    Mobile in Local Search

Interesting article published yesterday in Telnic's blog by Ian Bowen-Morris entitled Mobile in Local Search: YP app v Mobile Web, Google Mobilize, and where .tel fits in

One thing that I like about Google Sites on the Apple iPhone are the 2 image options available - 250x85 px logo AND 250xAnyHeight px photo, compared to the small .tel logo area available.

If you believe "a picture says a thousand words", particularly on mobile devices, this is one area where .tel needs to present a better image (pun intended).

    Do others agree?

    agree.

on a side note - think telnic should populate & jazz up yourbusiness.tel a little. if anyone reads the blog and goes to the site to see what a sample would look like, they would be disappointed....

they may want to borrow one of telrifics styles based on yellowpages..... (sorry can't remember the name of the tel's but recollect seeing them...)

Good point, I've just tried clicking http://YourBusiness.tel - it's effectively an empty domain - with just the minimum 1 entry required on all .tels

This creates a bad impression for someone who enters the URL after reading Ian's blog post.

With a logo, and a top and bottom image ad, I don't think we need more provision for pictures. The mobile view is supposed to be quick, and cheap to download, and we know you can substitute images for ad-blocks at the side of the desktop page.

I am also glad to see Ian's comparison of a .tel with an app, in this case for Yellow pages. Why make life more complicated than it is?
