Different views in different browsers I open, for example, the site http://covarrubias.tel/ In Chrome (23.0.1271.64 portable, Italian) I see some beautiful images: https://2img.net/r/ihimg/a/img7/136/appunti01l.jpg Instead in Firefox (17.0.1 Italian, my default browser) there are no pictures: https://2img.net/r/ihimg/a/img145/3093/appunti02j.jpg This happens with all .tels with pictures. Of course Firefox works perfectly with the other, non .tel, sites. Does anyone have an explanation? [P.S. Internet Explorer 9 works perfectly, like Chrome] |
Silvano, it seems that your Firefox browser is blocking the images from appearing. Do you have an additional "Ad Blocker" installed on Firefox? Otherwise have you tried modifying the security settings on it? |
Holy mackerel! On FIrefox I have installed Adblock Plus. Deactivating Adblock the pictures reappear. So, Adblock handles the images as ads and blocks them... It's a problem for .tel sites and third part developers. A lot of people uses adblock or similars on Firefox and Chrome. |
Aled, can you investigate what image sizes trigger adbockers? Perhaps allowing us to add a slightly different image size might do the trick. http://www.kristarella.com/2011/10/images-adblock-plus/ … So assuming that Adblock Plus only blocks the standard ad sizes, the way to fix this issue in WordPress is to change your image size to something slightly different to 300×250, even if it is just by one or two pixels. yes - that's the problem with using these ad designated slots for anything non advertising... solution is to switch to use naptr (or another type of record) and only use the tad records for advertising. |
I do like the NAPTR image idea, Mark |
The issue is that in many cases these are ads, so the ad blocker is doing its job correctly to some extent. The ad blockers work on a number of different factors, from the size to the actual content and are also constantly trying to evolve. |
Also some Adblockers block images not originated from the site itself, means any image coming from external sources will be blocked. All depends on the type of Adblockers one chooses to install in the browser. I remember this topic was discussed earlier somewhere. |
It's a shame. It is not worth wasting time to add images to .tel pages using third-party services, if cannot be displayed because of the ad-blockers. Virtually all my acquaintances are using ad-blockers, the only way to surf quietly. I myself recommended or installed dozens of ad-blockers to my friends and acquaintances. Anyway thanks everyone for the replies. |
