The Olympic Games will happen from 27th July until 12nd August 2012.

And do you know where this is going to happen? It will be right in front of the entry door of Telnic / Telnames.

Can you imagine the huge potential of marketing campaigns when the whole world is looking at London?

• TV commercials could be placed.
  
• Flyers could go around.
  
• Joint ventures with telecommunication, TV and radio providers could be initiated.
  
• Sponsoring of athletes, teams and organizations could be arranged.
  
• Product introductions to visitors of the city could be organized.
  
• and many, many things more

What is the downside? Nothing, but ... surely nothing of this will happen!

This has been suggested by many posters on the Telnic forum over the last year or so.

This is simply too good an opportunity to promote .tel for Telnic to miss with billions of eyes on London, the home of Telnic.

But miss it they did !

Let's make two sums.

I've read here that there are about 250,000 .tel registered.

The cost of a .tel is 10-15 euro, but also only 7 euro!

What is the part of the Telnic? Let's say 4 euros?

So telnic collect 1 million euros per year.

They must pay the rent of offices, bills, salaries, servers...

And how much remains for sponsoring, commercials, etc?

In Italy a proverb says "Non si fanno le nozze con i fichi secchi", that is "can't make the wedding with dried figs"

Telnic earns $8 yearly per registered .tel domain.

Even if registration numbers drop to 100.000 .tel domains, they make more money than enough to cover operational costs.

So Telnic cashes two million dollars per year!

Fine.

But not enough to pay big standard advertising campaigns.

Telnic should work to continually improve its product and hope in word-of-mouth advertising for a more successful .tel

Gmail, MySpace and Facebook never advertised. It was to be a valid idea to make them successful.

And it's obvious Telnic tries the same without considering that only very few exceptional services succeeded this way.
And there is one big difference: all successful services without marketing don't cost any money.
I'm sure if Telnic would give away their domains for free, they also would become successful very fast.
So we are trapped: no advertisement and no free services!

A single page (Telnames Style) for free (maybe with advertising), charges for full domain with subdirectories, images, videos... not a bad idea. It is already done by about.me and dooid.me and it seems to work fine.

I had read of the 35 million dollars, but I thought it was a lie.
