It certainly looks like it, judging by the tweet and Telnames non-denial response !

Those of Telnames need to invent something to sell some more domains.
It's from March that the number of new registrations is dropping.
In Italy telemarketing is a plague. Luckily Telnames sells only in the UK!

Telnames don't have to do any marketing at all. If Telnames would deliver a product everyone likes, viral marketing can accomplish much more.

It worked OK to get Facebook established - but then Facebook accounts are FREE !Tim Spears wrote:Telnames don't have to do any marketing at all. If Telnames would deliver a product everyone likes, viral marketing can accomplish much more.

Telnic won't adjust the business model.mikeseaton wrote:It worked OK to get Facebook established - but then Facebook accounts are FREE !
Telnic rather sticks to only 100,000 registered domains or less in the future than giving domains away for free to get famous!

What a great idea: give one .tel to every individual for free (with the prohibition to register more than one for free) and charge only businesses.

Telnic is resistant to suggestions.

Amazing foresight from way back in 2008 !Toptel wrote:Where I have read that before?krhgt wrote:What a great idea: give one .tel to every individual for free (with the prohibition to register more than one for free) and charge only businesses.

Here's a quote from it:
When reading http://domainnamewire.com/2008/11/10/telnic-a-35-million-investment-gone-awry/ make sure you check out the the comments at the end. There is a chance — however slight — that .tel will succeed. Telnic will have to do a few things perfectly to get this to work. First, make .tel integrate into third party applications better than Plaxo, LinkedIn, Facebook, and MySpace currently do. Second, it should give away .tel domains to individuals and hope to make money on businesses instead. It must get to critical mass quickly, so that I have a reasonable belief that typing in myfriend.tel will get me what I want. Third, it needs to pray that Facebook doesn’t kill it overnight by creating some sort of online vcard.
