Thanks to the Telnic team for the folder rename feature.

    tony mayo09-23-2009 07:35 PM

    Well done, everyone at Telnic.
Folder re-name feature will be a big help.

updates to Hanoi.tel using new telhosting

I see that the telhosting platform is updated and domainmonster telhosting seems to be working well. see www.HANOI.tel

I personally appreciate the header text update and can see that the Team at Telnic is diligent.

thank you, have a great day-

    RonMunson09-24-2009 08:16 AM

An example of a simple change that makes a HUGE difference.

    Shahid09-24-2009 08:40 AM

Happy to hear about the renaming folder, i had 2 folders in aids.tel

Northamerica and Southamerica which didnt look that good since it
was 2 words with help of renaming no sub folders within have been
effected and works great, i noticed telhosting is much faster now and
the header will not only differentiate between pages but also help in
seo if i m not wrong..

    Thank you telnic

    2.82 Update released

We've released an update to your control panel today with the following enhancements:

    • Backup feature for a selected .tel domain or all data in your account; export all contact information, groups and privacy settings, into an XML file and import later as needed
    • Longer descriptions for contact items; new descriptions show on a new line, can be up to 255 bytes long, and support any language (UTF encoding)
    • Custom text to replace "Go to" text for links to folders and other domains; add a Description to your go-to link, and it'll show instead of 'Go to' on your .tel page

    Your feedback is appreciated.

    TelHosting Updates

Is anyone else having trouble with the new labels staying in place? I seem to get a different look every time I go to look at my site.

I assume that this is due to the fact that the upgrade is only hours old. I will check again tomorrow.

    Shahid10-27-2009 09:50 PM

    Hello Nadya,

Thank you for the update on telhosting.

just worked on my www.shahid.tel let me know what you think or others who come to read here i applied the last 2 and also took backup for my self, what i would like to see is a few more changes if possible in next one.

    1) the Location ( Rename-able to like Find me or Find us )
    2) the backup option should also have an option to backup and restore on another domain also the same as lets say if i make a tree of directory how i want and i want to use it on all it will not only same time but also in future it will help developers build directory massively it will be good to share it or atleast help them make money and it can help the ones who buy it and save time.

just a thought but i know it can help domainers who have huge number of .tel like my self build directories easily and it will also look populated faster.

more over if telnic or other developers can make demo directories for people who no knowledge of how to build one it will help them and build interest and many .tel will be populated that way and they can customize it according to their needs in future.

    Thanks

    Shahid

    Shahid10-27-2009 09:52 PM

I just updated mine, i think when you upload the data on labeling it plays around with the internet codes alot and at one point goes blank then comes back to realty and the information is in front of you.

i had a hard time looking at shahid.tel it wouldn't load now it did and looks perfect.

    Thanks

    Shahid10-27-2009 10:00 PM

There is some Glitch in the new update the information on the labeling is being mixed up or sometime it doesnt even show the labeling for some reason please try to look into it

    Hi Nadya,

It would be nice to see the above idea extended to the Web entry, so that instead of the current setup of the word "Web" followed by the description in brackets in a small grey case, the word "Web" was actually replaced by the description - it would make the link to a web page more noticeable.

If you look at the "Emma.tel" video at http://www.telnic.com/individual-movie.html (stop at 1min 40sec) you will see that is how Telnic originally planned it i.e. instead of the word "Web" you have the description "Myspace page".

Could this be added into a future release?

Shahid, Triton NW, are you still seeing issues with the update?

    Thanks,

looks fine right now, i refreshed it a few times might try it after a few hours incase the issue is still there will notify you.

As I remember you were planning custom text for the LINKS (Custom text for subdomain) earlier.
With the possibility to turn off "Go to"s it would be more better than now.

This would also be big for search engine optimization as the text we put for the link will tell google what the page we are pointing to.

No problem. There are many people on this forum that don't like the fact that I'm sharing search engine secrets.

The way I look at it is that if I can share what I know and it helps get Dot Tel more exposure on the internet, the more likely it will do well.

You know the saying 'Content is King'. This is the real secret to sem. The best advice I could give anyone over all of the things I have shared to date. It is soooo true.

You can't beat quality content in your dot tel! Make it rich with interesting stuff and the people will come, links will point and search engines will reward.

RonMunson, you are a specialist of SEO, may be you can give us some ideas about relation between outgoing links from Tel-domain and Google indexation ?

    Maximka,

We would love to hear from the SEO experts on the below. Tips are always welcome.

As for the russian search engine (Yandex), i noticed in my stats that it pings (not sure if it is the right words) my domain names a lot or could be that people are accessing it a lot from russia. Any idea about it maximka?

    pings = scrawls ?
Yandex's robot scrawls tel-domains? I personally do not think that now in Russia many people know about TEL. May be it is robot?

