The Global Name Registry, Limited was the operator of the .name top-level domain for individuals' names as delegated by ICANN on August 1, 2001.

The company focused on digital identity and .name as a core part of providing individuals worldwide with personal, memorable digital identities. Global Name Registry offered two core products: a personalized email address with forwarding capabilities, and a personalized domain name.

The Global Name Registry launched .name in 2002.

VeriSign, Inc., acquired Global Name Registry in late 2008 and ICANN approved the reassignment of the .name TLD to VeriSign in early 2009.

Be interesting to see who wants to acquire Telnic Ltd (and its 100% owned subsidiary Telnames Ltd) when the last of the $35,000,000 shareholder investment finally runs out.

In the internet world your company can be an attractive takeover target if you are:

    Small & Profitable
    or
Big (tens of millions of users) & Unprofitable

The problem of course is if you are both Small & Unprofitable !

Even better, because then you are an easy and cheap target.
The longer the potential buyer waits, the lower the price will be.
And after that it'll be an easy job to make it better than Telnic who made mistake after mistake during the last years.

@Toptel - very true - it often happens in the UK that a buyer in such a situation only has to pay a nominal £1 to take over a company that is a constant loss-maker !

The number of Telnames .Tels indexed by Google is 6,680 - see https://www.google.com/search?hl=en&source=hp&q=site%3A.tel+%22powered+by+Telnames.com%22&gbv=2&oq=site%3A.tel+%22powered+by+Telnames.com%22

Just checked the above links and today 11 May shows  Total .Tel Registrations now down to 139,955 AND Telnames indexed domains down as well to 6,670.

So maybe the theory that Telnames single-page .tels are gaining in net (ie. new less dropped) registrations every day to at least partially compensate for the rapidly failing Telnic subdomain .tels is not actually true ?

Regardless of this, 6,670 indexed Telnames domains (we all know Telnic .tel domains are no longer being promoted or developed) is APPALLING after a $35,000,000 investment - it works out at $5,247 per indexed Telnames  domain !

PS. Here's my contribution to the emergency meeting Telnic/Telnames should be having tomorrow !

I thought regicide was killing a king. Telnic have reinvented the word. Now it's deliberately destroying your registration numbers - regi-cide!

Telnic doesn't want to be successful. You can't help them!
