Looks like Telnames will be Chicago, USA for the big conference this week.

"Rubbing elbows" with some other big names is a good thing !

    http://www.biakelsey.com/SMBDigital/companies.asp

    Wishing them well.

Among many others, those will be Facebook, Google, Groupon, Yelp and RingRevenue.
The last offers a service which is extremely valuable for .tel owners.

Quite a lineup of attendees, yes ?

I guess if you can't be successful, maybe sitting with those who are will change the .tel and TelPages line of thinking towards success ... maybe.

    You're right.
Such event affords many possibilities like conversations for potential partnerships, ideas for new business models, discovery of new trends, input for effective ways of marketing / development and reconsideration of the own business strategy.

That's very good news - hopefully the start of the long awaited worldwide marketing !

But note the attendee is Telnames Ltd, not Telnic Ltd, so this just confirms my feeling that the old Telnic subdomain-style .tel format is on its way out - at least as far as letting the world know it exists.

Given also that the recent hirings have all been for Telnames Ltd it does look like it's going to be very hard to sell a .tel for anything other than peanuts unless it's presented for sale in the Telnames format as shown by http://YourBusiness.tel

Just stating what is becoming increasingly obvious !

Unfortunately not, because Telnames is only an attendee, but not one of the speakers.

Yes, the focus is completely on Telnames. But that makes sense, because only Telnames has a good looking design for websites. You can't sell the prehistoric design from Telnic to serious customers.

YES I agree - I've already signed up for RingRevenue following their launch in the UK.

They only have 6 advertisers at the moment in the UK but this will increase no doubt shortly and I will then apply to a relevant one to run pay-per-call from a .tel domain.

Here's the link for the UK if you want to sign up as well - http://cj-uk.ringrevenue.com/login

    http://MikeSeaton.tel

PS. 7 Day EPC (Average earnings per 100 calls across all publishers in the last 7 days) is given by CJ as £385.03, £106.65, £367.91, £545.33 for the 4 advertisers with stats (the other 2 of the 6 are new advertisers).

Wrong, that doesn't make sense. It would make sense to offer this design to all customers of .tel!

Sense for us - it's something I (and many others) have long asked for - but Telnames realise if they did this there is a pricing problem that looms large !

Most of us pay around $10.00 to register/renew a Telnic registrar .tel domain, but Telnames pitch their standard register/renew price at £14.95 which according to http://www.XE.com equates to $24.27.

How would Telnames bridge that huge gap without losing their customers to other registrars ?

Unless of course they took a "wholesale" view and made just a few dollars on a larger number of domains by allowing Telnic registrars to sell the Telnames style domains.

But they could have done that in the first place - by making the Telnames template available to all Telnic registrars regardless.

It's also complicated by the fact that there is zero promotion for Telnic .tels and at least some (which looks set to increase) for Telnames .tels.

Plus of course some newbies are registering .tels at their favourite registrar and then finding it doesn't have the Telnames look of the promo domain http://Ben.tel !

Bit of a mess that Telnic/Telnames have inflicted upon themselves !

Telnames Attending BIA/Kelsey Conference In Chicago, USA Empty It’s All About Apps, Nets and WorkFlow

SMB Digital Marketing: DemandForce’s Barry — It’s All About Apps, Nets and WorkFlow

By Peter Krasilovsky on 17th September 2012

DemandForce’s CMO Patrick Barry suggested during his keynote address at SMB Digital Marketing in Chicago today that Intuit’s $434 Million acquisition of his company last year might be meant “to connect every small business to any consumer via a single click. That’s the vision of digital marketing,” he said.

Currently, there is a “blurry” world of SMB services. You’ve got applications, which are basically “software tools that drive efficiencies,” noted Barry. They are the “last mile” that must grab consumers attention spans, and there are thousands of workflow applications being used by SMBs, he said. Intuit services such as Quicken have six million customers. Others involve workflow data: schedule, availability of inventory, work status, revenue, transactions, history and quality.

You’ve also got networks, which drive services around the notion of community. Apps and network aend up being the key parameters. People talk a lot about cloud computing, but “that’s just a method of distribution,” said Barry. Services need to engage networks. You can no longer base your marketing on simply having “a nice clean Yellow Pages ad.”
