No wonder they get dropped. Most of them are useless with .tel
Here are some examples : Cozy, Define, Razor, Everywhere
Why would anyone register these as .tel ?

Razor.com. is a major scooter company in the USA, Australia and Germany - so when Phase 2 of .tel happens Razor.tel. will obviously be of interest to them - but they have "Razor" as a registered trademark so the seller may find it not worth the hassle if they try to sell it as it currently is - undeveloped.

It really depends on how the seller develops it, if they do, since trademark registration relates to classes of use within the geographic area to which the registration relates.

The single person buying all the available three letter domains for the past few days will probably be dropping them all this time next year. Makes no sense. But hope he keeps up.

Most of those Twitter domains actually dropped yesterday, with good reason, Twitter is trademarked specifically ... Don't: Use Twitter in the name of your website or application.

There doesn't seem anything to be gained by registering http://GooglePlus.tel following Google's announcement of Google Plus yesterday - if you try and use it for something remotely resembling Google's operation - or try and imply that you have any connection with Google - their team of lawyers are very likely to sue you using the considerably deeper pockets that Google has compared to the average domain investor. I seriously doubt that Google will consider it necessary to make any offer to secure the domain http://GooglePlus.tel for their own use.

Regarding Google Plus, IMO it's too little too late.

There is only room on the internet for ONE Major Social Network site - it's FaceBook.

There is only room on the internet for ONE Major MicroBlogging site - it's Twitter.

There is only room on the internet for ONE Major Dial-By-Name service - I really hope it's Dot Tel but there is a danger of it not being unless urgent action is taken - seehttp://telnic.org/forum/showthread.php?p=15470

Think it was even tel of the week once - sad if it's no longer worth the £10 a year to them!

    tel4rent07-07-2011 09:46 PM

Very sad indeed...where are we heading....

    Cees07-08-2011 05:56 AM

If my memory serves me, I seem to recall he had a few wallawalla related .tels, I guess this one was dispensable.

    TELcp07-08-2011 06:48 AM

Yes, sad to see the time spent on such projects gone down the drain.
But technically speaking, it has to be a failure because not properly designed for SEO, unless the owner had it just for fun. There won't be much web presence without proper SEO. And not properly presented even it it was meant only for mobile communications.

However, we don't know what was the motive.

    wallawallawine is the working site

    TELcp07-08-2011 07:29 AM

    re: wallawallawine.tel
WHOIS says -> Domain Expiration Date: Mon Apr 16 23:59:59 GMT 2012

Anyway if the owner is willing we can give few hints to get it better in terms of SEO.
Or if he/she comes on the forum (better on a different thread) we can explain how to re-do the directory for better web presence.

    Cheers!

    dottel.net07-08-2011 09:20 AM

right its wallawallawines.tel with the 'S' that's been dropped not wallawallawine.tel (the former tel of the week).

Thanks again dottel.net for your daily drops, picked up marlborough.tel (town in wiltshire, as you're probably aware).

Can't believe people are dropping town names. I recommend that everyone develops their town names, it's so easy and possibly the best chance for selling advertising that you will have.

I am taking my time with marlborough.tel building up solid good looking directory of local resources before adding advertising, but have high hopes for this little town.

    Dialaroom,

I almost purchased marlborough.tel but couldn't make up my mind, I would have used it for the very important if not premier wine growing region in New Zealand, check it out.

Good luck with it, it's a worthwhile name.

Out of curiosity, how do you pick the top sites that you suggest to us? What are the criteria?

    just curious

Very true comment from dottel.net - the quantity of quality .tels being dropped is falling rapidly - a justified reward for those of us who have "kept the faith" and put our hands in our pockets whilst others have just given up.

We are now getting closer to the point where the only way to get hold of a quality .tel is to buy it on the resale market - I shall be making an announcment in a few days time re http://teldial.tel which will enable you to list your domains for sale automatically just by using http://anydomain.teldial.com

criteria is loosely based on names similar to what we've purchased or sold in the past, geo's, professions, communication related, directory related or other 'interesting' or cool sounding names.

feel free to search the full list here: http://buyatel.com ;)

good point and a timely reminder that you shouldn't miss out on the opportunity to have your domain listed on our site so it will show up anytime a user searches for expired/dropping domains.

to see it in action go to http://buyatel.com and search for roundup

You'll notice even though roundup.tel is registered, as its on our list of domains the user is presented with an option to buy it now (using your own paypal code) or email you directly an offer

Come on Tel brothers and Sisters
some thoughts pls so i can start filling?
    That will serve you all!

    TELcp09-06-2011 03:48 PM

    @Tel Brother,

The ideal name should be the name of the "parking lot" (or whatever u call where u park cars in that area).

It should then end up something like boulevard.scheveningen.parkeren.tel, strandweg.scheveningen.parkeren.tel etc

    Cheers!

