I have just sent this to Telnic:

By collecting more and more feedback on TelTalk.org, on this way I want to forward directly to Telnic what are the reasons why .tel isn't accepted by the market until today:

    • No upload of pictures, videos and ads directly in the control panel (only with third party providers)
    • No contact forms for .tel domains available (only external with TelMailBox.com)
    • Big pictures only available at template number 8
    • Limitation of pictures per subdomain
    • No possibility to insert long and formatted text in the main body of .tel domains
    • Customers of Telnames want subdomains
    • Customers at other registrars want background pictures
    • Complete absence of marketing (beside the small blog from Telnames on Tumblr)
    • In the past advertising of .tel domains only to the domain industry, but not to end users
    • No allowance for external developers to create their own templates (in compliance with general parameters and approval by Telnic), because registrars are not interested and / or don't have the resources for such an activity

I guess from the discussions in the past we all know these deficits have to be eliminated to bring .tel on the road to success.
And therefore I'm convinced these reasonable requests will be realized one day!

    Nice summary TelTalk.

Although some of us might take issue with what parts of the list are really important, the point you are making is very valid.

I've never come across a situation in business where a supplier is so indifferent to the wishes of it's customers - most suppliers believe that if you give your customers what they want (or can be persuaded to desire) they will keep coming back for more.

Then I worked out what is going on !

Telnames (the only version of .tel that will ever be marketed from the evidence so far) do NOT consider software developers or domain investors or power users as their customers !

They consider their customers as small businesses with less than 10 employees - so software developers / domain investors / power users who keep pushing for subdomains etc. on the Telnames template are nothing but a nuisance !

That would explain why we keep getting ignored with our resource hungry (both in terms of development staff and server power) requirements !

Well I've some news for Telnic/Telnames - a lot of software developers / domain investors / power users are going away - you can't alienate your loyal followers year after year and expect to retain them !

Maybe one day you'll see the light - my guess is it will only be when .tel drifts even lower - the downward trend of total .tel registrations can clearly be seen in the post at http://www.teltalk.org/t307-public-interest-registry-hits-10-million-org-domain-registrations#1209

that's a very dangerous attitude by telnames, because 80 - 90 % of domains belong to domain investors, at least with .com .net and so on
but perhaps telnames can show us how they can succeed by turning fundamental conditions

Agreed - it may even be fatal - with the new gTLDs coming along in 2013 that are going to attract software developers time and domain investors cash !

Telnic/Telnames - please wake up to THE REALITY OF .TEL (see http://www.teltalk.org/t314-the-reality-of-tel) and take the necessary action NOW !
