Skype Status button

Hi to all,

Added new feature to TELcp to display Skype Status button right below the header on both desktop and mobile proxies.

Advantages: Displays if the Skype user is online or not. Click to call (click to call function may not work on some smartphones).

Disadvantage: Sacrifice the top image ad (in order to maintain uninterrupted Skype Status display you need to delete all top image ads).

Available to telowners and telusers through www.telcp.com.

Sample site at www.telcp.tel

Link to images www.telcp.blogspot.com

Cheers!

Regards deleting top image ad.
Perhaps a better option for us with completely built out directories, is to have the offline/online status be incorporated AS PART OF the existing top banner. Especially if the existing top banner is only being used as an interface graphic (that is, the current link is not being used)

I'm not sure how your tool works just yet, could we instead use a URL image locator for our OWN on/off status button ie our own banners incorporating/showing the On/off status?

I think a FREE online and "live" booking or ordering (via a real time chat) is one of the best tools to offer so far.
I do not think that we will be given any additional banner space.
So need a way to double use of the top banner.
It's the perfect and obvious place only

Well, TELcp uses Skype ID insert window (just to make life easier for the user) and uploads it as an Image Ad (.tia). That's why you need to sacrifice the top image ad/banner.

However, this is only a beginning of our experiments to introduce a dedicated VOIP (in place of Skype) provided that we find the right partner for development as we are not experts on VOIP based solutions. We look forward to provide subdomain to subdomain VOIP free of charge. As mentioned on another thread we just started this VOIP+TEL project. But all depends on cost/investment etc.

Cheers!

Yes, custom banners can be designed to indicate on/off status.
But we don't want to go in to that depth as ultimately we will have to host those status banners. Means costing additional $$ for telcp.com bandwidth:)

Perhaps rethink the logic as to reference where the directory owner hosts his own banners (we would host 1 for ON, and 1 for Off, your program would just grab the right one at the right time???)
.
It's powerful stuff, but much better for owners to have own banners

@boracay

Understand your logic very well.
The programing of the customized status buttons and the hosting have to be at the same place. We might consider this option in our customized solutions of TELcp. And definitely providing free of charge through our telsurnames network.

I'd like to ask "why?"
Unfortunately, I am not prepared to give up that top space. And I'm betting 99.99% we won't get another.
I appreciate your efforts. I just wanted to ask if that was an option before I went any further with a very large directory project ( I'm currently building out)

@boracay

Third party services for .tel can provide only through what is available at present.
With regards to the image ads/banners we are allowed only HTML inputs. Therefore, all processing has to be done at one place and be prepared to supply the required info instantly.
Developers would have done much more if the .tel accepts java script. But, unfortunately it doesn't.

Well, even with this available technology we can let anyone provide us with a static banner (for the background). Then we can superimpose the "Skype's ON/OFF/AWAY/DON'T DISTURB etc" Status at our server before sending out to .tel page requests.

Right now we do not want to shoulder an additional burden as we already provide TELcp services at telcp.com free of charge.

By the way, have you already checked this particular service (Skype status) at TELcp?
Without doing so it is hard for others to guess what is happening there.

Cheers!

The other best option is either Telnic allows third party customized icons (not very practical though, in terms of quick turn around of serving such icons from an external server/s) or they provide dynamic icons. Dynamic icons can be designed to display functionality similar to that of Skype's Status button.

Hi to All,

My apology to you for not explaining how to set up the the Skype's Control Panel for real time Status.

I was under the impression that whoever operates Skype was familiar with it's set up.

In order to display real time button status do as follows:

1. Got to your Skype Control Panel
2. From Skype Control Panel menu, Select Skype -> Privacy ->
3. Check (check box) "Allow my online status to be shown on the web". And Save.

So, from now onwards whenever you log in to Skype control panel and change your online statues (in Skype's Control Panel) your online status will be displayed accordingly.

Hope this helps!

If any TELcp customers having difficulties, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Cheers!
