No registrant of a .tel domain can do any of these things!
1, 4, and 5 above have nothing to do the "point" of .tel versus other tlds.
.tel was created as an "address page" accompanied by basic text information.
Telpages was supposed to take care of 2, 3 above after that.
"address page" or "basic profile" (.tel domain page) - found in an "address book" or "basic profile directory" (.tel domain directory)
STILL hasn't happened, this simple concept people believed Telnic could and would deliver.
The masses are used to an "address page" or "basic profile" with more enhanced features, i.e. pics, video, etc., so Telnames was born, and wisely so. No all they need is a Telnames directory and they have a chance.
Visit the following link if you are misinformed about what .tel is:
http://archive.icann.org/en/tlds/stld-apps-19mar04/tel-telnic.htmPay close attention to the following paragraph(s):
2.4.3.1. Rich content
Communications is moving from a one-dimensional simple voice oriented world,
into a multi-dimensional and rich IP based communications environment that
provides scope for exciting new content. However, end users need this content
to be easily accessed through a
DNS text based naming and navigation structure,
which is presently unavailable.
2.4.3.2. Universal communication identifier
End users are finding it increasingly difficult to remember and manage their
own and other people's communication identifiers, including:
* home telephone numbers
* mobile telephone numbers
* home fax numbers
* personal email addresses
* pager numbers
* work telephone numbers
* work telephone extension numbers
* work email addresses
* work fax numbers
* instant messaging addresses
* and other contact information
Hence, there is a need for a
universal text based communication identifier
under which the end user can store all their contact information.
