...just keeping some premium ones on the off-chance that Telnic/Telnames will one day get their worldwide marketing act together !

I've never come across such a lack of pro-active marketing activity with a company (or more precisely 2 companies with the same CEO/CFO/CMO etc.) in my entire business life on the internet !

Whta is the matter with them - they have a world-beating product launched 3.5 years ago and hardly anyone knows about it - despite raising $35,000,000 to cover the cost of development AND marketing.

Software developers and domain investors will soon be focussing on 1000+ new gTLDs about to be launched - do Telnic/Telnames not realise they have just about blown it ?

Anyway if you are looking for some good .Tels to pick up here's one I am letting drop - http://www.easywhois.com/?domain=adverts.tel - I'm sure someone will find something to do with it.

But what's the point of owning a piece of internet real estate if no-one else knows it exists, or if they do know doesn't want to buy or rent it ?

Telnic/Telnames please wake up before it's too late - though it may already be !

Here's some worthwhile reading - http://domainnamewire.com/2008/11/10/telnic-a-35-million-investment-gone-awry - 4 years old but still relevant.

What a pity to have invested good money in good quality domains and letting them go this way.

Are the information from this resource trustworthy?
Who would have invested $35m and not insist in pushing the product into the market? I can't believe that!

Yes it is true - $35,000,000 was handed over by investors to Telnic Ltd. to develop and market the .tel extension.

A company check on Telnic Ltd. at http://companycheck.co.uk/company/03555437 shows the company had a Net Worth of £8,793,812 as at 30 June 2011.

I have no doubt Telnic investors would be interested in a sale of the Telnic registry if the opportunity arose - at least they would get some of their $35,000,000 investment back !

Lack of Telnik desire to develop .tel became explanable - if we suppose, that from begining Telnik plan contain only 2 steps:

    1. Collect investors money.
    2. Collect Landrush money.

And step number 3 - developing .tel to global net, was not in plan. For me is strange, that investors see wasting their money and dont rise their voice.

I can only guess, but I think Telnic expected the internet users will discover and understand the idea behind .tel easily. Telnic must have thought the success will come without a lot of effort, because the technology of .tel is the logical advencement of telephone and internet in one product. With that I'd even agree, but meanwhile Telnic should have understood even a groundbreaking invention needs a lot of endeavor to succeed.

For sure Telnic, their investors and the early .tel buyers expected a faster market penetration.
Today we know it takes longer than expected. But if name dialing should become reality one day, I know what product is the first choice for that.
Telnic could do a lot to speed up things; but if they don't, there will be a need for .tel in the future anyway.
I wish Telnic would be more present, but we know already they don't let them force into anything.

    @Telminator

100 % true. That's the reality we have to face.
Those .tel owners who still kept their domains until today believe in the long-term goal. And most of those people put their domains aside and wait until the breakthrough show signs.
Most speculators who hoped for fast cash have left the ship already.
I'm not so worried about the future of .tel. DNS requests are the only reasonable solution for name dialing; there is no serious competitor around and one day the need for name phone numbers will be discovered by Telcos. Than .tel is forced to take off automatically!