    Mark Kolb (Kprobe)09-06-2011 03:50 PM

Make geo aware and minimize browsing. Mobile users want it quick, no typing, just browse to nearest parking lot. Best would be a couple of clicks and find what they need.
    Mark

    Hello Jens
    Thanks for the respons
    You make mi laugh men
What do you mean redlightdistrict ?
Didnt you check the wrong domain bey mistake?
I am not talking about sexgids But parkeren!
I am using the exact same colors as my Scheveningen because i think it looks so nice!
Why are you thinking about redlightdistrict bey looking my domain?
Because of the purple, ore yellow or bleu?
Normaly i would say a adult site is using pink, red, or black!
Wich color in particulaire i should change then?
btw i do own redlightdistrict !
And this parking is 300 meter away from the redlightdistrict !
But still i dont see it back in the colors
Mabey i am to long already in this neighbourhood!

    dutchstreetdog09-06-2011 11:13 PM

    dutchstreetdog09-08-2011 06:55 PM

    fighting with the layout

    dear friends
Iam still fighting with the layout from my parkeren
i was testing some layout and tought i found a good one
    http://laan.den-haag.parkeren.tel/ ( option 1 )
But the thing is that with every refres of the page it keeps changing the order, i think that happens because of difrent servers.
One time the adres is on top other time the tarief other time the Doorrijhoogte, so its not optimal!
And i like to get the pre printed "Directory information" away, but thats also not posseble!
i have tryed all the boxes but this is still the best option i think!
Or a alternative is to use a free text box then its shows like this
    http://grote-markt.den-haag.parkeren.tel/ (option 2 )
Are there any creatif people with idears, to share with mi?
witch layout is beter option 1 or option 2 , or pls help mi with even a better option
All comments and thoughts are welcome!
    Greetings Dutchstreetdog

    Mark Kolb (Kprobe)09-08-2011 07:01 PM

You cannot control order of text records and search keywords. Telnic expressed interest a few months ago about looking at ordering of text records.

I prefer option 1, but instead of using CTH directory information, use Quick Update with Custom Keywords, like for example as used at www.ads4.tel/
That way you can have labels that stand out. You can only create and edit via the tool, not via CTH but it is a standard supported by Telnic.

    @dottel.net

The above quote is taken today from your page http://buyatel.com - can you please clarify this figure as to exactly what it covers - I assume that it's referring to .tel domains that have not been renewed but have yet to drop ?

It seems a huge number you have come up with !

    Mike Seaton

    dottel.net03-22-2012 05:42 PM

that number is the total count of domains i've kept in my system since last july. i'm debating whether to do a mini purge to clear out some of the old domains.

    these include names:
    1. once expired but then were either renewed or dropped since last july
    2. have expired and will either be renewed or dropped

key difference is Dottel.net is a daily dashboard of the state of .tel, showing daily drops, regs, tel of the day, news, tweets, etc

Buy a Tel allows you to simply type in a keyword and search across not only todays drops, but the lists of upcoming drops to see if and when any matches are dropping.

You can even provide custom lists of domains and have the system auto monitor them and alert you if and when the domain enters the drop system

You can also simply use the drop downs to browse daily drop lists and upcoming drop lists, sort, etc

    Hope that helps clarify differences....

    dottel.net04-06-2012 09:55 AM

some more interesting generic and geo drops entered the system today... there seems to be some nice names working their way to the drop date in June.

    Details and full search here:
    http://BuyATel.com

Just enter the keyword and it will return matches and days till drop for the word.
For those interested in particular domains, you can submit your list of names to monitor and be alerted the day they enter the system. Perfect for those lazy like me that don't want to trawl the daily drop lists.

My pick of the drops will be starting once these good names near the drop date. Currently its looking like June 5th is when the party starts....

apparently not... had the premium names monitored to see what's set to drop and being backorder at the various registrars. there's folks willing to let premium names drop while there are others keen to snap these up and pre-booking the drops with many of the registrars. interesting to watch the action unfold... as i said before, any true premiums dropping will get snapped up pretty quickly and seeing them prebooked at the registrars would appear to validate that.

    dottel.net04-17-2012 01:43 PM

    taxi

fyi - Taxi.tel just entered the drop system and I received my drop alert from my Dottel Drop System

The domain status is currently on status hold so no drop date yet calculated.
    Stay tuned for more news...

nope - drop clock doesn't start until the status comes out of clientHold. Once out of this, the clock starts... there is an eventual final date, but it can drop before this.

    Blunderer04-17-2012 03:49 PM

It's back ordered so don't expect to see it in June.

    dottel.net04-17-2012 04:28 PM

lol - that was quick. does make sense though as a perfect .tel domain

    dialaroom04-17-2012 05:35 PM

Can't believe anyone could let taxi.tel drop, must be mad. Has to be up there with the best of them. Which leads me to ask, apart from trademark names etc. which in you opinion is the most valuable .tel.

Taxi.tel would be in my top 10 with hotel.tel

    TELcp04-17-2012 05:46 PM

I would say http://FX.tel is probably the most valuable .tel around - bearing in mind foreign exchange companies deal in billions and usually make millions in profit every year - so what would $100K matter to them if it helped them dominate such an industry !

I must admit to a certain amount of bias in nominating http://FX.tel in that it's one of mine - I have actually taken off the "For Sale" link now to avoid spending time responding to pointless $nnn bids for it.

My estimate - assuming .tel eventually hits mainstream is at least $nnnnn - maybe more.

The eventual sale of http://FX.tel will be to an end user foreign exchange company - not to a domainer !

