The CMO of Telnames is desperately searching for a reason why no one uses their product.
Now he has found the culprit: it's the customer.

I can say a lot about why the referred article doesn't apply for Telnic / Telnames, but nobody at Telnic / Telnames will care.
Maybe Ian Bowen-Morris is right that customers don't know what the market demands.
But anyhow, it's the job of Telnic to provide a product accepted by the customers.
It's the failure of Telnic if this hasn't been achieved after more than 5 years.

Give Customers What They Want - Or Can Be Persuaded To Desire - And They Will keep Coming Back For More !

For ***** sake it's not Rocket Science - it works for Apple, BMW, etc - so WHY DO TELNIC/TELNAMES NOT UNDERSTAND THIS BASIC BUSINESS PHILOSOPHY ?

Even if they thought their approach was right, a quick look at total .tel registrations on 1 March 2011 and 1 June 2014 would show that their current business approach was simply not working !

If the basic strategy for a product is broken, new features desired by customers are indeed not important. First a complete redesign is required!

One thing is to ignore the advice of customers, but Telnic does everything to shut them out! That is a complete different thing and quite unbelievable!

Telnic is not only ignoring the advice from customers but also the advice of specialists. Telnic doesn't accept help and believes to know everything better than experienced internet insiders! Meanwhile Telnic accomplishes nothing.

The way of thinking by Telnic is a little bit difficult to understand, because they reject speaking to us. So here I try to explain it for them. Telnic don't want to have something to do with domain investors and hate them, because domain investors are speaking the truth by pointing out the weaknesses of .tel. Telnic would be happy if they disappear, but of course Telnic can't reveal this wish. Telnic also don't care about SEO (what's a big mistake), because they wish to become a data center for yellow pages in the far future instead (where SEO isn't important). And Telnic don't think about integrating .tel into the existing internet infrastructure, because Telnic wish to change the way how people interact over the internet. The problem now is that Telnic wants to reach critical mass with Telnames for this plan and this idea runs much worse than expected. Since no other plan exists to increase the number of customers, Telnic will just sit and wait. Meanwhile Telnic occasionally speaks to potential partners to convince them that Telnames is a great idea, like recently at ICANN 50. This is a very unstable strategy and nobody knows if Telnic will ever succeed, but surely they won't in the near future. This is the current state of .tel. Nobody will be able to change anything about it!

Very sad; domainers could push .tel strongly by developing their domains.

But instead of giving them the right tools, Telnic has decided to fight against them!

Why Telnames tries to compete with website providers, because competitors have much more comprehensive solutions?
Should .tel not offer services through telecommunication providers instead, because there is the long-term target?

I wrote the post below in May 2013 - nothing's really changed - except of course Telnic are getting down to the end of their $35,000,000 shareholder investment and total domain registrations have dropped significantly !

I still find it very ironic that a company that wants to change the way the world communicates (using dial/email/skype etc by name from the DNS) is unable to communicate effectively with its own customers !

IMO the biggest danger Telnic now faces is that software developers, domain investors, power users and registrars (****** off with the Telnames direct-sell operation) will simply lose interest in the .tel extension !

There are nearly 2000 opportunities coming up soon with the new gTLDs - .tel will have to compete with these for people's time and money.

And please no posts saying ".tel has its data in the DNS and so it will see off the competition" - users simply don't care about this - the only relevance is what is actually being achieved by developers using the DNS to provide cost-effective and revenue-generating new services ?

Telnic, Telnames, anyone else - please provide any concrete examples you have of the .tel "Data in the DNS" concept being successfully used today - it's already been 4 years since .tel's launch in March 2009 !

Will Telnic ever get the message the marketplace is shouting out loud and clear ?

.tel could have reached critical mass years ago if Telnic wouldn't fight against its customers!
Since no change of mind can by expected from Telnic, nothing will change for the better.

The main problem is that Telnic still believe they have developed a satisfactory product, but it doesn't fulfill the basic requirements of a website (bad SEO and design). This is critical since .tel also doesn't offer any additional value than other websites instead either.
