    What is the appropriate thing to do now?

    There is no general answer to that.

    It depends on your domain, your intended usage and your expectations.

    If you own callcenter.tel, it would fit perfectly.

    Honestly?

    No!

    I like the name callcenter.online more!

    But callcenter.contact would be good, too.

    The 6-th option: not dropping, but only reducing the number of TEL domains.

    What happens with TEL that all depends now from actions (mismanagment) of one person only. Nobody knows future and nobody knows, how long he will be the boss? May be half a year later he will die from liver cancer or cirrhosis and new faces will come? : )

    .tel had its chance when it was launched in 2009 - and Telnic did almost nothing.

    But with the competition of 1,500 nTLDs in 2017, the successor must be very good.

    Yes, it is so. But these nTLD are alive only due to enthusiasts who invest their money into them. Enthusiasm has its weak point - it is a temporal state of mind. And it always ends - earlier or later.

    Who knows, may be till 2020 nTLDs will stop to be a fashion? And may be then the number of current 1500 nTLDs will decrease to some 5 - 15 alive ones?

    That would be still possible.
    The .tel registry can do much:

    • Giving one domain to every individual for free
    • Massive development of the Telnames template
    • Creative cooperation with start-ups
    • Providing new services for websites, e.g. flexible content integration
    • New invention of platforms for data storage in the DNS

    But this isn't possible with Mister Cash, because he abhors every form of work.

    That's the difference between nTLDs and .tel!

    nTLDs are used by big companies and it's already obvious that they will become a great success:
    http://www.tel.community/t4415-famous-companies-using-ntlds

    But I don't know one single successful .tel website!

    Some people during these years tried to do something useful from their TELs, and some of them succeeded:

    sexgids_tel - couple a years ago its owner said he has very good income.

    zagadki_tel  - more than 1000 000 visitors per year.

    Of course, after Telnic's "amendments" which will come in March, these projects will be lost.

    @maxi

    That are two very good .tel projects.
    The design of the .tel template is strongly in need of improvement, but not adaptable due to Telnic's restrictions.

    Clever as Telnic is, these projects will lose their content and good positioning in March (as you mentioned).

    This takes away the rest of confidence that there is still a future for .tel.

    I do not share current enthusiasm of developing TELs as ordinary websites. Besides of other reasons, there is also one important for us economical reason: if we will do this, when we will help Telnic to earn more money, and this will help Telnic to survive longer - doing in that time nothing useful for us.

    I think that at the present moment it is in our interest not to do much work helping Telnic to survive.

    Because in our interest would be a change of Telnic as owner of TEL-registry to another company which will really take care of this registry and will do real attempts to promote it. This includes a return and developing of original TEL idea with 3000 folders and hosting on DNS - because that was the only one strong point of TEL and without it it becomes just one of many and many of other sh*t extensions with no perspectives of success.

    In my opinion, until Telnic will not go away, till that time we will have only losses here. So, I personally will do with my TELs only a minimum which I really need - and no more.

    Telnic has blocked the development for many years and has done everything to prevent a success of .tel.
    We all have enough reasons to be angry about Telnic.
    However, the current opening up for webhosting has a realistic potential to attract different and much more customers.
    I came to the following conviction:
    Either the success comes now with the upcoming changes this month or .tel is lost forever.
    In one year from now, we know exactly if it's still worth to keep .tel domains.
    If we aren't able to read about any success of .tel domains until the end of the year 2017, then we can throw away all our .tel domains without hesitation.
    The destiny of .tel domains will be decided this year!
    Mister Cash has done everything to put .tel domains into this disastrous constitution.
    It doesn't matter anymore if a successor will be found or not; .tel has this one very last chance!

    Sunrise, I am sorry but I do not agree that TEL will be lost forever whatever would happen in any possible scenario.

    I see the situation like this: in the attractive place of a city was build a modern aparthotel, and many tenants rented apartments there. But it happened that owner of that hotel was a not suitable person who neglected all needs of tenants. Because of that, business of that hotel was almost ruined and hotel's owner turned to be on the edge of a bankruptcy.

    What will happen after he will finally bankrupt? Will be this hotel's building demolished and destroyed to bricks? Not at all! Hotel will be sold on auction to another person, who most probably will be interested to earn money in hotel business and because of that will do all necessary repairs and modernisation of that hotel. So the result of a bankruptcy will be better living conditions to hotel's tenants.

    The same positive result, I think, will come to us all after Telnic's bankruptcy. Because of that we should be interested in an as quick as possible Telnic's bankruptcy.

    We have several options what to do with those of our TELs, which we are not going to drop and want to keep:

    - to make on TEL an ordinary website (I personally am lazy to do this, and at the moment see any convincing reason to waste my time and money on this);

    - to make a redirect to our already working COM website;

    - to make a redirect to our TELs' sales pages at Sedo or Dynadot, where they are listed;

    - to make one-page on Telnames with a link to our already working COM site;

    - to do nothing and wait for better times, when the owner of the TEL-extension will be changed to another one - they at Telnic could be already in the minus of few millions of pounds, so it's a matter of time when this will happen.

    Waiting is not an option. Telnic or no Telnic. The worst decision a person can make is no decision. People need sites. Nearly half of US businesses still do not have sites. In some parts of the world it is up to 80%.

    Hello Malaga,

    Thank you for your insight on this it is nice to read from your side and your positive approach towards tel on other posts as well.

    This is exactly what we need to understand is telnic is just .tel provider whatever they had promised or didn't does not make sense anymore because what we have is what we need to build ourself in order to make this going as a team as a group rather than individually where we are as confused as a newbie.
    it is always good to guide a newbie on this for better.

    1. Telnames-style single contact page with web hosting and maintenance software included in the registration price.

    2. "Normal DNS" leading to various outcomes e.g:
    - 2a. A conventional web site.
    - 2b. A package offering from Mark, Shahid, etc.
    - 2c. A redirect to another domain (say keyword.tel redirecting to John Smith's Business site).
    - 2d. A parking page such as that offered by Sedo, etc.

    mikeseaton, you didn't mentioned the third option, which is very impotant:
    maxi wrote:- to do nothing and wait for better times, when the owner of the TEL-extension will be changed to another one - they at Telnic could be already in the minus of few millions of pounds, so it's a matter of time when this will happen.
    And this option is the most popular between TEL owners even now - with still working for the rest few days original TELs on free Telnic's DNS hosting with 3000 subdomains, with it's simple for use dashpanel, managing of which does not requires nor any additional skills, nor money for third-party hosting and services.

    I think it is obvious, that when after few days TELs will become the same as any other of newTDL domains, the number of TEL owners who will begin to use this third option (to do nothing) will only increase drastically. Because every additional requirement (must have necessary skills for mastering websites, paying for hosting, third-party services, etc.) logically reduces number of people willing to do this. And drastically increaces number of TELs without any content and usage.