    Mike Seaton

    Blunderer04-17-2012 06:01 PM

So far as I am aware its http://crediton.tel :)

    dialaroom04-17-2012 06:21 PM

fx.tel has to be in the top 10

So according to this forum .tels most wanted excluding trademarks are
    1.fx.tel
    2.crediton
    3.Hotel
    4.Taxi

Don't think we need a poll, seems pretty obvious to me.

    dottel.net04-17-2012 07:13 PM

considering the extension - names like call, order, reservations, escort (dutch will thank me!!) etc would be better then some of the names suggested....

oddly enough some of these names are still awaiting renewal and likely to drop!!

    dottel.net04-17-2012 07:14 PM

edit: call is reserved by telnic

    Simon G04-17-2012 07:31 PM

I was amazed newyork and USA and business are dropping also.
Although if they were awarded to a trademark holder already does that mean they could be pulled back by the person again?
May be wrong here but think even tho they have entered te drop cycle they can be pulled back for an additional fee..

    Interesting reading here http://www.dynadot.com/community/article/qa.html?aid=27
Few folk out there are on the ball as the best ones imo were back ordered weeks ago.

    dottel.net04-17-2012 07:34 PM

nope - you're absolutely right. even though they are in the drop cycle they can be pulled back by the registered owner. registrars will often charge an additional fee to 'recover' a domain.

if you want these dropping domains and don't want to chance your hand at catching the drop, always worth contacting current owners and offering to pay the recovery fee + an additional bounty to secure the name.

    dottel.net04-18-2012 02:26 PM

Not surprised at all if that turns out to be the case - though it's not actually been renewed yet - see http://www.easywhois.com/?domain=taxi.tel

No-one would let a killer domain like http://Taxi.tel go - some registrars offer quite a long period after expiry date when you can renew without paying an additional fee - though obviously that's a concession not a right.

http://TaxiNumbers.tel has shown what a valuable resource a "Taxi" or "Cab" .tel domain name is !

    Mike Seaton

    Simon G04-18-2012 05:39 PM

A note on auto renew, always check it has renewed. I had a domain last year which did not auto renew even tho it was set.
I found out after I got an offer at sedo.

Wonder if more will be getting renewed.. Got my eyes on one or two.

Well the German fellow that owns that large pile of previously dropping premium domains has reregistered them including usa.tel, food.tel, chicago.tel etc.
    Mark

    dottel.net04-20-2012 09:05 PM

lol - would appear to be many folks ready to jump all over them should they have dropped.
its always reassuring to know there's still an interest in premium names.

    Simon G04-20-2012 09:52 PM

Yep Jens dropping a few names I got from you for reg or there about last year. Also a few I got first day of landrush three years ago. With a limited budget I'm always refining what I have. I'm guessing others are also. There no real resellers market and end users appear to the most to be rare or non existent

    Dottel.net
Not sure how reassuring it is.A really good keyword that fits the extension getting back ordered for 1/6 the price the original owner paid three years ago does not look to positive to me. Some of the names I've got back ordered are not back ordered at name... Not sure where everyone is back ordering.

May I make a suggestion. Perhaps someone could set up something similar to domainlore.co.uk ere people could put a preemptive bid for a domain if they dont catch it. at least then we could measure how much premiums will got to, and possibly kickstart a fluid aftermarket. If it caught on perhaps we could invite some of the people who hold .tel but have drifted into the drop cycle but then renewed the domains.
If I can provide a better explanation to any of the coders here let me know.
For one I'm willing to put:
    Camp
    If
    QR
On the block if the price is right.

    dottel.net04-20-2012 10:03 PM

i've thought of adding a prebid option on the list of drops on either Dottel.net or better yet on BuyATel.com but its hard to gauge at this stage the actual level of interest on dropping tel domains. As you say there are very few (if any) names backordered across the usual backorder providers. Backordering means you're effectively willing to pay $50 for a tel domain. Considering the current aftermarket level, that's probably the most anyone would be willing to extend to unless they had a predetermined use or need for tel, or unless of course they were an end user.

I picked up some fantastic drops last year for reg fee without backordering. I'm sure there will be a nice selection again this year for just reg fee vs the more expensive back order option. Effectively that's 5 drops you can hand reg vs 1 backordered.

IMO Tel owners are about to face a really 'Big' dilemma

To Buy or Not to Buy?

Buy now and you could end up with the current Template instead of the new offering from Telnames.

Buy now and you may have to pay up Twice: Once to actually buy or renew followed by a 'possible' transfer fee to get the new offering?

    dottel.net04-24-2012 02:32 PM

its not that bad, assuming you plan to hold the domain for over 1 year, then when you transfer, you effectively add another years registration on top meaning you won't have to worry about that next year.

my advice would be to only register a name if the current functionality and template works for you. Don't bank on something we're yet to see finalised, announced, etc

    Hi dottel

While I get what you are saying, there are a lot of people especially on this forum who look upon trying to get something back on money already paid out.

So their dilemma would be to buy now in the hope that they can resell it while at the same time taking a chance that the Template that comes with it is the one their customer wants.

And if they get the new offering would it be transferable without having to wait for a number of days before a Transfer is allowed.

The problem is at the moment we just don't know.

    dottel.net04-24-2012 10:35 PM

    nice pick ups mark

think i got the two I was after for a while

    dottel.net04-24-2012 10:37 PM

reason for dropping today was they expired and went through the process without any hold ups or status holds - pretty much the quickest path from expiry to drop. all other routes take longer....

    dottel.net04-24-2012 10:47 PM

    dottel.net04-25-2012 09:36 AM

    i managed to get dial.tel

and now the question - how would you best see this domain getting developed?

my initial thoughts were geo local based dialing of important numbers (using my geo image tool), anyone have any other thoughts or ideas?

would be a shame to have this as a simple dialing code listing for all the countries, etc

You need to get the corresponding http://www.Dial.com to make it a worthwhile brandable venture !