I look for my TEL statistics indirectly - from the statistics from my normal com-site - to which I redirect my TELs. And there I see that TEL is more or less popular in the USA, the second places have Germany and GB. I also noticed, that from India come few times more people than from China - though these two countries have somewhere about the same population.

    _____________________________________________

Also, at the latest days I began to think that Google and Yandex do not like tel-domains with signs: "This domain is for sale", "I sell it" etc.

    Hello Telnic
It has been pretty quiet aound here for a long time. If it wasn't for JLS and Mark fighting, there would be nothing to read here. Is there ANY CHANCE that we can get an update as to what is coming in the following weeks? I know it would be appreciated by all.

    Thank you in advance

I'm busy working on converting existing Tels tools and new app ideas, but read the forum daily. Would be nice to see more positive announcements and integrations on the forum though.

We are also working on getting a couple of politicians (in different towns) to use .tel for SEO and/or myriad contact consolidation for their campaigns in the late summer and fall.

Sorry about that, the correct link for the latest releases is http://telnic.org/pop-release.html .

With regards to upcoming features, the newsletter this month showed a preview of some of the upcoming features,http://telnic.org/newsletters/dottel...html#Templates including the first templates with the retro-style proxy, and the return of the embedded search with more granularity and control. There's more going on as the Roadmap shows, but some developments take a significant amount of time in development and testing.

We're also seeing more customers setting up their .tel domains well, search results are showing a positive dynamic on Title text and other customization features. It's great to see more users being creative in sharing their contact details. If you have positive reviews to share, you're welcome to the .tel showcase thread :)

That's a nice little page thanks. Any chance of an RSS feed on that so we can be auto informed? or setting up a submit your email for telnic updates? or a mailing list like steam has? http://list.valvesoftware.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/ it would perhaps extend and help people whom are developing to be able to email back asking questions to only people whom want intrest in that.

You can further tweak forum settings to receive email updates on subscribed threads. We try and post software updates here, so you should be in the loop by following the forum. And you can ask to be added to the "New Software" updates mailing list, by ticking the box in the contact us form, http://telnic.org/contact.html.

    Blunderer05-18-2010 12:29 AM

I don't much care what it looks like.

Content and utility are more important but, to me, the unique selling point of .tel was the dedicated search engine.

It doesn't work on mobile phones.

It may appear on a new proxy page - sometime.

If you type telpages into Google you have a hard job spotting it amongst the trash clones (the text could say search for .tel sites here but it actually invites you to watch a video!)

Having a keyword search within a .tel site should relieve the pressure on the number of sub-folders required and their descriptions. When?

The game stopper for me is the lack of a functioning mobile version. If people have to resort to existing search engines to find what they want then there is no incentive to buy and use .tel domains - particularly since we all know how conventional search results can be skewd by SEO and paid promotion, and other means.

The ability to edit Go to links?

Cosmetic change should be put aside until basic functionality is achieved.

Blunderer, can you explain what you mean with the request for "The ability to edit Go to links" please?

    Thanks,

    Aled

    Blunderer05-18-2010 03:10 PM

    Hello Aled,

Please see Nadia's point at 7 above. In my view "Custom text to replace "Go to" " = cosmetic change.

I thought the object of our effort was to build worthwhile elements of a global contact directory but, without a fully functioning, and fully accessible search engine (a USP, I thought), there seems little point in even trying.

The lack of dedicated search capability within .tel is inhibiting the development of my sites and, in my opinion, inhibiting the growth and utility of the .tel domain.

We should have been in a position to SHOUT OUT that Telpages searches produce wholly productive results but we havn't been able to, and dont know when we will.

Getting Telpages on the sites, working on all mobile phones, appropriately titled on search engine results and IN THE FACE OF THE PUBLIC should be EVERYONE here's No.1 priority.

    But its not!

Blunderer is quite right, the better the search capability inside our .tels and in Telpages, then the better .tel will be.

    TelRise05-18-2010 09:40 PM

I agree with both of the above posts regarding Telpages.
The ability to search within a single dot tel will make a big difference to how some, especially directory types, can be structured and populated.

It's great that you can copy to or move to data from 'folders' (subdomains). What would be really useful is if you could move folders (subdomains) themselves around the hierarchy. This would save alot of admin time.

    Hi Nadya,

Yes. Maybe I didn't make myself clear. As easily as you can create subdomains (by way of folders), you can rename them, but you can't affect the subdomain hierarchy by way of moving folders.

Eg. if I created a subdomain 'support.hotlogic.tel' and another 'london.support.hotlogic.tel', I could not then 'move' the latter to sit at 'london.hotlogic.tel'.
    Ben.

    Hotlogic,
Thanks, I understand your point. The new interface should cater for easier navigation and management of folders eventually, but I'm not sure it'll be from the very start. There are a number of features in the pipeline that will be rolled out gradually over a period of time.
