.bit is a domain that was created outside of the most commonly used domain name system of the Internet and is not sanctioned by ICANN. The .bit domain is served via the Namecoin infrastructure, which acts as an alternative, decentralized domain name system.

The current number of .bit domains is 133482.

Use of the .bit domain requires a copy of the Namecoin blockchain, a supporting public DNS server, or a plug-in. For a full list of methods see the dot bit website.

    Namecoin Decentralized DNS Research

The .bit TLD is the decentralized peer to peer namespace for Namecoin. To access domains in this space you need to provide your OS configuration details so they can find a DNS Server which is hosting the .bit zone. You can also pass your requests through a proxy, etc.

Just a wee pointer as English may not be your mother language. It's number of domains not amount. We use amount for things that are not obviously discrete like amount of sugar, amount of water, amount of blood etc. We use number for number of cars, number of houses, number of people, number of domains etc. Cheers.