Which is why I acquired both http://TelDial.tel and http://www.TelDial.com to develop my forthcoming TelDial application - you can't achieve anything at all sophisticated if you just own the .tel !

    Mike Seaton

Both TelDial domains mentioned above (and several other defensive extensions) redirect the user to .tel domain sales whilst development takes place.

    dottel.net04-25-2012 07:27 PM

i want to focus on building it out based on what it can do on the existing extension.

if the need comes to offer richer functionality i have a number of generic tel proxy domains to allow clean extensions and enhancement. goal is to push the url as it ishttp://dial.tel

    should make a fun project

following on from my post last night - here's the story

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-17852830

    Mark Kolb (Kprobe)04-26-2012 09:04 PM

Sorry Jens, it depends on the use, Mars has nothing to do with any brand. I also own Hunts.tel and not selling any products.
    Mark

    dottel.net04-26-2012 10:46 PM

mars the planet came long before the chocolate so you're safe unless of course you decide to manufacture your own chocolate bar called mars.tel

    dottel.net04-27-2012 12:06 AM

yes they should check, and blatant trademarks should not be registered or any name used in bad faith. i.e. mars.tel to sell your own chocolate.

there is a difference between a generic word and registering the clear name of a company or product and using it to either imitate or 'ransom' the trademark owner.

    ok, legal mode off now...

    dottel.net04-27-2012 12:14 AM

thats a sad but true fact of domaining... on the positive side, it will be one indicator .tel has arrived!

    Mark Kolb (Kprobe)04-27-2012 12:31 AM

We registered petmeds.tel almost three years ago and last year rcvd a cease and desist letter from PetMeds. We promptly handed the domain over to them. They pointed it to petmeds.com and didnt even change our old crappy color scheme. We really though pet meds was generic. Wrong.

I don't think it would have been a problem for you if your name was Pet Meds. :p

Or if you had a business called Pet Meds which provided pet mediators to resolve pet disputes. :D

Frankly, I think you would have a case with respect to meds being a generic term. It was a poor choice for a business name in my opinion.

As far as I know, a trademark must specify a business type as well as the name. Moreover, if a business calls itself by a generic term such as Apple, it cannot restrict other businesses from using that name with respect to other uses, such as Apple magazine for Apple growers, etc. Apple computers may sick their lawyers on you to intimidate you, but that doesn't mean that they will win. In such cases if you show you will put up a fight, their only legit option is to make an offer.

While I wouldn't advise ignoring C&D letters, when they referred to names comprised of generic terms, I have in the past politely replied thanking them for their interest, recognizing their concerns, and informing them that the name was registered in good faith and for a completely different use that doesn't conflict with their business use. Never heard from them again. It all depends on how clear cut your case is, and whether it's worth the fight.

Incidentally, I believe it is their legal obligation to at least make an attempt to protect their trademark or else they risk forfeiting it. As long as you show that you're not intending to use the name in bad faith they usually leave you alone, unless they really want the name for themselves, in which case you've got them where you want them, if you're not easily intimidated.

Most of the time if you tell them that you're using the name in good faith, assert your legal rights, and then suggest your willingness to part with the name for a small transfer fee of $500 or so, they will accept, since it is cheaper for them than a legal battle, and you get something for your efforts as well.

The preceding is for entertainment purposes only and not to be taken as legal advice. :D

    Serg04-27-2012 04:44 AM

Mars a good domain name - do not be afraid of squatters that scare letters to their brand (the company did not invent the name of Mars - so this is a typical squatter with money). Literate action to fill the domain, and active protection, not only will protect and make the image (if such it be). I think Mars a word which gives the advantage to the domain owner. Just do not advertise the chocolate and do not ask them to buy the domain. Be above them, and victory will be yours!

abu-dhabi got picked up a few minutes after dropping.

also noticed there was some action over at dynadot for expired tel auctions. several .tel's sold for over $100 and one over $150 .... interesting, considering there have been some quality names listed on this forum for much lower prices. Wonder whether the dynadot marketplace has a wider reach or simply the auctioned names were in more demand

I have quite a few .tels listed at Dynadot Marketplace (you need to have your domain registered with them).

One of the most appealing things about buying there is the instant fulfilment - pay for it and a couple of minutes later it's in your CTH ready to be set up.

Another for sellers is the low commission of just 5% with no minimum charge.

Only potential downside is sales (currently) go to account credit, but that's easily used up for renewal costs if you have enough domains with them.

Here's the .tels currently for sale there - https://www.dynadot.com/marketplace/?tld=tel

Here's where you click to create a free Dynadot account - https://www.dynadot.com/create_account.html

In fact I was also involved in bidding on few tel domains (don't want to go into details but they are all Geo) but gave up after out bid by others. Still there is a possibility of getting one or two if the highest bidder doesn't make the payment in time.

it wouldn't be there as it hasn't technically dropped. registrars (name & dynadot) sometimes auction off names before allowing them to drop. if no bid is placed it would then start the drop process and be available on the lists we publish.

hope that clears up any confusion.

not bad exacts so folks are still searching for the state name. could be informational site or a simple directory business listing. this works well for lesser known cities in the UK that we've developed.

where did you get the 2 year minimum reg information from? that seems new and i've not come across that before.

to answer your qn - they only take the money from your card if they acquire the domain. so no upfront charge but you must have a valid credit card on file so they can take payment should they acquire the domain. I've used them and its worked well.

    dottel.net05-03-2012 11:03 AM

just checked - the 2 year reg fee is for .uk domains which until very recently could only be reg'd for two years vs the one (note: this will be changing soon thanks to upcoming nominet changes - the .uk registry).

