    About dropped or expired domains

    Hello
Could someone please clarify, and tell me, in which cases of dropping domains, it does not cost the owner?:

Deleting domains: No costs for the holder
Dropping domains, with automatic renewal: costs?
Dropping domains with non-automatic renewal: no costs?
What is the difference, between expired and dropped domains?
Is it better to delete a domain, if I know, I don't want sell, or renew?

In which cases must I pay?

I guess, it would be better, not to have autorenewal, because in case of not paying, it might cost nevertheless?
I guess, that if you don't pay, and just not renew, the domain would quasi drop? So, is autorenewal, in that sense a financial risk, if not able to pay for renewal?

I would be glad, for your comments. Thanks.

As I know, domain's drop costs nothing for domain owner.

Expired domain means that this domain was dropped by registrar (name.com, Dynadot, etc.) because domain owner did not paid in due time for that domain's renewal.

If you are not sure which domains you will renew and which not, then better just now switch off the the "automatic renewal" at your account (at your panel at name.com, Dynadot, etc.). After that renew manually all those domains you want to keep. Those, which you don't want to keep, you can drop at any moment from your account - or can simply wait till they will expire.

Thank you, so much, maximka, for your helpful, detailed and thorough comment.
How can I "drop at any moment from my account"?

I used that "drop function" only at Godaddy-com. How to find it at the panel of your registrar I do not know, because panels of different registrars are different. I think, that it is better to ask "support" of your registrar.
