If we carry watches instead of phones in the future, then the small screens have only place for a .tel on it - but not for .com!

I'd prefer a communications badge that did the processing for all my other life "tools" than a watch with a screen, I guess if you slap a screen on anything it's oooh shiny for the so called "trendy" people to buy but not really practical as arms wack things and then things get broken and unless it's bullet proof or carbon nano tube at 1mm thick I can't see it being practical as a long term device, I only see it as a way for apple to make money off the insurance companies for repairs disguised as innovation much like they make money off customers only adding pathetic upgrades every so called innovation release (ex founder even said so, falling behind in features).

I like the artists impression or what ever it is but as peoples arms are going every which way it wont take much to damage it at least with a full mobile you're spatially aware of what you're doing with the device, while with a watch you'll take risks as you take it for granted when you forget its there and only apple will profit via the replacements and insurance, not to mention it will be a massive danger issue like using it in the car take one look at it on your wrist and guess what? over a cliff or in a ditch.

What about when it vibrates? and distracts you doing something delicate? what about the long term effects of vibrations on your wrists? if you can get health issues from power tools, then you can get health issues from over vibrating items and I'm not talking about pleasure tools, a watch like that used by a mobile so called "trendy" person or teen will get overused if you like it or not as it goes off time and time again, and what about studies about mobiles vs brains? how about skin vs constant close contact with the watch? it has to give off small amounts of radiation to make calls so it could give you skin cancer.

Back to cars it's called hands free for a reason (out the way while you focus on driving) plenty of people have fidgeted with mobiles and died and with a watch many more will take risks not just in cars but walking around into doors, crossing sidewalks etc.

Though while I get the point of having mobile apps and being all forward looking, it just seems a massive problem waiting to happen if we're 20 years in the future and all sidewalks and cars are all self drive smart systems so phones auto goto voice mail if you're crossing the road and the same with cars if you're driving, then I see it as an essencial upgrade to life but right now it's seems a big danger not just to the unit itself but to people using it and what if it leaks hot battery acid? or just over heats and gives a 3rd degree burn? remember how the frog cooks? slow untill it's too late and finds itself boiled dead.

As for its application with tel, tel is DNS so we dont even need a screen which is the point of tel in the long run, the nice telnames we have now really is only sugar coating for the networking behind it, as no one would buy into just adding data to the DNS as theres nothing to show for it other than calls if the correct networking tools were developed. And we all know how customers only buy nice things right? well this is a nice watch but thats about all it is right now, once people figure out how many problems it can cause it becomes defunked as an idea, and if not? then laws would have to change to implement more saftey and the USA will never do that its so corrupt its mind boggling how it can get away with it any longer.

But that said I think its a nice watch and apple is ok as a brand but I would not call it something to herald its something that requires more thought and social implementation to make sure its safe and the world can react to it as people go about their business to prevent some of the issues that could occur but more than likely apple will just ignore all that and expect others to deal with it after people have accidents just to roll out another way to scalp people.

They all ready have enough money in the bank, more than the US gov how much more do they need? talk about greed.

The point I'm trying to make is while Ipod and Iphone changed the world and how we expect things to work, this is a step to far forward during an eccnomic down turn theres no money to implement smart saftey networks and things, Too far too soon they should wait until we have hyper smart cities.

As a notification alert tool, it will be perfect. Some buzzing, some small txt clip, just an alert tool.

If its an incoming iphone call (the watch notifies you about), or perhaps it does some small voice data capture and on-sends it to your nearby iPhone for processing, SIRI takes over from there etc.

It's the reduction in reaching for the iPhone that will make watches a key player. Not only that its already almost at your fingertip which could be perfect for that "near-field" communications market (and again on-sends intensive interaction to your nearby iPhone in your bag or pocket)

May be for companion Watch , or for smart watches, the intersection point for VAR about .TEL is the DYI branding, or the sponsored Branding of the Bluetooth SSIDs or the WIFI SSIDs of smart Watches, wristbands, to enable opt in/opt out further marketing impulse >>  www.SSIDs.TEL .

Same background scenario like branding WIFI Wireless names of WIFI routers with your dot TEL domain name , instead of stupid tags like the_FBI_van , or mine_is_nicer_yours , or dumb budda_bar_nyc , or  hi_this_is_John from mobile phones or smartphone Bluetooth or Wifi SSIDs flocking into a large conference hall.
Human users, at least by human curiosity, will try to reach alternatively www.JoePublic.TEL or  www.WirelessInternet.tel by preliminary alternative route , to verify if it looks like the safe amenity wifi spot or a friendly blueetooth connection they can engage with, and not a foe or obscure unknown wifi honey (s)pot .
If this SSID is branded with www.yourbusiness.tel under Telnames featured .tel , they can get latest offers, coupons, mobile (paypal) payment mean for pre payment, etc etc , of bare .TEL with public keys in the public data area, and access to private directory of secret tokens in labelled very private drawers within the private Telfriends area.
Through human search within local radio range for recognition of a known... Wireless name !
Tomorrow mobile apps will to that randomly, and even prompt the user to engage into a more appealling Wireless name than another. Than what nicer than a structured data in the DNS dot TEL domain, with collection of public of privte tokens for opt in or opt out push marketing ?

It is also coming slowly to the point on the other hand , because of the salvatory present bypass from "Internet of Things" towards "Internet of mobile objects"  (mobile object passing by beacons, whether paypal or apple beacons in Malls, whether indoor beacons or garage beacons for home automation or home protection, whether DIY or third party beacons based on arduino or raspberry) ,

while Mobile objects being, guess what ...
Smartphones, (physical keys) ringholders, companion watches, smart wristbands etc , all with connectivity/identification layer granted by  ... still untapped SSIDs !!!

BTW did you start branding your office WIFI router , or your own bluetooth SSIDs with your best dot tel url ?
Why not having you car wifi SSID, all your other your SSIDs tagged with your dot TELs, and promoting your mobile ready dot TEL dn everywhere you go, or your fleet goes, or whithin your outlet network footprint for street Bluetooth or street wifi marketing....?

Just give it a try on your own, and of course as soon as you get a smart Watch or a smart wristband , self promote your TELs throught them....

Already Millions of beacons are on their way to ... read you/your smartphone ( alt. your mind ... for those happy reminders of  Alan Parson 's Project ;+)

What If An iWatch Replaced Most Of The iPhone's Functions? Empty Shopping with beacons & wifi marketing ? branding SSIDs with dot TEL dn for further focal entry point mobile discovery

Post by TELwax 2014-03-20, 2:41 pm

( added to previous post ).../...

and for those who digged into it, the upcoming trend IS proximal identity as a collateral effect to tremendous on going push from the sudden tightening necklace "mobile marketing+digital advertising + mobile payment + shopping with beacons + control of last mile of commerce through retargetting local shopping towards affiliated-only local shops " boiling sphere. From Paypal but not only, and also from Large Shopping Centers operators.

Whether the .TEL Registry will catch it or not through smart partnerships with integrators and prime players in right time is beyond any possibilities to foresee presently, and we all know the track record so far.

However, just do it yourself at your level branding your WIFI/Bluetooth SSIDs with your own dot TELs , and let's  see ... ;+)