Name.com charge in advance but they return fee if they do not get the domain on back order. Domainmonster.com does not charge any money until they secure the domain, I have I good trip with domainmonster.com that work perfect and I do not know if the same thing work with others registers, now I will teach you how to get a back order 100% secure with them, I have secured several .tel domains on back order with this company.
The good thing is this: domainmonster.com is one the biggest .tel registers so if you want a domain with name dot.tel go to their website check for availability and if it has been registered with them, make back order with them as well, when the .tel domain expired they do not let it drop and secure it for you in back order (that its what I believe it work due that all .tel domains registered by them, have been secure on my back order) They even secure it long before drop, for example this week I secured 2 .tel domain as villas.tel and casas.tel (homes in spanish)

there isn't a backorder page per se. you just search for the domain and if its not available you will see a backorder button instead of the buy now button. click that and you're all set...

right - a name can only have one backorder. so would appear somebody already has backordered that name.

all's not lost - its likely one of the buyers is on this forum anyway. so even if you don't get it, they might be willing to sell it to you.

@itld - the way it works is they publish the latest possible date it could drop as the estimated drop date.

when it comes to drop catching, like the other drop catching providers, they poll the name every day and will attempt to grab it when it drops. if it is dropping today, then i expect them or name.com to catch it.

If you definitely want the name, book it at both drop catchers as I haven't come across any other operators in this space yet

I sure am glad that I used the joke, scored big with no upfront cost !

Laughing all the way for $50, and when the previous owner wouldn't let them go for less than $1,000 the last 3 years and then just let them drop.

haha i was just joking too many domains with the same possibility so just thought pages.tel would be better. yes i got it wasnt sure about it that time but happy about it now knowing how much pages people actually tried to look up.

its far more then you would think - the next 3-4 days have literally hundreds of <__>pages.tel domains dropping. am assuming this was all part of a 'project' that never got off the ground

    Shahid05-15-2012 03:46 PM

haha yea it's sad many lose/lost on .tel because they could not understand what is going on but i feel if you have the right .tel it can surely lead you somewhere already requires dedication.

taxi.tel and pizza.tel belong to the same owner, is a domain registrars company call gandi so, they will not let it drop, the thing is that I did pre-order in 2009 at DM for all those 2 domains + hotel.tel and DM took off from my list due that those 3 domains were claimed as a trade mark, I was total disagreed because not one can claim a generic name as trade mark, you can claim taxi.com as trade mark but no taxi in general.

I dont think that is posseble Cees
Well the say thats being done automaticly
But still i am worry because i already encouterd some ugley mistakes
Not with the renewing, but some other issues, so my confidence is lost a bit
The always fixed the mistakes, i must say, but you no, you can fix a crack but not undo it
The domains that are populated, i leave with them, because, i am afraid to move them over
But i am planning to move the majority of my domains to name.com, its 3 times as cheap
I hope you can set it to renew automaticly overthere on name.com

But then again The also made mistake already
Or it was my mistake but the informd my wrong for the solution

I was trying to open the controlpanel and used teldomainmaneger.com
I tryed to login and gett errors
Then i contact name.com And tell the lady i am getting login error
Then she tell mi i cant use special caracters in my password ?!?!?!
And she say i must change the password

    But that wasnt the problem
The problem was i whent to the wrong manager
I should have used telhosting.name.com instead of teldomainmaneger.com
Its afcours also my own fold, but how can that cow give mi the wrong information
And lett mi fight with my login name and password for hrs

She should have now that the password was fine !
    Its always somthing
Telnic shout arrange the selling/hosting/renew thereself

these were original sunrise applications (for trademark holders).
For your own information hence the later registration date, it took a while for them to be verified as true.. Also Apple is a generic term.
just be cause one country (or many) will not allow you to trade mark a word/ term again its actual purpose does not mean you cant do it in a nother such as luxembourg.

You can use apple in the same country as longer its not in the same trade mark categories, and you are not using it in bad faith.
But the owner of taxi.tel and pizza.tel its not a company call yellow taxi or taxi.net, etc, the owner is a company that registrars domains called gandi, have a look at who is information.

    ok different example.
    http://www.circleid.com/posts/200902...bed_by_lantec/
this company are called neither dublin nor do they sell dublin.
My point is that there are always ways round these things which clever people can find and exploit.

At the time (2009) you could access information regarding these applicants, I cant find this info anymore but.. the company who validated sunrise applications was Deloitte who would not have awarded the domain to the applicant unless the applicant had a trademark that was acceptable in at least one country.

    dottel.net05-17-2012 03:17 PM

A lot of domains like taxi/pizza were sunrise registrations that used logo marks registered in Benelux. Pretty cheeky if you ask me. Some of them were rejected though, so it was possible to catch them back in 2009.

nice domain Simon - i'm sure someone will quickly backorder that now or at the very least snap it within a few minutes of when it drops! seems to be whats happened with the best picks this year.

    dottel.net05-23-2012 03:16 PM

just been doing some analysis on the drops and makes for interesting reading...

the most interesting statistic is that of the owners dropping a .tel domain, 71% are dropping more then 2 .tel domains. Leaving 29% of the folks dropping just single .tel domains.....

    dottel.net05-23-2012 05:46 PM

plenty of pickups today - seems to be a regular occurence on any day where there are a number of good names dropping.

