The Tel template, while being ‘cute’ would not attract and keep more than a couple of thousand users. The last few years have shown that people are just not impressed, even if they get free Tel sites from Directory companies. There are numerous mobile-site builders offering feature-rich, powerful, multi-page (or unlimited pages) mobile sites at a very cheap price. Most small businesses are quite satisfied with their Facebook account which allows them to showcase their service, get social with their users, promote specific posts (boost), and get deep business intelligence. I have tried selling Telnames sites to small business people and invariably they look at it with a shrug. Even when they register they do not keep it after the first year. The TEL template is good only as an option.
The only way for TEL to survive would be to offer cheap (domain only) registrations.
However to kick-start TEL again, they would need to come very cheap, and like other registrars offering other TLD’s, go as low as $3 or $4 for new registrations and for renewals, or even cheaper.
In addition to this they absolutely have to invest in promotion. They should understand, you advertise or you die. In today’s tech world, you stand up and make noise or you crawl into a hole and disappear.
The development of ‘communication’ websites (as against current informational-sites) would be something they could encourage. Comm sites could be the next big wave in the industry. A comm site is a company site dedicated to making B2C, C2B, B2B, Inter-B, Emp 2 Emp, etc. communications easy and slick.
One suggestion to Telnic is to offer cash prizes for “best company communication portal’ site. TEL is an ideal fit for branding comm. sites.
No amount of talk or wishful thinking would help TEL. Only the building of real niche websites and promotion will work.
