Another interesting article about the coming nTLDs

In an article on The Washington Post:

"Having thousands of potential top level domains available brings the unique value of any one domain name down to almost nothing: We could register BestSentences.blog, BestSentences.web, BestSentences.home, BestSentences.lol…and on and on. The coming expansion even destroys the revenue potential of “parking” domains before they’re resold, since fewer people will randomly type in .com addresses."

IMO the following will be the effect of the introduction of nearly 2000 new gTLDs:

1. An incredible amount of confusion - most people outside of internet professionals simply don't appear to know what's about to happen.

2. ALL existing domain values will drop, with .com dropping less than anything else, followed by a resurgence in the value of .coms as a "safe haven" - this effect can be observed in financial markets with the price of gold in times of uncertainty.

3. There will be an opportunity for a "single point of contact" gTLD to make manageable the sheer variety of domain names/extensions that will start to exist, on top of the various internet identities that users already have.

4. This is probably .Tel's last opportunity to become a worldwide success - an easily generated SINGLE POINT OF CONTACT FOR ALL YOUR INTERNET IDENTITIES which works on all types of internet devices.

5. BUT IF "JOE PUBLIC" DOESN'T KNOW ABOUT .TEL HE OBVIOUSLY WON'T BUY IT OR USE IT !

Attention, Interest, Desire, Action - it's up to Telnic/Telnames to generate this now !

You are right. We, who know Internet,must teach to Joe Public that a website is characterized both by the part that precedes the dot and the part after the dot.

As we have a name and a surname, so internet addresses must be considered in their entirety.

Yes, but more choice for buyers at a lower price.

I believe in the .tels. I paid for my sites until 2015. Then I'll think what to do.

6. TELNIC can not afford , nor the Registrars due to new Tlds interfering marketing, to spend money to educate Joe Public for pro TELs

7. TELNAMES is tracing , oh sorry should say, "building" TN after TN, it's way with the balance of marketing efforts they can afford (and be supported by TELNIC as "they" generate higher margin to split, and still some activity in TNs registration as a packed TEL ;)

8. In old times remembering, some low cost massive way of pushing a product or a service without spending fortunes in marketing, was to "incidentaly" have this product or service notice on free mass media (at times they were somehow unique sources viewed) typically under TV headlines and talkshaw for some "incidentally-but-on-purpose" reasons. It is still valid today although often forgotten.

9. New ways to promote towards Joe public have arisen of course since, as a) youtube videos trailers b) social viral marketing throught FB and Twitter c)mobile usage  and d)mobile internet reach (which are two different things) all of these which changes deeply the way people interact with information before any move they do, whatever new TLDs...

10. Possibly having TELs /TNs benefits from TELs intrinsically simple features towards these fields , even if not totally Embedded at a mature level within TELs/TNs still.

11. Therefore, if one would like to build more awareness of TELs (pro TELs , and TNs) to Joe public, IMHO one might look at these somehow still untapped areas that have proved elsewhere their efficiency and towards which the TEL stakeholders did not turned too much so far, and focus on applications, vertical segments, or areas where these most make sense now,  years before newTLDs will be able to revolution anything (if not themselves indeed diluting everything , would therefore push Joe public to doubt because it is his money, and refocus on the core, not the frills within such abondance of TLDs of unproven value).

Not saying that this is simple of course. But saying it is worth trying to surf these trends (and not wait waves to roll TELs to the dry sand) and this undoubtedly will benefit back to any stakeholder, whatever he holds, an individual TEL or TN only, or a handful of TELs.