    Mark Kolb (Kprobe)05-26-2012 08:32 PM

Yes another bloodfest. Even bigger tomorrow. Keeping Telnic afloat and DomainMonster in business.
    Mark

    dottel.net05-26-2012 08:36 PM

DM were recently sold so don't think the few pence coming in from these backorders are what's keeping them going

Hope folks still managed to pick up a few they were after?

    Shahid05-27-2012 08:10 AM

was lucky i got one too my company's name

    dottel.net05-27-2012 04:19 PM

some amazing drops today - many appear already booked up at the drop catchers.
thankfully as of checking just a few minutes ago, there's still several gems available that aren't booked up, best of luck!

    can05-27-2012 05:17 PM

Any chance to register by hand? Have backordered by name and domainmonster!

    itld05-27-2012 05:21 PM

I made twice by hands on ~30 sec

    dottel.net05-27-2012 07:29 PM

if its been backordered by any of the drop catching services, then absolutely zero chance to hand register unless you find a way to link your brainwaves direct to the internet and the registry

there will be several that aren't booked and available to hand reg though

    can05-27-2012 07:41 PM

It is so bad I got zero.

    dottel.net05-27-2012 07:54 PM

what names were you after? might be worth posting as if its a member on the forum they may be open to a quick flip...
    i picked up all 10 I was after (8 today, 2 yesterday)

interesing to see name.com start winning some of the backorders last night.

not sure if they've changed anything on their side or the sheer volume of backorders placed last night..

    Shahid05-28-2012 10:49 AM

i won another one last night with DM quite happy.

had preordered it on name.com too but name.com lost

    Shahid

    lewisrx05-28-2012 05:11 PM

how long will DM transfer the domain to your account ,I have ordered one and it shown that DM have won it,but 22 hours have past, there is nothing happened ,no email ,no messages and no payment demand either. is there something need to do?

    Mark Kolb (Kprobe)05-28-2012 05:17 PM

Took DM two days last week and then another 2 days to get the zone right for me.
    Mark

    lewisrx05-28-2012 05:27 PM

thanks Mark,if nothing need me to do,I will wait ....oh ,DM have transfered the domain just now.so coincidence .

    boracay.tel05-28-2012 05:35 PM

Now you will need them to re-activate the zone file, they contact telnic, etc.
Wish somebody would wise up over this

    dottel.net05-29-2012 12:04 AM

still haven't figured out why in some cases the zone file needs to be reactivated and sometimes it works just fine. telnic - there's definitely something not right with the whole process and it does indeed get 'stuck' often.

    Aled05-29-2012 08:34 AM

Dottel.net, an issue can occur if a .tel name has expired and it's zone has not been deleted by the registrar. All registrars have been provided with instructions as to the command and parameters which should be used to "force" the creation of a zone on registration which avoids any issues.

    dottel.net05-29-2012 10:19 AM

    thanks aled

as we approach the end of the Landrush drops, I'm noticing traffic to both Dottel.net and Buy a Tel is nearly triple of what it was back in January and most of last year.... Also reflected in the regular pick ups of premium names as they drop.

There's the usual regular buyers, but also some new names amongst the buyers. Hopefully a sign that others are hearing about .tel and interested in developing them out... Time will tell

    dottel.net05-31-2012 09:17 AM

    picked up websites.tel

another round of top drops over the coming days... best names appear to be booked, but there's hopefully some nice names available come 7.30pm tonight...

    Shahid05-31-2012 11:02 AM

Cool hopefully we all have some on backorder inshallah i hope everyone is lucky fingers crossed

    dottel.net05-31-2012 03:43 PM

I know some folks were asking last time they were good names on the dynadot auction... hasn't been anything for a while but just noticed the following expired name auctions:

    badminton.tel
    leopard.tel
    rabbit.tel

if they are of interest go to dynadot and click expired auctions to bid....

    Mark Kolb (Kprobe)05-31-2012 07:43 PM

I've got a three week support thread going with Name.com re their Back Order service. Did anyone get any BO's through Name today or last few days since they said they fixed their problem. I got a couple a few days ago but nothing since.
    Mark

Got a reply today that it is working but they are implementing ways to increase their chances. But they won't reveal anything further. I had 4 BO's with them today, none succeeded.
    Mark

    tel4rent06-01-2012 09:23 AM

    Mark!

i have posted few weeks ago on name.com BO, not good at all but their support service is excellent. They say last year that they were working on improving it but nothing happened...at least not something noticeable.
So i would recommend that you stay away from it if you are serious about BO....or only to increase your chances if you have BO the dmain somewhere else.

    itld06-01-2012 10:29 AM

I personally have no complaints and complaints about the Name.
I was quite happy with its service , transfer and other very low prices
and therefore can not always be the first.

