gTLDs that are coming onstream soon !

    I Agree.

In 2010 when I was looking for some domains to register and use, they were all not available... and unused.

Now I find a lot of domains dropped and free to register (and I've taken three) and maybe I can recommend some to friends.

Unfortunately, in the meantime, with 90% of domains taken and unused, the .tels got a bad reputation.

In Italy .tels are virtually unknown and I've seen very few sites well made and useful.

It's a great opportunity for late entrants.

Should .tel become a success, it's not too late for people to join!

They don't have a bad reputation; they don't have any reputation at all, since they are completely unknown!
But speaking about they are unused, 90 % of all domains are unused, doesn't matter if .com, .net or .tel. Most domains are only parked.

Unfortunately .tel does not offer a "Parked Domain" facility - and because of Telnic's nameserver restrictions it is not possible for a company like http://www.Sedo.com (the world's largest domain marketplace) to offer one either !
