London & The 5 New York Boroughs

Did you know Greater London is split into 33 Boroughs? Ok technically 32 + 1 :)
Every borough now has its very own populated directory London Borough

Did you know New York City is often referred to collectively as the Five Boroughs?
Every borough now has its very own directory NY Borough, just waiting for your Business and/or Service to be added!

This interesting project is the culmination of over 6months work, encompassing 31 live and populated dot tel's with a further 25 dot tel's currently in development.

    Enjoy!

Hi Dottel.net, and thanks for sharing these with us.
The boroughs are certainly useful, and I'm looking forward to getting my borough populated with more useful info. I also notice that unlike London's boroughs, most folders in the NY resource don't have contact information yet, only the placeholder Dottelads emails. How are you planning to proceed to add relevant info to those?

I think the community will also be interested in learning more about your business model with these resources - are you going to promote paid premium listings in these?
Most listed businesses seem to have only a phone number, whereas an address, a map and an email and/or website link would be useful too.

Hi Nadya - The NY folders are indeed empty as we're yet to settle on a preferred partner to manage the New York side of the equation.

The business model and goal is setup to offer Borough.tel as an enhanced free telephone directory (forget paying to call directory enquires, etc). To that end all basic listings are free (telephone number only) and essential as that's the basic usage model of the service so without a number it wouldn't be much of a telephone directory

To enhance a listing (add map, web links, opening times, etc) you need to upgrade to a premum paid for service.

    Hope that answers your questions.

That's very helpful, thanks. Let's see what the community has to say, and good luck with your projects!

The biggest problem with any directory regardless of information listed is the updates.

If you list only the __________ ( fill in the blank, it doesn't matter what) for someone, and it changes, you are accountable for the updates in your directory.

One of the benefits of .tel was the updating by the individual/business themselves.

In other words, if I run a directory like ( www.Grand-Canyon.tel ), and offer a premium service, I am still liable for all information updates when they change.

.tel was supposed to alleviate this problem, and the directory was to list the official .tel of each of those listed in the directory, so that each is automatically updated by the official .tel owner, thus having a "perfect" directory, and at least ownership responsibility applied to the updating.

Directories can't be done this way currently, and not until the "official .tel" is purchased and listed by those who would become a part of the directory.

To list the information for them almost defeats the whole purpose, and so everyone waits !!!

    Sigh.

    Hi,

We have developed a system to overcome this difficulty. Our system allows the .TEL owner to rent out .TEL pages and let the page owners do the modifications themselves. All these will be done with the approval of the owner. the .TEL domain owner will not need to do the updating of contents for others (.TEL page owners in this case), but only approve the content. This way a .TEL owner can manage large number of .TEL pages and many .TEL domains. The new service (both free and paid - very moderate) will be made available after Telnic introduces the OAuth. At present we are doing few modifications to the script. For heavy traffic .TELs, we will introduce a separate hosted stand alone version as well. We hope to make the .TEL popular this way. "More directories means more .TELs, and more .TELs means more directories". Good for all.

    Regards.

We already offer this using http://DotTelAds.com and you can see it live now:

Just click on the links directly on a tel page to be directed to a page where you can purhcase and enter your content and also update at a later date. All changes go through owner approval system.

    Example:
    http://taxi.chelsea.london.borough.tel/
Now click the sponsored custom ad or use the link below:

    According to the timeline http://telnic.org/community-timeline.html
    Its tomorrow!

Yes, OAuth will be launched tomorrow as stated on the timeline. We will need to make some final tests on live following launch before an official announcement is made regarding this, so please bear with us.

This release may affect access to the CTH control panel for a brief period tomorrow morning (during the release window shortly after 07.00 BST), but will not have any affect on the Proxy.
