The situation about .tel is clear!
Most employees have left Telnic, development has stopped completely long ago, sales are continuing to go down strongly and Telnic is struggling with financials:

In this situation, there can be no doubt that Telnic can't continue in its present form.

Yes, it's been clear for some time that Telnic isn't viable. The question is whether .tel will continue to exist.

    It doesn't look good.

This is bad news for owners of bulk TELs - for ones who has >1000 TELs.

Prior to this news they could act in accordance with the voice of common sense and reduce their portfolio to a reasonable size. Now, with arousal of a hope that something could change, the voice of common sense once again could be muffled by the voice of greed. ; )

But strangely registration numbers are quite static. Odd.

Most of the about 50 daily registrations come through the 131 registrars: http://telnic.org/get-started-buy.html
It's no surprise that this big network generates registrations by new customers who never heard about .tel and don't know what .tel is.
But one year later those registrations get dropped as it's usually the case with .tel (after the registrants learned that's not possible to build a website with .tel).
