.TEL has now lost 200,000+ registrations  from its "not that impressive" peak of 333,891 on 1 March 2011 to its "no-one seems to care any more" figure of 133,832 today 31 October 2014.

I can't believe they still have over 100,000 domains registered. Lots of gullible people out there still.

Sooner or later Google will see the remaining websites (lol!) as spam and probably de-index them.

Surely Kash must realise THE REALITY OF .TEL with most of the $35,000,000 shareholder investment used up, his ex Chief Technical Officer & Strategist Henri no longer actively involved, etc, etc, it's GAME OVER and time to let another company have a go at running the .Tel Project - if anyone who is interested can be found ?

    .tel isn't dead yet:

1.) .tel has still 133,000 registered domains.
--> It'll need 2 or 3 more years before these domains have been dropped, too!

2.) The websites of Telnic.org and Telnames.com are still reachable.
--> At this very moment some people at Telnic are going still to work from time to time!

3.) .tel is working as designed: it's still possible to register a domain and publish your phone number on it (even there is no reason for anyone to do so).
--> Okay; the design of the whole product is really bad, but at least it's still working!

It is indeed looking like a doomed project, and all sane thinking will tell it's all a matter of time before they call it a day and shut down the whole project.

Of the 133,000 domains left I reckon over 100,000 are domain investors bleeding till the last drop and only 33,000 genuine users ( can't really call a domain with 33k users a domain )

But just when you prepare to throw the towel you may get crazy things happening through the phenomenon of what I call "Insane money",,, that is when you get these mega giant companies ( the googles and facebooks ) throwing 100's of millions at something they can snap for free and operate it at mega millions loss for a reason nobody can understand ( aside from the taxman of course)

But that's all what Telnic can hope for at the moment to turn things around !

Good luck and stay informed,,, you just never know !!!

    @telmasters

Indeed, there is a small chance that .tel could be rescued.

But I would have preferred it if the success would result from a mature product.

Possibly the biggest disaster in internet history and certainly the biggest failure in the domain industry's history.

That depends on your perception! It's a mistake to believe that every TLD will become a big success.

Think about other older TLDs like .aero (18,462 domains), .travel (18,409 domains) or .coop (7,823 domains).

.tel can survive on a much lower level for centuries (if enough people push more money into this TLD).

Of course there is a chance:
If .tel would get developed properly, people would start registering .tel domains.
The biggest obstacle .tel has is its supporting registry that fights against common sense since many, many years!

I'm convinced that most people with a .tel domain are waiting that the business from Telnic gets transferred to another company one day.
Until then .tel domains can't be used accordingly!

That's the reason why it's so important that Telnic gives up as soon as possible. With the progress of time the danger is growing that no successor can be found.

    .tels cannot have great content
Therefore .tels can not be successful websites
