Suspension of services Empty Suspension of services

Post by Tel 2012-07-01, 11:46 am

    What is this?

    - Deletion of roadmap one year ago
    - No blog entries after 11st January 2012
    - Failure to deliver the 3 promised new templates one year ago
    - No update of the homepage Telnic.org since one year
    - Lockdown Telnic's forum
    - No press releases since one year
    - No enhancements of .TEL domains, Telpages and Telfriends anymore
    - No support of the .TEL community anymore
    - Cancelation of all marketing
    - No responses to questions and complaints
    - Discontinuation of newsletter
    - No announcements about any of these things

Is Telnic planning to continue its services or will .TEL be shut down soon?

    This is not entirely correct!
There is still one activity left, see here!

And new activities are happening here.

It does look pretty damning when the actions, or lack of them, by Telnic are listed above !

Anyone would think Telnic had lost interest in the original multi-page subdomain based .tel templates and were now only prepared to develop/market/promote the new Telnames single-page offering !

If so, where does that leave software developers who have spent much of the last 3 years focussing on the subdomain based .tel template offering ?

Or domain investors who are trying to sell .tels (so spreading the word) populated with subdomains which are no longer available in the currently promoted .tel offering ?

Up **** creek without a paddle is the polite answer !

It seems Telnic is convinced to be able continuing their business without domain developers.
I guess this is also the reason why they shut down all communication channels, first of all the forum: Telnic was just annoyed by the criticism from owners of tel-domains.

It looks bad and we've shouted and screamed but it's not going to change a thing because I no longer think the problem is telnic, I think the problem is the world as if your up to speed on whats happening most businesses have lost the ability to get loans and investors are somewhat pulling out of risky ventures.
    ..
We may have them misunderstood on the basis they may have stopped to focus on staying solvent to take them and us beyond the banking crisis or stock pilling funds through none banking investments to stretch though this turbulent time, as we're entering an economic collapse or at what regular folk's believe is just going to be 'a bad few years' I'd also probably stop somewhat if I had foresight like that and redirect into something on a smaller scale that keeps things ticking over.
    ..
I'm sure they have contacts who whisper things in meeting rooms that only executives and investor's get to hear about the real world (not suggesting insider trading).
    ..
We all want .tel to last and I'm sure those of us here are in .tel for the long run though now with a realistic reduced portfolio but reality is the investors who back telnic and telnic themselves need a safe harbor to weather out the next 5-10 years so I'm not sure I can be completely angry anymore when I take into account the economic climate and the need for .tel to survive what ever befalls countries, cities and the globe I think telnames is a refined step to keep things going until what ever happens resolves itself and telnic can turn back on the monetary investment tap.
    ..
I'm happy to give up 30,000 records on some domains if it reduces the hosting costs over all and gives telnic an extra year of solvency until things pick up in the world.

Fustachio, That's a realistic point of view! As much I understand the anger from domain investors, the complaints won't change much. Telnic has shown they follow their own plans and their staff neither wants help from outside nor accepts advices!
On the other hand the changeover of resources from Telnic to Telnames shows the willingness to try different strategies, too!
In difficult times it is understandable that former plans need to be adjusted, too!
Therefore the major point of criticism is Telnic got a lot of help from external domain developers (like Mark, Mike and many more), but even they haven’t got any kind of information about the occurred changes.

I can understand Telnic’s reaction. After domain buyers are not satisfied with the performance of TEL they have started to complain and not much good feedback has been seen anymore. Telnic realized that every communication along this way doesn’t bring valuable marketing.
The conclusion was we have got the same service from Telnic now which we get from every other registry, too. But because of the high amount of marketing in 2009 and 2010 people just complain because of the reduction in activity in this area.

Fortunately the product itself gives enough opportunity to create different ways of distribution as we just have seen with the new product by Telnames. It took them one year to develop a new product which is finalized now.

Perhaps in one year we will see something new again since resources will be available for new ideas now.