Interested in another aspect of the case :
except for DM & Name who is still a function BO's ?

    dottel.net06-01-2012 09:10 PM

see some name.com backorders go through tonight - so must all be working again.
notice some were booked at both dm and name.com, name ruled so would all seem good

    Mark Kolb (Kprobe)06-01-2012 09:46 PM

Yes, Name did some wonders today. Got all my BO's through Name and even grabbed two manually via Name that were in BO at DM. Maybe DM was asleep today or maybe Name got their act together, dont't know. Either way, hope it keeps up.

haha - hand reg'ing something that was backordered, seems like only one of them works on any day
just browsed the reg's - some nice buys.

    dottel.net06-02-2012 09:17 AM

big set of drops today - some great names, anyone serious about any names should consider backordering it. Assuming its not already booked.

Name.com were the clear winners last night, interestingly haven't seen a single registration by DM yesterday, so not sure if they're celebrating the jubliee?

Just incase, if you want the name, i'd make sure you book with name.com here:
    Todays drops
    Search drops and backorder

    supercyberheroes06-02-2012 01:35 PM

Hey dottel I believe name.com is cheating you, I have been trying for many time to back order through your link and they never honor me the payment, but if I get out from your link on a new browser it will allow me to honor my payment, so you could no get your commission.

I am serious man, at the beginning I was thinking it was something wrong with my card, I called HSBC bank and they said everything is find and the problem is with name.com
I opened new browser and name.com allow me the payment then used your link again and they did not honor the payment.

You should contact them I do not know if this happen to some else.

thanks for the info - out of interest did you just do this order today? just checking all my stats and i see one backorder did go through and process.
i'm sending over 1,500 clicks a day to name.com, so hope they'd be looking after me

    dottel.net06-02-2012 01:46 PM

i only see 1 completed order over the last 3hours... believe even if you do two together, they'll only credit me for 1 anyway

I just back ordered 2 at DM of the 4 I want: publishers and franchise both gone at DM and name.com

My BO's on DM win today .

What to do me next ?
I dont get never letter from DM . Whats procedure ?

    dottel.net06-04-2012 09:15 PM

they bill you and then transfer name into your account. used to be done within a few hours but appears to be taking around 2 - 3 days now from the point of catching till its in your account.

    did you catch anything interesting?

    itld06-04-2012 09:22 PM

i.e. DM buy domains on itself ? and then transfer to me ?
then I can opening 1000000 empty bids

    Appr. & Yoko.

    dottel.net06-04-2012 09:29 PM

as a registrar they catch and reg and then transfer ownership to you. its normal and standard practise.

its the same with all the catchers on any domain extension i've worked with (.com, .net, .co.uk, etc)

    itld06-04-2012 09:37 PM

    well
And if I refuse to pay?
    DM will suffer significant losses

    supercyberheroes06-04-2012 09:41 PM

tomorrow some very good premium will drop, I have some (same ones) with DM and name.com let see who win again

24 hrs before they catch your domain they already have your bank pre-authorization, if not DM will auction your domain, in that way I have won in auction with DM these domains: buses, drivenschools and 2 more. Around £60 for each of them, at the end they get more money in that way.

    Shahid06-04-2012 10:12 PM

DM doesn't really make a loss registering a .tel might cost normal fee the system they designed or programmed was done for long time so incase 100 people order would cost 1500 expample if they sell or recover 30 domains they make 65x30 1=1950$ so they stil the winner I might be wrong but since I m.in business we call this running cost if you don't spend you don't make it back.

Strange situation : 'Warehouse' drop today , but registered last night already

    dottel.net06-05-2012 10:20 AM

just checked - was due to a period when the whois url changed and nobody mentioned it so we weren't able to perform the daily whois to track the drop date correctly. We fixed this a few weeks ago (thanks to Aled's help) but as warehouse was already in the cycle and one of those morning vs evening reg's it should have been added to yesterdays list not todays.

    dottel.net06-05-2012 10:24 AM

    caught republic and helsinki

there's plenty to pick from in todays drop - hopefully everyone gets something.

You are not alone, still waiting on Name.com/Telnic to get some domains initialized, one for two weeks. The common point has to be Telnic. Something wrong.
    Mark

    telrific06-05-2012 03:29 PM

The sheer volume of drops probably has the system backlogged right now.

    dottel.net06-05-2012 05:07 PM

don't think its the volume of drops at all... actually this year there has been relatively fewer drops then last year....

    telrific06-05-2012 05:16 PM

All at the same time though ?

I got a backorder 3-4 days ago, just coming through today, and that's the order, not even the config. ???

Based on everyone's statements and the 1118 dropping today, just thought the bottleneck quantity, not the annual quantity might have something to do with it right now.

Good to hear the annual rate of drop is lower anyway !

    dottel.net06-05-2012 05:22 PM

there were days with several thousand drops last year. i expect the reason for delay with backorders is the 4 day weekend in the UK (Jubilee)

Ah, a 4-day weekend certainly does make sense, in the UK.

I don't think Name.com is in the UK though, or does London manually control drops ?

    I thought is was automated.

    dottel.net06-05-2012 05:37 PM

i thought you were talking about DM. no idea why name.com has a delay - unless there's some connection with telnic (based in the UK).

Who knows, I certainly don't either, pure speculation when I threw it out there ...

Just thinking of possibilities, and very glad to hear its not likely the mass of drops !

DM won again I grabbed ebook, egg, classified and carros (cars in spanish) tomorrow some more good drop. I got a domain name in plural if tomorrow get that one in singular, I will put in action one of my best ideas.

