    Web proxy down.

I noticed the web proxy was down this afternoon for a bit. While I could still get onto my tel from my mobile. Downtime in any form is not good for .tel

Was there a reason for this? It did not seem to be isolated as I tried several .tel domains over a number of different registrars not all of which were mine.

Does .tel have a uptime policy?
If someone was going for a webhost and they were down with-out notification this would be extremely detrimental to the businesses that were using this host. I would expect my .tel to be accessable via pc or mobile at all times.

I understand .tel is still being improved on but can we not avoid incidents such as this please.

If down time is required and cant be solved by using a second proxy/ mirror or even if possible the mobile proxy via pc (some data rather than nothing is at least an improvement) Could there be prenotifiation of downtime provided, if there is already where would I find it?

What like a cache? pulls from a regular website "snapshot" cache if the DNS is down?

I would like Telnic to post status updates like Twitter does, http://status.twitter.com/ http://status.telnic.com/ Twitter use http://www.tumblr.com/ to post the status, as it's free and customizable and they allow you to push out a sub domain over it, I see no reason why Telnic should not do the same to keep us informed.

They also have Pingdom reports http://www.pingdom.com/reports/vb139...ter.com%2Fhome

Looks like theirs a business opportunity for a "is it down for everyone, or just me" .tel page :) http://downforeveryoneorjustme.com/

I think Telnic need to fix the ERROR pages, so that we can get a semi custom one just in case anything goes wrong or if the proxy is down allow us to have the domain forwarded to a "static" page to explain why.

Sorry my profile is not accessible at the moment, due to maintenance you can email me here, please check back later.

The mobile and standard proxy pages are served from the same place so it's very unlikely that the proxy was down. I checked with our technical team and they confirmed that there wasn't any downtime on the proxy pages yesterday. There is a suggestion that it may have been a routing issue.

Thankyou for the reply Justin. Is it possible to look for them to look into this further to ensure it does not happen again please.

If I get it again I'll take a screenshot.

The page did not seem to have any format or template on it but did have the .tel logo. And simply stated something along the lines of the page was not accessible at present (in red font).

Thanks for the detail Simon, I will pass this on. If the proxy was rendering, then again, you were able to access the web proxy. There may have been a routing issue outside of both Telnic's and your computer's control.

Pingdom http://www.pingdom.com is brilliant - it monitors your site (any extension) from multiple servers around the world. You can see exactly when your site is down, for how long, and also the response time to pull up a page (you can designate which page). The response time report is very valuable - it may be that when you test your site from your own computer the response time is quick, but for users in parts of the world it is slow, or vice-versa.

You do not need to add any code to your site for Pingdom to work.

I use it for monitoring http://www.Domains123.com - I discovered it when I found the link on Twitter for the public to view their Pingdom stats.

One last thing - there is a Free Account at http://www.pingdom.com which lets you monitor 1 site only.

Even disqus use http://status.disqus.com on tumblr you can catch it if you watch the top right as it's loading before the "logo buttons" dissipate.
