5 Huge Trends in Geo Domains Now

Interesting article about geo domains.
Mark

Simon G10-19-2011 09:37 PM

Really interesting link, thanks for posting.
Some great tools coming about through combining apps, the web and social media. One I have come across that is really interesting ishttp://wizardistanbul.com/about-wizard-istanbul/
Crowd sourced volunteers providing realtime tourist information... Genius. Imagine using this concept on a city.tel!

Cees10-19-2011 09:52 PM

Here's another very interesting link coming out of the same geopublishers meeting (a bit deeper) Re Cybersquatting

http://www.netnewscheck.com/article/...start-building

Question?
.Coms have an obvious advantage to monetize, are we with a similar geo .tel domain able to replicate the financial benefits?

Cees10-19-2011 10:06 PM

Hope this doesn't get drowned out.
Which would be more desirable, NY.tel or NewYork.tel, I've identified an available geo,
TIA
Cees

Hi Cees,

IMO NewYork.tel - but I would go for both.

If you are going to spend hundreds of hours building up a geo it makes sense to own the second option for just another 10 bucks a year (Telnic have promised a .tel to .tel redirect facility is coming so you can redirect the second choice to the first).

Also, how can you expect to eventually sell your chosen geo for 100's or 1000's of dollars when a viable alternative is still available to your potential purchaser ?

Best of luck with your geo purchase(s).

I would Agree with mike, But if for A locals directory with the intention of a directory then surely NY would suffice? As an extremely Brandable alternative. Plus the shortness works well for the mobile extension

Cees10-19-2011 10:33 PM

Thx Mike & Simon,
In this instance only the long version is available 18 letters, (why did I ask?) I would buy the short version if it was available, but it sounds as though you feel even the long version is still worth while.
Thanks for your input.
Cees

Traffic Is Increasing…and It’s Mobile

That's the big opportunity and future for .tel.

Cees - Didn't know your intended purchase was 18 letters long - presumably 22 once ".tel" is added to the end.

I personally would think twice before buying such a long geo name - particularly if it contains hypens and/or a lot of my target market was mobile phone users - as is likely with a city geo where a lot of users will access it from their mobile phones as they travel round the city.

Very true Tony, not quite sure why http://Telnic.org does not auto-detect the device it's being viewed from and serve up a mobile phone version if appropriate?

I know it would be a lot of work deciding what to leave in and what to leave out of a mobile version of http://Telnic.org - the alternative could be to expand the info on http://Telnic.tel which will of course work seamlessly on all devices.

But for a company like Telnic that focusses on mobile information not to "set out it's stall" on mobile phones does seem somewhat odd - though the priority of such a development may come quite low on the redone roadmap when it is published again.

I'll make a decision soon.

Great story Mark, thanks for sharing the find.

Good ol' Ron Jackson of DNJournal is the one who severely snubbed .TEL if you recall the conversation we had on the forum some months ago versus .CO, and my contact with him.

I should say that he reminded us that the public snubbed .TEL versus .CO

GeoDomains might be the key to more respect as well.

Come on Templates ... and more.

I won't continue to harp on rich features, but when a good Geo Domain includes more, well, check the Albany.com mentioned and you see a good listing with more.

http://www.albany.com/business/century-house-hotel-restaurant-conference-center-3732/

Then there's AT&T's offering in Yellow Pages - http://adsolutions.att.com/advertisi...eo-profile-ads

Point is: GeoDomains using .TEL is great ... to a point. Hope we catch up !

:)

Mike et al,
Have thought twice and bought once, the Geo is "northernterritory.tel" that's in OZ for those note familiar, you can see why the short version is not available.

mikeseaton10-20-2011 01:21 PM

Cees, that's 17 letters not the 18 you mentioned - let's hope it works out OK !

As it's just 2 words, and no hyphens, it's quite easy to remember - once Siri can recognise spoken .tels the length won't matter anyway.

Don't forget to post a link on the forum once you've populated it - though until the new template arrives with large images the attractiveness of .tel geo domains is of course somewhat limited when compared to sites like http://www.Albany.com

Best of luck with your project - you need this template http://telnic.org/forum/showthread.php?t=2347

Thx Mike,
Must have had the wrong specs on when I counted the letters:):D
I'm glad to have the name as it does represent a large part of Australia, BTW I did pick up "qld.tel" (Queensland) not long ago.
I wont get to carried away until the templates arrive, as you point out http://www.Albany.com looks cool.
Cheers
