Telnic/Telnames - when is Worldwide Marketing for .Tel going to start ?

If you look at http://www.hosterstats.com/DomainNameCounts2012.php you will see there were 313,359 .tels registered on 1 January 2012.

If you look at http://www.dottel.net you will see there are 270,539 .tels registered today.

    That's a drop of 42,820 in just 6 months !

The best time for starting with it would be this:

Only 3 more weeks until the biggest event this year!

It may be time to look in the mirror gents. We simply may have mad a bad decision, or in my case 67 bad decisions. Live and learn I guess. Still would like to punch someone in the nose. Not too hard but enough to hurt.

I noticed today from http://www.dottel.net thet Telnames registrations (the TN figure) have reached 700.

Not earth-shattering, but not bad either considering they've just attended two or three UK business exhibitions.

I actually think http://www.Telnames.com are onto something with their incredibly simple, easy-to-update text/image/video template as shown by http://YourBusiness.tel - businessmen and women want to focus on their businesses not web site design and creation !

There are probably tens, maybe hundreds, of millions of potential customers worldwide for this product - how many small businesses and 1-man traders exist in the world ?

But I stress the world WORLDWIDE - Telnames needs to begin worldwide marketing NOW !

Mike, I really wonder how much efforts you give to promotion of the company which does not give you anything in return. Have you seen http://about.me ? They make quite a bunch of money, by offering the same as TEL in the end, API, images, templates, way more professional. And even free business cards. But implementation leaves to them much more profit potential.

Two comments re this, regardless of how good technically the About.me product may be:

    1. You never "own" the About.me username - in the same way that you do with a .tel domain (provided you pay the annual renewal fee of course). If Telnic went bust there is a surety logged with ICANN that would fund the operation of the extension whilst a new registry owner was sought. If About.me went bust you would probably lose all the online identity you had built up.

    2. AFAIK you cannot sell About.me usernames - you can of course sell your .tel domain names (though not for a huge amount currently, IMO that will change for the better).

Absolutely, you cannot own it. But I cannot own Yahoo username too, and I have it since somewhere 1998. Sometimes large companies fail and you loose the website, like Geocities failed in the past.

However, ABOUT.ME is free. If the TEL domain fails, you have paid and lost, like I have lost thousands of visitors, during the last about 30 days, when TEL was failing and failing on numerous of my own domains.

The main attraction of .tel in comparison is the future potential, e. g.:

    • Name dialing
    • Payment options with your domain
    • OAuth with your domain
    • Social networking between domains

There is no other option on the web available which offers these things.

That is future potential, but not VALUABLE future potential. When we speak about "potential" we shall mention something really valuable.

My wife dials me by name anyway, she clicks on my name on the phone, and she dials me.

So, tell me, how will TEL domain help my wife to dial me by name?

In the future with a .tel domain you can't ONLY dial your wife, but also all your mistresses without placing their phone numbers into your address book (where your wife can see their numbers if she is borrowing your cell phone).

I guess that is REAL value!

I asked for it and I got it. Nevertheless, humor is humor, you said what you think, but where is the real value?

Do you actually think there is some real value in dialing by name?

How is gonna that look like? Tell me, I want to know. You said, I want to know. Tell here in public place.

Will you call Ben.Tel? Or what? How can be that to dial by name? Isn't it already implemented on cell phones, to enter the number under the name and to dial by name?

So what do you exactly mean?

I see a lot of advantages:

1.) I don't need to store phone numbers into my cell phone anymore, because I will just connect with my contacts via Telfriends.

2.) I just need to remember the .tel domain name of a new contact instead of a numeric phone number. A phone number I can easily forget, but I still can remember the .tel domain.

3.) If one of my contacts changes his cell phone or address, I immediately have his updated contact data (and he doesn't need to tell me).

4.) If an old school friend of mine lost contact with me, I can contact him easily if he owns a .tel domain.

5.) If my old school friend hates me, he can prevent me from calling him by denying access to his private contact data (but he is still reachable for others).

6.) I can dial a number of any contacts (even of people I've never met) without using my fingers (e. g. with SIRI or with smartglasses).

    ... and so on!

Of course the requirement for this is my contacts own a .tel domain.

Since we are just standing at the beginning, perhaps in a few years more people will understand the DNS concept of .tel, too.
    Because it isn't that complicated!

BTW the ultimate solution would be this:

    Name dialing - final solution

    I understand your statement.

On the other hand can you tell me why you type Amazon.com into your browser, but when you want to call their customer support, you dial +1 - 123 - 456 712 482?

Isn't it much easier to dial Amazon on the keyboard of your cell phone?
