@247 - I remember that Telnic forum conversation with Justin Hayward

I wasn't asking for investment advice, as Justin implies, just an explanation as to what was going on with the .tel project - I felt that the "ecosystem" (developers, domainers, registrars, users) deserved that, given the time and money they had already invested.

As can be seen Justin, on behalf of Telnic, did not see the need to keep interested parties informed and on board - even the Roadmap disappeared !

I eventually got permanently banned from Telnic's forum when I refused to toe the "party line" and insisted on speaking the truth about a very unsatisfactory situation that had developed as a result of actions Telnic had taken on the .tel project !

The conclusion is clear: dump your .tels because in its current form it is clearly the very worst of all the many domain extensions available.

The post is a timely reminder for those thinking of renewing in the coming weeks and months. You will be pouring your money down the toilet. Instead find a real extension.

Although I, like most other .tel developers/domainers, have dropped a large number of .tel domains in my portfolio, there is an alternative strategy to completely abandoning the investment forum members have made in the .tel project.

Justin Hayward hasn't understood that part of a successful company is more than just waiting for serendipity to strike. But nowadays it isn't easy to find employees deeply committed to business targets.

Telnic actually believe - and clearly say so on their web site - that they have created the The World's Only Real-Time Global Directory !

What can you do when faced with such an absurd official statement ?

Justin Hayward shows indeed no signs of activity:

    Justin Hayward on 09-14-2011 wrote:Mike

You obviously think we have been sitting on our hands for two and a half years. Quite frankly, that is an extremely derogatory comment to the people that work here.

What you seem to have overlooked is that there are a lot of moving parts when it comes to doing deals with .tel. Some of these are out of our control.

An example. Last year we had a very positive reaction from a major European high street retailer of mobile phones who was looking to integrate the .tel offer into their web offering. They loved the product, saw a good fit and liked the apps we had developed. However, when it came to the crunch, the registrar they were looking to work with let the whole thing down with the purchase process, and interest went dead. Will we get a second chance? I don't know.

I am not going to outline all of the efforts that we have gone to and continue to undertake to engage with the very companies that you're talking about. And to refer to a press release from Siter that sponsored the ICANN conference of proof that we're doing nothing in this arena is poor show. Sitter uses a proprietary database of non-live information and which provides just one way of interacting with a company - by phone. I'm not decrying their efforts and we keep a close eye on developments.

Getting a phone manufacturer to embed a domain dialler in their handset is a huge challenge. Have we been talking to companies about it? Sure. Do you know how many layers of people you have to go through, how quickly people join and leave these organisations and how many priorities they have?

So whilst I appreciate you are frustrated, please remember that actually we are all working to deliver a common goal. We also have priorities to work through and are aware of the pressure of time. So whilst we appreciate the candour of the discussion in this forum, please again be aware that when we have successes we will share them and where there are things that don't go so well, rather than apportion blame, we move on and work to achieve what we can in another direction.

If it was true what he said, why nobody has heard from Telnic during the last 3 years?

@247 - another quote from my conversations with Justin Hayward on Telnic's forum !

What Justin unfortunately fails to understand is that CUSTOMERS DON'T CARE ABOUT HOW DIFFICULT A SUPPLIER FINDS IT TO DELIVER THE PROMISED GOODS OR SERVICE !

The supplier's job is to deliver what the customers, having paid their money, can reasonably expect - or even to over deliver (and have delighted customers) - not to complain about how difficult they find it to do their job !

when the business director of a company starts justifying why the business is running bad, then you know in what direction the business is heading
an innovative business would start exploring new ways to find new customers; but telnic is only cutting services more and more

Justin Hayward's job - in his own words - is Business Development and Communications Director for Telnic.

So NO he is not responsible for product deveopment.

But he IS responsible for developing Telnic's business in the marketplace and for communicating with everyone regarding Telnic's .tel product.

I will resist the temptation to make any further comment !

@Silvano - You're right - it's definitely Telnic's Justin Hayward - note the bio info at http://uk.linkedin.com/in/justinhayward which references Leeds University as does your link at
    https://play.google.com/store/books/details/Justin_K_Hayward_The_Luck_Particle?id=h8tGAwAAQBAJ
which also mentions DEMO Fall as shown in the image on http://Justin.tel

With a recent publication date of 1 March 2014 for his book it's not surprising there's little time left for Justin to communicate with the likes of us !

Probably a smart move by Justin to move into writing - the money must be getting pretty low at Telnic and sooner or later staff may have to be "let go" - unless of course the shareholders cough up another $35,000,000 !
