    What did Telnic wrong?

What should Telnic have done instead?

    • Improving the .tel product
    • Enabling good SEO for .tel domains
    • Giving access to the Telnames template to all customers
    • Focusing on customer needs
    • Developing a global directory

Definitely customers should have been asked what the need was and how the product should be developed to meet this need.

The need of customers was never the focus of Telnic. Telnic was so sure to acquire many millions of customers during the first years:

Telnic must be convinced that the customers are the bad guys, because they didn't like what Telnic had to offer.

Experienced companies have a unit called "product management". Their task is to know the customers and to create a product that is accepted by them. This could be a nice idea for Telnic, too!

Telnic would never do that - it's  too obvious a way to succeed.

The reason for the failure of .tel is easily explained:
Telnic spent too little effort in developing the .tel product and instead wasted all the energy on selling the unfinished construction site of .tel.
All the presentations and visits of exhibitions have been waste of time.
Telnic had a lot of support by early adopters.
.tel only needed to be developed to become a success, but that has never happened.

mikeseaton wrote:3 MORE MISTAKES BY TELNIC/TELNAMES TO ADD TO THE LIST:

    1. Failing to heed the warnings and advice in the 2008 article at http://domainnamewire.com/2008/11/10/telnic-a-35-million-investment-gone-awry

    2. Failing to face up to their current financial reality !

    3. Failing to engage in talks with a potentially interested buyer !

IT APPEARS ALL OVER NOW FOR TELNIC'S CUSTODY OF .TEL - TOTAL REGISTRATIONS HAVE NOW FALLEN BELOW THE CRITICAL 100,000 LEVEL !

See http://registrarstats.com/TLDDomainCounts.aspx which reports for yesterday 6 July 2016:

    New Regs: 25

    Dropped: 510

    Total Regs: 99,980

How many of Telnic's Registrars (see http://www.telnic.org/registrars/list) do you think will keep offering .Tel - with it's overhead of managing/hosting the Registrar's CTH - now that active marketing seems to have ceased, most key staff have left, and .Tel can't even maintain a total of 100K registrations after 7+ years ?

It could have all been so different if Telnic had been prepared to listen to the huge wealth of experience on forums such as TelTalk and Telnic's own forum (before it closed down) - but they wouldn't listen - offer too many suggestions and they simply banned you from posting on their forum !

TELNIC ALWAYS KNEW BEST - OR SO THEY THOUGHT - BUT IT SEEMS LIKE THE DOMAIN MARKETPLACE DOESN'T AGREE WITH THEM !

This article (written in 2008 before .Tel's launch) sums up the reality so well http://domainnamewire.com/2008/11/10/telnic-a-35-million-investment-gone-awry

ENOUGH SAID - TIME TO GET BACK TO THE REAL WORLD !

They never meant it to succeed because it was intended as a scam from day one.

I believe that Telnic just don't have a clue how to run a business.
