Some criteria to consider:

- Name as short as possible; the shorter the better
- Composed out of maximum 2 words, better only 1 word
- No typos
- No hyphen(s)
- Fail-safe in spelling
- Easy to pronounce and clear to understand
- Memorizable
- Highest possible reference to the topic of the future content
- Nouns are better than verbs
- Mostly singular nouns are better than plural nouns
- American English is better than British English (except you offer products in the UK)
- Best option is when the American and British spelling is identical
- Internationalized Domain Names (IDN) are second quality
- The more alternative TLDs are registered with the keyword, the better
- The more websites under alternative TLDs with the keyword are developed, the better (no parking pages)
- No registration of domain names with already registered trademarks & brands
- Use the traffic estimator of the Google Keyword Tool to find valuable keywords (high numbers of search requests, clicks and CPC)
- Great adaptable names are GEOs (cities and countries), industries, products, services, professions, hobbies and widely used names (especially first & last names)
