TelBlogger wrote:Specifically if the DNS was opened up for .tel what could be done on a .tel website compared to a .com?
The main difference is that .tel does not accept A-records with IP addresses pointing to machines hosting websites.
Technically it would be possible, but Telnic does everything to prevent this.
Therefore everything needs to be programmed new only for .tel, but I don't see a technical limitation to do this.
The main problem is that Telnic doesn't give permission to make adjustments. So far only the Chinese registrars have tried it out.
TelBlogger wrote:Could the .tel cover a whole computer page rather than the current naked offering?
Since a redirect is prevented by Telnic, basically the data of computer page items must be stored inside of the DNS.
That makes the programming a little bit more complicated (because developers can't use known tools), but it's no problem to create all imaginable tools for a comprehensive website.
Good examples for how it could work are the Chinese .tel domains:
http://www.teltalk.org/t1367-all-registered-tels-at-novaltelBut Telnames found another way: pictures, wallpapers and PDF files are stored on the servers of Telnames.com (not in the DNS).
TelBlogger wrote:Could all kinds of content be added?
Sure; two possibilities:
By framing you can add components from resources outside the DNS.
New components can be added easily in the standard template (like Telnames and 91ums.com did). It's no problem to create many more elements.
TelBlogger wrote:Could the telhosting control panel be changed to allow drag and drop of content and text style options etc?
Of course; you can drag and drop contact entries since 2009. It's no problem to include drag and drop for other elements in the same way.
And only a simple editor needs to be provided for text styling.
TelBlogger wrote:Would the resulting website have a faster load time than a .com with the same content?
From my experience I'm convinced the loading time today for .tel as we know it isn't faster in comparison with a .com.
The more elements would be added like at 91ums.com, the less differences between a .tel and a .com would exist.
