An experiment

I'm doing a bit of an experiment in selling services to SMB, actually in this case giving services away for charity via a silent auction.

Five certificates and hoping to get word of mouth business afterwards.

I think the $100 voucher is much better than simply trying to make a dollar here n there by selling $10 per year websites that inevitably the newbie person needs to keep registering. The registration process is too fiddly to keep an eye on.

But how about comes with 5years registration instead? Then perhaps your fee is $50 to set it and forget it.

I chuckle every time I rent a $5 movie on iTunes without even a second thought.
Yet it's almost impossible to sell the idea of a $10 website to people that they will in fact own! (well, until they forget to renew ownership!)

Crazy world

Five year option is a great idea. Allow customer to decide. Already experimenting with friends and relatives setting up their sites. I am working on an SEO questions form that customers will fill out. Then the form will generate the bulk import statements to create content including SEO-friendly subdomains for each product or service. Once the experiment is over I will know more for summer start up.

interesting experiment - especially the auto creation off the back of the questionnaire. let us know how it goes.

are you considering building in mgmt reporting? i.e. how long does it take to rank in google, whats my rank in google this week for my chosen keyword, etc

forgot to add - rank.tel will be dropping if you're interested...

@dottel.net I like the idea about rank reporting. Have to try to fit that stat in someplace into the plan. Maybe followup in a month to let customer know how the effort has produced results.

And for those that may prefer the "telnames" template, if your going to have 5 years registration you might use Maximka's (I think it was Maximka) transferring idea, slightly more expensive but it seems a lot of newbies are attracted.

yes, it's the nice layout and pretty pictures!
And with most newbies toting mobile devices, iPads and iPhones, the telnames system really needs to offer a way to upload both the background and the pretty pictures ASAP.