I have been telling all of you for many time that the best way to make good extra money is with telco, if I get tomorrow the domain I am waiting for the last 3 years; in some months all of you will listen to me and many will want to copycat my idea, in fact I am already in contact with a telco for the past week, once they give me the green light, I will move to the second step if I get green light as well, then business will be on the way.

As I said before, think they take it in turns

just checked your domains supercyber - those appeared to have been reg'd a few days ago, guess they only just completed the transfer to you.

Good to hear something is in the offing with telcos.
We had similar discussions with a mobile telco from Europe but nothing materialized.

Wishing you all the best with your projects and hopefully you should get all the domains you plan to acquire.

    Cheers!

if the domain is that important, i'd recommend booking at both DM & Name.com just incase. The last few days have shown, its hit and miss which one of the two will win, but when one does win on a particular day it is often a clean sweep with the other getting virtually nothing :)

I just went through your link to BO at name.com and again did not honor my payment, DM no problem at all, so I have to trust in DM.

    Hi Super
I hope you get that domain for your project. Seeing that it is so critical for your plans and therefore for the Tel community, if anyone in the forum gets it first, and does not have any immediate plans for its development, then the forum member I think should transfer it to you.
Getting TEL off the forum and into the "streets" is critical, whichever one of us does it.

    TELcp06-06-2012 09:17 PM

I had ANTHONY.TEL backordered at name.com, but it has been acquired by somebody else through freestyleholdings.com as if they (freestyleholdings.com) acted independently.

    dottel.net06-06-2012 09:19 PM

thats because whitelabel operators run/process independent to main name.com site
even though its all effectively using the same backend processing.

    TELcp06-06-2012 09:21 PM

So, it means that to secure a tel domain, name.com B/O & DM B/O is not enough. Isn't it?

    dottel.net06-06-2012 09:28 PM

yup - this appears to be relatively new as prior to this all backorders were either via dm or name.com but there are few buyers now backordering through whitelabel sites.

just checked 4 whitelabel sites, dm and name.com and they have all booked one drop I was after - oh well

    dottel.net06-06-2012 09:35 PM

interestingly the whois on these whitelabel sites seem to indicate either name.com as the domain registration holder or a privacy setting...... hmmm....

    TELcp06-06-2012 09:38 PM

Good thing other monsters didn't surface until today.
Can't afford to b/o at 6 different registrars unless you really, very badly, need a particular tel domain. The sign is to take a break, I think.

that's actually domainsite.com -> a name.com site. even the whois shows it as owned by name.com. So 'name.com' did grab it.

might be worth dropping name.com support an email to ask for clarification on how booking at name.com vs domainsite.com (or the other whitelabels) works when both effectively use same name.com system.

    What's the problem?
Since there is not momentum in registration numbers for the .tel extension, most registrations this year will be dropped next year again.
So if you don't get your desired .tel domains today, you just have to wait one year and buy it then.
If no software development happens like since 1 year already, the interest in .tel won't increase during the next years either.

    daytonac06-06-2012 10:46 PM

    hi guys,
the quality of .tels dropping is amazing, but that said, they weren't being renewed by past owners, and yet get back ordered for $60 dollars, i tried jumping the queue and contacted the owner of send.tel, but couldn't sell it to me, as he no longer had it in his account, sounds like the backordering companies are making a fortune from you guys, i'll i can say is goodluck. dc

    TELcp06-07-2012 04:02 AM

I rcd an email from name.com that they nabbed anthony.tel for me.
So, freestyleholdings.com has done the job for me on behalf of name.com.

The spot domain / domainsite was there nabbing on behalf of name.com during the last year's LL general availability.

This means B/O at name.com is just enough, no need to worry about their whitelabel sites whether they mention that they are "powered by name.com" or not. They are not operaing independently. As dottel.net said they all have a common back end.

Name.com has its own Monsters now, grabbing for their master.

Well, it is not the end of the world.
But history of domaining shows ONCE MISSED, it's GONE FOR EVER in most cases.

    @supercyberheroes @dottel.net TELcp.
I BO'd magazine at name.com and got it.
Never heard of the other sites you all refer to. Name are now getting many more BOs than before.

    dottel.net06-07-2012 09:40 AM

Nice buy Tony - if you check the whois of your reg you'll notice it actually says:
    Registrar URL (registration services): whois.domainsite.com
    instead of name.com

But folks on this thread have already cleared up that these are all part of name.com

    tony mayo06-07-2012 10:11 AM

@dottel.net I did not have any great expectation of getting magazine as it had already been BO'd at DM, but Name has obviously moved up a gear. Got County and Arts last night so must check whois for those also.

Yes I did BO magazine at DM, sometime you win sometime you lost , my big problem with name.com now is: that they do not honor my payment that is why I could not BO it at name.com My bank CC says the problem is with name.com and with them, so I am not wasting more time.

Yes, I got it on BO at DM I was lucky it was only BO at DM and not at name.com otherwise will be lost, in total I need 2 to start my new project, I believe the other one will drop today, but this time I have BO at DM and name.com so who ever grab it I do not mind.

BTW today I got an email from CJ that says: they have approved me the UK pay per call program, also I will start my other project with premium rate numbers, I still need some more questions to ask the telco I do not want to start a project without everything clear, then I will need to make another contacts before start.

And my supercyberheroes book is ready in both English and Spanish but no published yet, I am waiting for grammar correction.
