Say I wanted to have a group of companies on my .tel directory. Say these companies had coupons for deals. Say people could register their phone numbers on the .tel. Then when their phones were within say 50 metres of the company, the coupons would be automatically sent to their phones. How would I do this - GPS and all that stuff? Appreciate any ideas; especially those of Expert!

You have to implement a web NFC AFI on your website.
Because of the restrictions for the Telnames template, you have to host your own website on your .tel (or any other domain extension).

This is a company who is offering the service you have described above:
    https://www.coupontools.com/en/distribute-mobile-coupons-with-nfc-technology
Costs for businesses that wants to deliver coupons start at $79 per month.
They offer especially triggered website pop-ups:

A custom domain license costs $299 per year:

That was only one example for a service. There is a broad variety of supporting tools:

If you don't want to pay a monthly fee, you can create a web NFC API for your website yourself.
You can find a guide for this here: https://w3c.github.io/web-nfc/
