Sorting of search results on Telpages Empty Sorting of search results on Telpages

Post by Tim Spears 2013-01-28, 7:01 pm

If a search term is included in a .tel domain name or in a subdomain, it will be displayed always before any other words from the content of another .tel (like header, text or keywords) on Telpages. This way my .tel will appear in the search results from Telpages only at the end if I don't own the keyword domain for a search term or I don't use subdomains.
It is important to know that for every search term I want to be found with at Telpages I have to create a subdomain. Unfortunately this is very uncomfortable, because it forces me to create subdomains for many words even if I don't want.

All .tels not intended to be a directory have a handicap, as example if a .tel was created as business profile or business card only. For Telnames it is not even possible to create subdomains.
If a business owner didn't choose his company name AND his industry name AND the product he is selling, it will be very difficult for him to be found on Telpages. How this problem can be solved?

its a quandary, because the telnames.tels are designed as "just what you need, and nothing that you don't" ...something along those lines.

so, perhaps telnames will include an option in the "settings" control panel that keeps SEO to a very controlled simple interface addition. Might ask "...and what five keywords or phrases best describes your business?" ...and then the system will automagically create 5 subdomains for that telname (resultant pages to then simply link thru to the main page, nothing more)

    ps side info
telnic.tels (pro.tels) were probably already considered as TOO AWKWARD for the masses of real people/businesses to fiddle with (and lets not forget the 99% domainers that railroaded the original .tel concept)

without doubt telnames' concept is keep it simple, do it very cleanly, elegantly. (and why not? this is how apple went from nothing (but complete simplicity) at iphone-1 days to eventually worlds largest company) ...hang on though, apple is screwing it up now because its morphing into this bloated feature laden whatever (actually TOO HARD to use apple stuff anymore)

As long Google dominates the search market, it would be more important to concentrate on good positioning there.

It looks like some people missed your point !

The only solution for Telpages is to list on the Top Level (1st page only) for Telnames and old .tel domains.

This way only serious registrants are discovered by Title, Domain, Header.

If I can register a single old domain and put 250,000 subdomains with names and keywords that block out all the other serious registrants, then Telpages is useless. ( As it is now. )

Subdomains have ruined Telpages, so of course no one uses it, it's pointless.

Registrants that register a domain and populate it themselves is the point.

A Telnames directory is needed alone, or clean up Telpages with Top page only entries.

"search this .tel" self-serving directories use the telpages subdomain search system with great success. its a critical tool that such directories promote, count on. so any change to the underlying system must take into consideration the existing user base.

perhaps telpages general search (telpages.com website portal) could perform differently (in the way @goTel suggests) but only when "search across all .tels" is specifically designated as the function.

firstly, could filter appropriately to top level only
secondly, searches entire top level page content
third, throw out all empty domainers pages
fourth, ...shows a nice icon, etc etc

'Search this .tel' is for the domain itself, not the directory people want and use everyday.

Google is for searching any content, Yellow/White pages is for searching profiles and links.

Telpages is being used like Google, so it's useless.

You don't promote yourself as a Yellow/White pages and show results like Google, it's useless to Registrants and Users.

Search this .tel makes sense, after Telpages gets you to the 1st page of a domain.

Search all .tel's makes sense, as long as subdomains are not the results !

This is pretty much just as you suggested, so at least there is a consensus !
