Can a TEL replace my phone number? Empty Can a TEL replace my phone number?

What would happen if I tell my contacts that my phone number isn't +44 207 1231230? Please call me with mybusiness.tel!

    This would happen:

I can't be reached with a landline phone.

For a mobile phone I have to instruct my contacts to type my TEL into the address bar of the internet browser.
This will work only if my contact is online (mobile or Wi-Fi) what is normal with a modern phone.

    Two requirements:
Mobile phones should replace the use of landline phones. This is unlikely, because it's not common in offices.
Joe Public must be instructed to use the internet browser for dialing TEL phone numbers. This would require huge marketing, because Joe Public doesn't know about TEL.

How the future will look like?

Very True - at least in the UK - the home of Telnic/Telnames !

Unfortuantely it not only applies to Joe Public, but also to Joe Telecoms as well !

Try this test in any UK High Street (I've done this a few times).

Go into a mobile phone shop, discuss the latest handsets and contracts, check out the contractual charges, then ask if they will throw in a .tel with the deal ?

You will then get a quizzical look and a response of something like "What's a .tel then?" - this from someone who works full time in the industry !

Until this basic lack of knowledge by the public and trade of even the existence of .tel is resolved, the rest of the debate is really just fluff !
