The good and the bad Empty The good and the bad

Post by FrankW. 2012-10-13, 6:17 pm

During the last days I’ve spent some time for getting an overview about all the information on Teltalk.
I’ve read a lot of good and also not so good things about TEL on this forum.

I’ve understanding for people who are not satisfied with the current state. Telnic and customers have expected that almost 10 million TEL will be registered by today.
Nobody should be surprised that some frustration accrue about this ambitious target couldn’t be reached.

But I see also the difficulties of the market:
TEL is a completely new product and doesn’t go conform to all other domain extension.
The need for this new technology isn’t easy to see for users who have only dealt with traditional websites for centuries.

But there are so many great things to tell about TEL that puts this invention into a very special position:
Have you ever seen a mobile website that is so easy to manage?
Have you ever been able to contact a website owner within a few seconds only?
Have you ever created a compelling website with so little work?
Have you ever heard about a website technology that gives the option to be implemented into dial-up connections?

Software development is not the fastest for TEL, but in return domain owners pay a very low fee for a great product without any extra costs.

Luckily I haven't found anybody who is complaining about TEL in general. Negative comments are always related only to unfulfilled wishes.
Putting aside the negative feedback about slow development I agree with the supporters for TEL on this forum that TEL will be a bestseller on mobile phones!

So why we aren't patient instead of being frustrated that success usually doesn’t come over night?

Most of us are not unhappy with .tel, but we are displeased that a) we don't have access to the template from Telnames and b) which costs two and a half times more.

I'm Ligurian, and Ligurians have a reputation of being very stingy and careful with the pennies :-)

Telnames cost 15 GBP (indeed 14,99) and discounts with coupons are only for the first year.

The "old" .tel can be purchased for 10 € (~8 GBP), and .com and a lot of other domains for 6 € (~5 GBP).

Right, but customers don't have a website included with other domains and they have to pay additional hosting fees.
Instead after logging in Telnames gives them an integrated control panel which don't need to be searched.
Please compare the prices from Telnames with competitors.
It's unbelievable, but they usually charge $300 - $1,000 for a similar service:

    Not necessarily.

If you have a domain, you can use a free hosting service like, for example, www.weebly.com and use your domain for the site for free without additional costs of hosting.

Weebly offers for free a website builder, a lot of themes, no banners and it's reliable.

Here's the page that explains how to use your domain with them:
    http://kb.weebly.com/domain-registrar.html

    There are other similar services.
    At the moment I remember

The cost factor isn't the decisive argument.
SMBs don't want to spend time neither with searching for (cheap) website services nor with administration of websites, because they are too busy with their daily business.
If they would know about Telnames, they won't hesitate to register a domain with them, because it's priced low and gives a SMB everything they need without spending time for it, because it was never easier to create and update a (mobile) website.

One last thing that I did not write.
Weebly create automatically a mobile optimized version of every website, that shows automatically to the visitors that come from mobile.

    That's the key thing isn't it ?

If "Joe Business" doesn't know about a service, through lack of worldwide marketing of the .tel extension, he is hardly likely to purchase that service in the millions !

The most obvious statement - but one that Telnic, and perhaps now Telnames, seem to constantly ignore.
