Telnic + MySpace link - Why not Facebook now?

In 2009, when .tel was being launched, Telnic linked up with MySpace to enable them to sell .tels to their (at that time) vast user base - seehttp://news.cnet.com/8301-13577_3-10203003-36.html

We all know that MySpace has now been eclipsed on a huge scale by Facebook, who have around 750 million current users.

Is there not a possibility of doing some kind of bulk deal re .tels with Facebook? Just 1% success rate with their user base would equate to a cool 7.5 million new .tel registrations.

Facebook are really pushing the telecoms side now, they have just announced video chat (see http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-14054860) and recently tried and failed to buy Skype (see http://gigaom.com/2011/05/09/why-mic...-for-8-billion).

If ever there was a time for Telnic to approach Facebook surely it is now?

One reason the myspace deal faltered is because they were probably focused on staying afloat themselves, falling income does focus the mind somewhat.

Don't buy that at all - .tel will never be a rival to Facebook or MySpace, they are completely different animals and always will be.

The idea that .tel will expand it's sphere of influence so that TelFriends can ever begin to challenge the social network dominance of Facebook is just too far-fetched - even for this forum with it's optimistic view (that includes me) about the future influence of .tel !

IMO .tel should stick to what it was designed for - a single point of contact system, accessible from all devices through it's DNS data, with enough development by Telnic so that the proxy can for many small businesses be the only web presence they will ever need.

Social peeked. I read somewhere recently that the last 500 or so social network focused start ups thru venture capital have failed. Telnic are not fixing telfriends because none of us ever used it anyway.

.tel as a telephone directory makes perfect sense. Mobile mobile mobile, with a fallback to desktop.
It's a great product in this area, just needs a little polish.
an online easy entry database, no server b.llsh.t to keep up to date. Etc.
Add the mobile interface for fast navigation, great product.

    But social is over.

Things like henris map tool. They are gems that were not even publicized. I found it buried somewhere in the telnic site map. It's like the best tools were left undeveloped, and the architecture to implement .tel via registrars just way over the top.

And they were hoping it would go viral. That was a huge failure. There was no marketing plan beyond that it seems. Nonetheless, heading into yellow pages area, digital directories, seems the only path left
