CRAZY: Telnic is planning to destroy .tel on 13th March 2017

Are they serious?

• All published data on .tel domains since 2009 will be deleted without substitution.
  
• It will be impossible to publish subdomains, more than one page as well as a bigger amount of content on the provided default template.
  
• By lifting all restrictions for .tel, all incentives to use the special DNS concept of .tel will be eliminated.
  

In other words:

Telnic is throwing their whole original concept in the trash and making .tel only one out of thousands new domain extenisions.

I'm asking:

Do you really know what this means?
How could you even expect that .tel will survive with such an asininity?

Two opinions exist:

1. Directory builders are mad.
2. Some people are happy that they can build common websites with .tel.

Certainly, .tel will lose a lot of customers who see that the DNS concept has not future anymore.

But how many new customers can .tel attract with free web hosting?

Right, the currently 100,000 registered .tel domains are hold only by people who believe in the future success of the DNS data storage.
Telnic is destroying this hope with the changes in upcoming March. Hence, the current registrants will most likely drop their .tel domains.

Consequently, Telnic has to search for a complete new customer group.
That means: BACK TO ZERO !!

These radical changes by Telnic will be a big setback for .tel!

A few people like the announced possibility to host their own websites. Therefore it could be that Telnic indeed will have ten or twenty new customers.

But surely, these people won't compensate the number of leaving customers.

The idea behind .tel was something special.
Next year .tel will lose this uniqueness.
When it comes to .tel, nobody will be attracted to the idea of saving data in the DNS anymore.
.tel will become a very simple and ordinary domain like any other.
But .tel doesn't have an extraordinary term behind the dot like .online has for instance.
Instead I would compare the term .tel with the quality of the ending .onl.
.onl currently has only about 5,000 registered domains.
That is where .tel is heading now.

Maybe you are right, but please don't forget one thing:

All people who register .tel domains without a current plan of developing it, will get an extremely clean and good looking template to publish in the easiest and fastest imaginable way.

In addition, everyone could use an online business card that will be provided by .tel automatically.

This is a potential that could convince .tel buyers to publish their domains and provide a new way of using a domain in general.

.tel could become a domain that won't be only used for businesses or traditional websites, but finally for a new way of finding contact data (for the purpose of speeding up communication).

No need for the Telnames template!

Not at all!

What I wrote are facts:

1. The Telnames template is 100 times more beautiful than the Telnic template.
   
2. The Telnames template has very nice features that the Telnic template doesn't have (PayPal shop, coupons,  image library and so forth)
   
3. All registered .tel domains will get this template in March.

I rather fear that all serious webmasters will replace their .tel domain with a different TLD.
They have enough choices nowadays.

Some of the current registrants will keep their .tel domains for habitual reasons.

This trick could work.
It has worked for currently 100,000 .tel domains until now, too.

.tel has a great future:

A group of 5 or 10 hard-boiled .tel fans will keep buying up all dropping .tel domains and will resell them to each other or will give them as a gift to their family members.

Yes, they will get it. And soon after that they will drop 90-95% of their TELs.
