Telnic/Telnames have explained their strategy and the future direction of .Tel in a post dated June 28 at http://tel-names.tumblr.com

A couple of interesting quotes from this:

Firstly, we’ve simplified the product and the distribution...
The last thing they want to link to is a heavy multi-page web site...
Do registrars currently selling multi-page subdomain based .tels have much of a future in the new .tel world outlined in the article ?

Mike, I can follow your argument, but I guess you take the words from Telnames too literally.

We've to consider that blog is written for marketing purposes. The targeted prospects for it are newbies. I don't believe we can conclude intentions for future software development from this.

I actually don't think there will be much in the way of significant software development by Telnic/Telnames in the future, at least not as far as templates are concerned.

The Telnames template as shown by http://YourBusiness.tel is effectively a finished product - they have stressed how their objective is simplification not additional features.

Only 1 of the 8 items planned by Telnic for completion by 30 June 2011 re the original templates has so far been delivered - see http://www.teltalk.org/t145-the-long-lost-tel-roadmap-uncovered - given that this deadline passed 12 months ago it doesn't look like there is any priority there.

My guess is that Telnic/Telnames will now focus on marketing the single page image/video based template - they recently recruited a new staff member http://MarkEllis.tel to help with this.

Effective worldwide marketing is what .tel has been lacking for years - so I wish them well with that - I just hope it doesn't turn out to be "Too Little, Too Late" !

This is the strangest business I have ever dealt with. How can they sit on their hands will the world beats their door down asking questions?

Surely they are working on something; they are just not willing to tell us!
It's the same strategy like the one from Apple, only with two differences: Apple is successful and they announce events where they reveal their inventions.

Rambo, do you still believe they are "working on something" - it's been 3.5 months since your post ?

If I say my opinion, Teltalk will be mad at me again that I’m not nice to Telnic. Anyway frankly spoken Telnic is a complete mystery to me. I don’t know why it took years to launch the last 3 templates and why it takes more than 1 week to launch background pictures for Telnic and many other improvements.
Telnic always need an eternity to realize the smallest improvements.
Just after dismissing the bold request from many members for the increase of number of pictures on a .tel, again a new discussion (about a very old and already known topic from the past) is going on at Telnic about if a web link from a .tel should open in a new or the same browser window. I promise you it will take years again until we see results for this!
I really have no clue what these guys are doing in the office in London meanwhile.
Is anybody still wondering why .tel doesn’t gain any popularity?
As somebody said before they are sitting on gold and don’t know what to do with it!

You haven’t understood anything from the comments from Alex, Dan, Fustachio, Mark and Mike, right?

First the product at Telnic doesn’t get developed anymore, because the work happens only for Telnames from now on.
Second by trying to force Telnic to do what you want, they feel to cooperate with you even less.
Third in case you hold your own .tels, you should be interested in positive marketing and not in complaining about old stories which are history.

I don’t want to make positive marketing as long the only software developer doesn’t develop, doesn’t keep its promises, ignores all wishes from its customers, doesn't make any marketing itself, isn't reachable for statements and is busy with a different project for another company that provides nothing to the original customers.

    It’s not right that
    the customers of
    Telnic only keep quiet,
    because it could harm
    the reputation of Telnic.

    If Telnic don’t serve
    their customers, they
    need to bear listing to
    their opinion.

    Perhaps they feel more
    comfortable to cooperate
    with ICANN.
    We'll see soon!
