From a domain investors point of view there is one outstanding new gTLD .taxi - imagine the value that could be attached to a domain like http://London.taxi !
Interesting times lie ahead for domain investors and software developers - maybe we will remember the .tel project as just a bad dream ?
One thing I will be looking out for when considering which of the new gTLDS will succeed or fail is whether they have enlisted the services of http://RightOfTheDot.com - the founders Monte Cahn and Michael Berkens (http://rightofthedot.com/about) have a track record of successful mass marketing of domains.
I have suggested to Telnic that they should call upon their services to help re-invigorate the .tel extension - but to no avail !
