Template from Telnames for customers from Telnic Empty Template from Telnames for customers from Telnic

Post by Tel 2012-09-10, 9:32 am

When comparing the template from Telnames with the templates from Telnic the following questions are coming into mind automatically:
o Why anybody should register a .tel at Telnic since the template from Telnames is so much better?
o How difficult is it to provide the customers from Telnic another template similar to the one from Telnames? The software code already exists!
o Why it isn't Telnic's first priority to provide the same amazing product which is provided only to U.K. customers?

Because you got 3 new templates? of which most of the cost was spent on paying the designer who won? jk didn't he get a holiday or something or was that the competition before? tho if I remember right a hunt I think was a holiday and some cash and then the 3 templates was cash idk.
    .
Point is I think they only spent enough on the regular proxy to keep it going but not make it superb as I think the reason for that is lethargy on the part of registrars who should be funding their own templates and proxy based on their customers requests, and if everything was done for them with a nice template with telnames features why do that? we'd have no choice really.. in the long run aka no specialist proxies for niche market customers which is the whole reason why registrars are allowed to develop their own to meet their customers needs.
    ..
For reference I would call them the public and private proxies as public is open to every registrar by default and the private is custom focused under the telnames brand, but as we know telnic and telnames are the same company..

A complete mystery! Nobody outside Telnic will ever understand this!

It is not even understandable why they created another company named Telnames instead of just delivering this template (from Telnames) to all registrars! Why we need 2 companies for one top-level-domain?

Perhaps Telnic thought they need a fresh start after their targets couldn't be accomplished.
It's a pity they canceled all communication, because otherwise we could have told them this isn’t a wise idea!

That could be an explanation. Maybe Telnic don't want to develop the templates anymore; instead they want the registrars to do this work.
Now Telnames need only a few million registrations and registrars will become interested in providing something similar.

The only benefit of creating Telnames Ltd. that I can identify is that Telnic Ltd. (ie. the registry side) could be sold off and there would still be jobs and revenue from .tel via the £14.95 a time Telnames .tels.

But with less than 1500 sold to-date (see TN figure on http://www.dottel.net) and many at £5 or £9.95 rather than £14.95, the revenue stream is not going to support much in the way of operational costs !

Of course the solution is to market .tel worldwide (using the balance of the $35,000,000 raised by Telnic) but for some reason Telnic/Telnames seem to have an ongoing aversion to this !

Suppose we will see such a strong growth for Telnames, what confusion will be created if every registrar provides different templates? How a customer can find the registrar which fits the needs?

Strange strategy for a business, but that would explain something.

If we have a big market for .tel, it would be the same situation like for other domain extensions. There it's not a real problem.
The problem is more the target achievement of it.

    No it wouldn't !

When you register any other domain extension you know you can undertake any software development you wish without any restriction by the registrar.

When you buy a .tel you are locked-in (unless you transfer of course) to either a Telnic subdomain style template (eg. http://Domains123.tel) or the Telnames single-page template (eg. http://YourBusiness.tel)

What's worse for newbies is they are not even made aware of the choice, so they may see the promo template http://Ben.tel and assume they can register a .tel at their favourite registrar and they will get it - which of course they won't !

Talk about snatching defeat from the jaws of (possible) victory !

What were Telnic thinking when they decided not to make the new Telnames template (containing many features requested by loyal forum members) available to all .tel owners ?
