Added value and content quality. I have been blundering around Telpages in a random manner just to see what the rest of the .tel world has been up to and I offer these comments for your consideration: a. a lot of directories are populated with only a name and telephone number; obviously copied from some other source. b. some sites contain information and claims which are incorrect. c. a significant number of sites display very poor use of the English language (the same may be true for other languages). Such poor content quality is not going to encourage the use of .tel by people seeking honest, authoritative information and if it isn't used we are all wasting our time and money. If you own a .tel and are populating it from existing sources why not spend a bit more time in reviewing a number of sources and create a listing which includes more than just a name and phone number e.g. address, website, directory description and pertinent keywords? ADD VALUE to being listed in a .tel. Check the accuracy of the information you include in your site, particularly if you do not live in the country that the site relates to. If you are building a .tel site in other than your native language then get a native speaker to check it for you. There are some sites about which are complete nonsense, even though it is apparent that a lot of well intentioned effort has gone into them. How will users regard your site? Garbage in = Garbage Out Chin up! Roy |
Roy All great points. The problem is that there is no penalty for shoddy work. For example: If Telpages was being aggressively promoted and was becoming the "standard" for contact and directory information, then the penalty of not having a perfect site is felt by traffic going to the sites that are well built. In a real life example: If the teacher is not going to grade the homework, what do you think that does to the overall quality of the work of the students? No penalty = shoddy work. If everyone on this forum knew that Telpages was getting 10,000 search inquiries a day, I can promise you that each would be up until 3 in the morning making their sites perfect. Until there is a monetary penalty (lost traffic to competing sites) then you will continue to see incomplete, poorly built sites. Simple rules of commerce and life. Be well |
